Love it, you guys did a wonderful job! my wife has a large family and they all gather at our place for holiday meals. I've been wanting to turn our barn into one big kitchen and dinning area for awhile now and thanks to your video, my wife gave me the green light to start!
You know what I'm sitting here watching this video and I'm like OMG great idea. This is also good for family gatherings, not having to clean up after everyone. This is an smart idea and great job.
It doesn't matter if you guys were doing your remodel on a budget or not. The kitchen, the design and choices you put into that huge kitchen is what you want and it's what you got. It looks great and as long as it works for what you built if for, than it was worth everything! Great video, thanks for sharing! Love time lapsed reno videos. :)
Awesome remodel! I'd be stocking those extra fridges with sodas and beer in no time. With those huge pots for canning/jarring, no wonder 2 stoves are needed. I'd kill to have that kind of real estate for food prep. Now all that's needed is a TV and some comfy couches to kick back and relax after a day of preserving :-)
I am totally jealous. What a fantastic food prep space. A place for everything, you dont have to pack away and hunt for your food prep tools. Just WOW. You could definitely rent that out to a start up caterer or someone needing a food prep space. I was sold on the amount of refrigeration.
Thanks, it was definitely built to be a space to serve many purposes and all those fridges hold quite a lot of food we store here. We probably won't be renting the space because we use it ourselves a lot, but also we live a few miles down a dirt road and relatively far from the city.
SO good to see repurposed things - so many shows bust up perfectly good cabinets and appliances. If I had a setup like this, I'd be hard-pressed to be anywhere else!! VERY nice work!!!
Thanks for watching! I agree it is really nice to reuse as much as possible such as cabinets. All the cabinets we used actually came from the Habitat for humanity Restore so they were really inexpensive and we found a set that worked great for our needs
I knew the reason for the kitchen when the first thing my eyes landed on were the jar rings. Be still my heart, I would love this for doing my canning and cooking for a crowd. Beautiful and s so functional.
I took part in an upstairs room addition once, helping a carpenter. It took three months and there was no plumbing so I have an idea how much work went into this project. You are very disciplined and extraordinarily clean! I hope you enjoy the fruits of your labor for many years.
Hi Joshua and family! I have enjoyed watching a few of your videos to get caught up. I am so glad to reconnect. I had missed hearing from your family. Oh what a lot of work you do for your family!!!! I am proud of you!
I appreciate all the effort that went into creating that kitchen space and for your hard work in posting this video. Thanks so much, I enjoyed it immensely.
Due to some comments I have been receiving, I wanted to mention a couple things. First, the purpose of this video is to show all the aspects of a basic remodel project from an objective point of view, even if some of the design decisions don't appeal to everyone. The kitchen/room is large because we will be storing a lot of food and doing a lot of food preservation, and because the kitchen at our house is small. Secondly, all the design choices we made such as the painted concrete flooring or using OSB/plywood for the walls and ceiling are decisions we made because they work the best for our needs.
Sharing is caring, there are always people that will have an opinion to counter whatever you do. You could cure cancer, world hunger and bring world peace and some mouth breather will have an objection to how or why you did it. F' em all and let God sort them out, do you and don't explain yourself.
I loved the video , to watch the place magically evolve into something completely different . I also love the fact that you chaps take these things on . That you don’t watch others make your life for you , but that you make it yourselves . The satisfaction must be colossal . That’s a great kitchen . You can really get things done in there . The fellow saying a woman wouldn’t like to work in it must not know a very wide range of women . Which brings me to those folk who say mean things . I wish people didn’t feel the need need to pour cold water over everything that doesn’t suit their taste , or that they don’t see the reason for . I to actually good that we human beings
Sorry , I hit the wrong button . To continue.......... it is good that we human beings see and do things in various different ways . Creativity is God given , and without it the world wouldn’t progress , and would also be a joyless place . Anyhow great work , thanks .
Those who would have criticism of someones work, method or type of material live in a perfect world I guess. I subscribed after reading what you wrote just to let the negative people know that perhaps they need to take a better look at themselves and the way they do things. I for one liked the way it looks and the material choice was probably the best for the situation. Great job.
I am impressed! You built something that looks like it will actually be used and comfortably too! I would love to work in this kitchen. It is big and if you have more than a couple of people working that won't be bumping into each other.
