Gabriel's story is the perfect example of what wealth, power and trauma combined together can do to a person, physically and mentally.

You can already tell that Gabriel changed when he charged Colt for the peacock miraculous just to have fame, at that point he already had Emilie, a son on the way and maybe a good amount of money, but he wanted more.

I actually headcanon that when Gabriel was young possibly even younger than Adrien an incident occurred where he lost his entire
Family. With his young age, lack of support system and probably lack of money, he didn't have the tools and was never able to heal and move on and thus never learned to process grief.
This of course manifested further as an adult where he doesn't know what to do with himself when he's grieving, he never learnt how to cope with trauma and survivor’s guilt.
It's just a little something that I think adds more dimension to his character.

I honestly think that if Gabriel just let Emilie’s death go then none of that would’ve happened but I do get it that it’s not easy to let someone go but he could’ve tried I do feel bad for him though don’t get me wrong I still hate his guts he still is a horrible person but his story is kinda sad really sad and I feel bad that he went down that path it’s horrible honestly Also great video to❤
Also I want to add how much show want to point out similarity between Marinette and Young Gabriel and I think thats the reason why Gabriel hated Marinette too..
For Example : We all know Gabriel’s famous speech with Marinette.. While Marinette talks about fashion being a way to make people happy and make their dreams come true, Gabriel simply mocks her and says that fashion is just an illusion he created to control people
But when in Collusion Episode Andre says to Gabriel : “Look at yourself Gabe..You used to make unique clothes to make people’s dream become reality you even made my first suit so Audrey can finally notice me”
Also Gabriel also made Harry Clown’s childhood dream costume when they were young
So thats why I think the reason why Gabriel hated Marinette that much because he saw his youth on her
The show is clearly trying to draw a huge parallel between Gabriel and Marinette and not just that their whole love backstory is same too…
I believe that Emilie and Amelie's parents weren't actually royal figures, I think it's just a metaphore which implies their parents were very influential and wealthy. Same with Colt Fathom, he was described as the lord of war in Representation but in reality he was just a businessman. Same with Placide I.T. who had way fancier title in the 24th episode. The only exception is Gabriel whose occupation seems to match the description well enough. In Multiplication, the info about Felix on in-show analogue of Wikipedia never mentioned him being a prince either. If they were royalty, then Mayor Andre Bourgeois is better at being the >president< than Amelie and Felix being the queen and prince of the in-show Great Britain

@@adrixnette I personally couldn't find the tweet in question, but I've received a screenshot of it. By the looks of it, it's certainly a dialogue between Gabriel and Emilie. Either way, since I didn't have the tweet itself, I typed it myself into DeepL. Emilie lists various famous French fashion designers, and Gabriel replies with "I would prefer to be a not too exposed member of the English royal family..." Now considering Emilie renounced her title and heritage, it makes this conversation rather a lovingly play than a serious question implying that Emilie could use her power to place Gabriel on the same level as other famous designers (he would still require Audrey and Andre for that). All this means that this tweet should not be taken literally. Thomas likes to reply cryptically to people.
The show itself leaves some hints and references to Amelie's (and by extension Emilie's) real titles
In Multiplication, Felix is described to be the son of Colt Fathom, and ARISTOCRAT Lady Amelie Graham de Vanily. Then Ladybug proceeds to read out all his regalia (a triple Kung Fu and horse riding medalist, chess progidy, England's youngest graduate, lives in London with his mother). Now that certainly doesn't sound like a description of a member of the royal family, rather than an exceptionally intelligent and skillful teenager, and additionally an aristocrat.
If we re-watch all Gabriel's interactions with Amelie (Seasons 3-5) we cannot find anything that could hint at Amelie being a royal figure. They definifely treat eachother as equals, an aristocrat and a famous fashion designer, even the twin rings that seem very important to Amelie, that belong to the family of Graham de Vanily, are plain and simple..
Finally, Amelie and Felix have a way greater mobility and schedule flexibility than any other figure with royal duties would, they can go to Paris anytime they want with absolutely no supervision

In on the topic, I was rewatching season 5 for the kazillionth time, and it reallyyy made me despise Gabriel even more knowing that he DID in fact come from a mediocre background and yet still had the audacity to step all over people later on. The Greatest Showman (love that film cjxk) example that you used was a perfect way to put it!

11:59, its worse than that, its not that he used them for evil, its the fact that he wore 16 miraculous at the same time, Wang fu in Kwamibuster said it can make you lose your mind
Well yeah ofc! But he was already losing his mind before that because he was using the butterfly miraculous for evil. (which was the time I was referencing in the video) This video is meant to center around the more non obvious things that led to Gabriel’s insanity. I think using al the Miraculous is a really well known aspect, which is why it wasn’t mentioned!
The fact that I can tell which episode that laugh from the beginning is from, should raise concerns for my mental health

Astruc tried too hard to turn him into Ikari Gendo 2.0. It was not interesting in the slightest. Early Gabriel awoke more interest from me. I did like the way he described fashion though, as a product that gives you power. People underestimate art's power.
Besides, "Devil Wears Prada" increased my respect for fashion.