In the late 1940s and the early 1950s, this type of kitchen would have been called a canning kitchen. Large farms would have seperated large scale food preparation and canning/freezing to an old building. It would have contained freezers, shelving for storing canned and dry goods. I think it is great to see this type of kitchen come back in style.
This is great! Funny how some are hung up on the style choices when I have seen so many beautiful looking kitchens made of top dollar materials that could be featured in an architecture catalog that never seem to be used. They just order take-out! Great work and cool video. I also was a bit confused by the fish eye, but my kids set me straight. Thank you for sharing and God Bless!
I’m loving this idea for food presentation, away from the house would make a great canning area! Although I would beg for an additional dishwasher. And shelves... lots of shelves! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the feedback. I actually did end up assembling 2 additional shelves after I finished this video, but a second dishwasher could potentially be another upgrade, we would just lose some more cabinets
Oh lord don’t know what I’d rather have more, storage or a dishwasher, definitely a bunch of storage. Got to have someplace to store all the canning equipment. Have fun, love canning and I think your family will enjoy this area.
That was absolutely, freaking, awesome !! Screw all the naysayers! Love the space, love the fridge freezer capacity. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Hopefully I will find more. I have subscribed. Sincerely, Rod
Hi Rod, thanks for watching I'm glad you liked it! I haven't actually seen too many videos like this so I wanted to create this video of our remodel project.
My only thought is that you’ve got all those fridges and freezers and cabinets and 2 stoves/ovens but just one little dishwasher. Looks like a whoooooole lot of handwashing in your future! lol But hey I’m a mom with enough kids and dishes to have to run our dishwasher 1-2 times per day so that’s what I think about 😂
I would love to work in that kitchen. Having multiple refrigerators/freezers is awesome, and I like the cabinets very much. I agree with those who are saying it would be great for canning, and it would also be great for things like making candles or soap.
I have so many questions regarding this project. Why the full bathroom inside the kitchen? Why so many fridges? Pretty cool project nonetheless. So much work that needed to be done.
Hi Ricardo, thanks for watching, the full bathroom is so that we have the ability to use the new room as a guest room. Also since the room is a couple hundred feet from our house, it's nice to be able to use the bathroom without leaving. The fridges are for all our food storage such as our own animals and food from the garden. Since we are far from a city and we try to be self sufficient, it is ideal to be able to store as much food here as possible. We also have a generator in case the power goes out.
Very well done. I wish I had a huge space like this for an extra kitchen. I would start a catering business. I could do all the cooking there and not heat my house up.
A good, big working harvest kitchen. Plenty of room to set up work tables, rolling racks, and other utilitarian items. I couldn't tell: Is there a drain in the floor for cleaning? And did you make accommodations for future electrical expansion for things like a blast chiller, a coolbot-type cold room, or a bank of freezers? Any plans for a back-up generator?
Thanks for watching! A harvest kitchen is a great term for this room, as I haven't thought of what to call it. The extra storage space is used for 2 metal racks, as well as a desk and couches so the room is somewhat multipurpose. We did try to plan for expansion, such as including many electrical circuits and additional 240v power lines which are just covered for now. A floor drain would be handy but the foundation was already poured so that wasn't possible. With 5 freezers, keeping them running is important. Luckily our electric company is really good and we've never had a power outage longer than a couple hours, but I think installing a transfer switch in the breaker panel would be a good idea so we wouldn't need to have extension cords running everywhere from our generator.
That's what we are planning to do! Right now there are a lot of canning jars in the house and we are moving them into this new room. This summer we will have a large work space for canning and storage. Thanks for watching!
Not to my taste, but functional. I think getting such a big project done is a great accomplishment and I'm glad you guys could save money with the outdoor kitchen. Nice job, it's very pretty from the outside.
Nice job, well done. I am sure this will help your family as it continues to grow. You do need more space to can if you are limited on space and extra fridge space is a plus!
That space is just begging for an island. Would be so handy with all that extra counter space and possibly another sink area. Plus another table top space for casual eating or for someone to sit and help with the canning etc...
I agree..a center island and additional tabletop area would be awesome for canning..and perhaps a few more shelves for storing the canned goods afterwards.Overall it's a great design and I would die for a summer/canning kitchen like this. So much can be done with it.Great Job!!!
Give you a tip give the washer dryer combo to some one you don’t like. I once put a bath towel in the dryer damp came back from work 8 hours later and it was still damp never did dry any clothes. Invest in a regular. Washer and separate dryer in the big picture you’ll save hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Hi John, thanks for watching. It's interesting you mention the stackable dryer because we actually had the exact problem you mentioned for the first few months after installing it. In a previous video I made, I had converted the dryer from natural gas to propane, and I had accidentally broken the igniter. After fixing that the dryer works fine now, but the design isn't great. We just didn't have the square footage for 2 separate units
Thanks! I have seen a lot of time lapse videos and what I tried to do differently with mine was put the camera closer to the action and move it around more often to show different parts being worked on. The builders were really nice about allowing me to setup the tripod in the middle of the room and they were careful around it, but sometimes I just put a suction cup on the inside of the window to get the shots I did.
I agree for sure, its one of those "mildly infuriating" things, but I'm glad they ended up in the proper order. One other thing for me is I wish I had shown the kitchen fully set up with the furniture and things, but I did show that in a different video.
I agree with you 100%, people who live in the city probably have higher expectations for the aesthetic of a remodel, and not everyone is going to like the way it came out. We live in the woods relatively far from cities so for our expectation level this turned out great! Thanks for watching!
WOW! Another excellent job! Both the filming/editing and the building!! I love the Scandinavian minimalist look. Maybe you can give us an update on the whole homestead. I’m in an area now where I have no cell or internet so I have to catchup when I travel. Blessings...
Thanks for watching and for the comments! I do plan to do a video soon about our farm, maybe like a tour video showing what has changed, especially in the new kitchen. Also we are building a new chicken coop from scratch (video in progress) so it would be cool to show everything since I haven't done that yet since we moved here aside from time lapse videos.
Well done! Enjoyed watching your video a lot! My girlfriend wanted to do the same design in our new house, painted OSB with ribs on the joints of the sheets. Great to see someone else thinking along the same way and making it that way! I like it!
Great job, however I would recommend that you pull the carpet out the bathroom. It'll turn bad pretty quick🤣🤣🤣. I was thinking of doing an exterior food storage that could also extend the space available for larger cooking needs so its always good to see what others came up with👍
First i was wondering why they need that much electrical source (literally every 1 m probably) XD But after seeing tye fridge, yeah that's awesome.. :D
***Very Good job 👍. Next time for the cilling boards go ahead and use the groved finish/one side sheets then you dont have to rock it plus opens up for more options in finishing like staining, or painting like antique cilling white white with the groves alread in the cilling boards/sheets then run some nice color matching 👑 crown. It would pay for the crown molding by the money you save from sheet rocking taping mudding floating sanding cleaning dusting then painting. Thats alot of time and money and cleaning, that looks better and pays for free paint and free crown molding with the savings maybe even some left over if you shop right and/or do it your self. However even if you have to pay for it you still come out ahead in savings and looks. FREE ProTip my friend keep up the good work always give him the credit have a blessed night my friend.***
Thanks for watching and happy 4th of July! I appreciate the suggestions, it sounds like your ideas would make the room very cool looking! In our case though we tried to keep the price down as much as possible so we didn't invest much into making the room decorated very much, but having the osb walls and ceiling does make it easier to add decorations in the future.
Wow what a project. Great idea. Can you give any follow up to this? How well has it worked for you all? Any changes you think you would have done different?
I promise you! If I had the finished product and enough room for a pool table, a few cheap big lot couches, WiFi and television! I WOULDNT LEAVE THAT PLACE! lol
My friends family has a big detached garage and they turned it into a kitchen and living room space. Whenever family comes over or they have parties they all hang out in the garage instead of going into the actual house.
That's a great idea to use the detached garage for that, we had a pole barn that we didn't use except for storage, but using it as a kitchen is great. We've have people over sometimes in the new kitchen and we prefer it over having guests in our house.
I liked how you cleaned the job-site as you worked, how you reused a lot of old materials and how great it all looked when you finished. Yay!
Love it, you guys did a wonderful job! my wife has a large family and they all gather at our place for holiday meals. I've been wanting to turn our barn into one big kitchen and dinning area for awhile now and thanks to your video, my wife gave me the green light to start!
Thanks for watching, that's great news, glad you found my video!

Looks like the modern version of a summer kitchen the Victorians used. Great for home canning! Keeps the heat and mess out of the house. Good choice!
Awesome remodel! I'd be stocking those extra fridges with sodas and beer in no time. With those huge pots for canning/jarring, no wonder 2 stoves are needed. I think your Family is Amazing….Don’t worry about people …their just jelly…keep being you!!
Breath of fresh air from those super white modern renovations. It’s pretty cool
Thanks! Our goal was to focus more on the function of the room and keep the design relatively simple.
Hi Joshua and family! I have enjoyed watching a few of your videos to get caught up. I am so glad to reconnect. I had missed hearing from your family. Oh what a lot of work you do for your family!!!! I am proud of you!

Pretty awesome, great music! No toilet thou lol
Thanks for watching I'm glad you liked the music! As far as the toilet, we actually have a composting toilet in the bathroom.

Dude, this is RUclips, they would criticize Da Vinci and Shakespeare. To hell with what these people think, you did a great job.
Who cares what they say to you... it looks awesome keep doing it
Sigh. This comment section. People.. Ffs.
Looks like you did a good job with what you had to suite your needs. Compliments.

I was waiting on a long kitchen island to be built for more storage and work room! It looks great! Good job!
watched all 18 minutes. very satisfying
Excellent👏👏👍👍
FANTASTIC KITCHEN, SUPERB JOB.

The last time I am here, there ain't so much comments and likes, congrats to you :) and what a nice and big kitchen!
This looks like what I want to do on my farm. Thanks for some ideas!
I only got it when I saw all those fridges. What I would do to have something like this in my backyard!!! Great for parties too!!!
Nice work guys!
Sacré boulot, bravo. Bonjour de France.
A lot of hard work and a lot of time you guys put in here. Great job!!!

Love the space, love the fridge freezer capacity.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Hopefully I will find more. I have subscribed.

Hi Rod, thanks for watching I'm glad you liked it! I haven't actually seen too many videos like this so I wanted to create this video of our remodel project.
Kitchen, bathroom, washer/dryer, all you need is a bed and you'd have one hell of a guest house or airbnb!
I love these kind of videos. They perfectly fit my sense of pace. THANX!!
My only thought is that you’ve got all those fridges and freezers and cabinets and 2 stoves/ovens but just one little dishwasher. Looks like a whoooooole lot of handwashing in your future! lol But hey I’m a mom with enough kids and dishes to have to run our dishwasher 1-2 times per day so that’s what I think about 😂
It looks great!!1 If that is what you wanted then screw the haters!!!! I love it and wish I had a huge kitchen!!!!
Great transformation!
Wow, That was one hell of a Transformation. You about put as much effort into this as building a new house. Great Job!
I would say Joshua has a new man cave. Very well done video.
I really don't like the style but never then less I think you still did a pretty good job on remodeling it. Thanks for sharing :)
I would love to work in that kitchen. Having multiple refrigerators/freezers is awesome, and I like the cabinets very much. I agree with those who are saying it would be great for canning, and it would also be great for things like making candles or soap.
Good job, Joshua!!!👍
Great conversion. Love the floor. Summer canning kitchen! Teach classes as well.
Thanks for watching! Canning is exactly the plan for this building, as well as classes or having friends over, we designed it to be multi-purpose
looks fantastic, very practical
I have so many questions regarding this project. Why the full bathroom inside the kitchen? Why so many fridges? Pretty cool project nonetheless. So much work that needed to be done.
Hi Ricardo, thanks for watching, the full bathroom is so that we have the ability to use the new room as a guest room. dude this is awesome, I love it when they powerwash the floor its sick!
Very well done. I wish I had a huge space like this for an extra kitchen. I would start a catering business. I could do all the cooking there and not heat my house up.
Just take over another room in your home. Dining room, perhaps??
A very pleasant and easy space to work in for the intended us of the kitchen.
Awesome video, way better now
Very nicely done time lapse enjoyed it very much
Great out of the home canning. Keep the canning mess out there. Good use of space!
That's what we are planning to do! Right now there are a lot of canning jars in the house and we are moving them into this new room. This summer we will have a large work space for canning and storage. Thanks for watching!
Looks good, I wouldn't change a thing.
That was fun, good job!!!
Functional Simplicity, job well done.
Excelente trabajo, me encantó los felisito muy bonito les quedó .❤😍
That's a man's kitchen. Huge!
More videos please. My fav winter clean up!
this was one heck of a project... kudos to you and your crew for a job well done!
Thanks! This was quite a large project but it is great that it is finally done and I can share the time lapse video
Great kitchen for canning, storage and butchering. I like the idea of a bathroom, too, so the butcher or cook can clean himself.
Wow all that space.. very nice job.. looks wonderful
Awesome work, I should be uploading my guest house footage soon.
That space is just begging for an island. Would be so handy with all that extra counter space and possibly another sink area. Plus another table top space for casual eating or for someone to sit and help with the canning etc...

Thanks! Very good job 👏
Very nice .Fells good to do some work for yourself .
I love it 😍😍

Nice job bud.👍
Who else didn't like when they first put in the fridges in any order, But later organised them properly. Oh yeah that how you line up some fridges.
I agree for sure, its one of those "mildly infuriating" things, but I'm glad they ended up in the proper order. One other thing for me is I wish I had shown the kitchen fully set up with the furniture and things, but I did show that in a different video.
I love ur vids they inspire me a lot
Bunch of city people in the comments I see. Never stepped foot on green acres in your life obviously. This reno is actually great.

Thanks for watching, glad it gave you some ideas. On the bathroom we actually used a roll of vinyl for the floor, it does look like carpet
OMG :3
i wish i were wealthy enough to own that much fridge and a kitchen that big :3
First i was wondering why they need that much electrical source (literally every 1 m probably) XD
But after seeing tye fridge, yeah that's awesome.. :D
Great video.
Always very good start but you
have to finish all the way or dont do it. like just painting the wood in side?
Thanks for watching and happy 4th of July! I appreciate the suggestions, it sounds like your ideas would make the room very cool looking! In our case though we tried to keep the price down as much as possible so we didn't invest much into making the room decorated very much, but having the osb walls and ceiling does make it easier to add decorations in the future.
Wow what a project. Great idea. Can you give any follow up to this? How well has it worked for you all? Any changes you think you would have done different?
Awsome compilation!!
Well done video.
This is one of the best construction timelapse I've seen on yt! Great to watch, looks like a very good space with loads of potential!
Excellent job well done
Well done
Bravo, well done. RESPECT 💓
столько холодильников на одной кухне я еще никогда не видел ))
I promise you! If I had the finished product and enough room for a pool table, a few cheap big lot couches, WiFi and television! I WOULDNT LEAVE THAT PLACE! lol
love it, thanks
Nice, great job !
