I keep watching over and over again. Especially the skywalker ones. You gave me a lots of inspiration! I'm in an autopilot project right now, for rc fixed wing, as final exam at university. Until now i had experience only with glow engine models, flying line of sight. Now i build a wooden model from scratch, with electric drive. Your instructions gave me a great source of help to understand the electric rc plane and fpv systems.

I don't have any experience with EzUHF but i'm sure it will work fine. For me Dragonlink gear appears to be a better UHF and has customer support that is second to none.

+Mark Burgess Cheer Mark :) Yeah I had to climb the stairs with all of my gear! A big backpack, and my SW packed away in its box... only a 10-15min hike, but enough to make me sweat with all that gear in the sun haha. Damage was minimal, a bit of glue and 10mins of my time repaired it all :)

Cracking video again Adam, those mountains are wonderful. Landing was a bit dodgy, but ultimately looked quite soft in that long grass. Did you hit something solid for the pitot tube to eject ?
+CurryKitten Thanks Wayne :) It all looks fairly soft but there are some more solid twigs at the bottom of those bushes and i think it must have caught one. All damage was repaired with a bit of glue and 10min work. Really struggling to find a location thats easy to land in the mountains, most of it is covered in this bushey stuff :-/ I am lucky to have such nice scenery so close to home though.

I'm probably not the best person to ask this question as I have only used Dragonlink. I can tell you my reasons behind using DL over EZUHF are:
1: Customer support is second to none. Mike will quickly help out and fix any issue you ever have.
2: Lifetime warranty on all DL gear
3: From research I did it appears to work better and be more reliable at long range.

Excellent video, allways approach to mountains with 45º angle, here you did a 90º approach without enouth altitude, so next time you shoul now your takeoff altitude and approach to landing a little higher. Did you try to land on fpv?

Even though quadcopters are the most popular and most dangeorus with people who don't take the hobby serikously and hitting people, fixed wing feels more relaxing when flying for me.

subbed, i love to fly long range but with dji can only get 3 km, someday i should build rc plane like this but we are here restricted for under 150m altitude, from your fpv video i think 150m high will limit the range to 10 km only, because we need to go higher to get better signal.
Yeah shame about the restrictions, but you can go quite far at that altitude on 1.2ghz video link with the right conditions and antennas :)

nice flight Adam!! since my skywalker is grounded because of a broken live camera i'm making myself a HD wingpod like you did, It gives just that bit of extra to the flight. can't wait to take the skywalker for a flight, upgraded the rc line with a Frsky L9r so I'm up for some extra distance.

+Rogier Houtkooper Always fun to get out and fly with a few upgrades :D the wing cam definitely adds to the entertainment of watching the flight back, and nice to see the plane in the video rather than just ground and sky.
Believe it or not i'm using a dirt cheap Turnigy for the pan, it was recommended to me by someone on the forum and looked good in his vids so i went with it: www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=27725

+Adam G does FPV I'm using a 1 turn sail winch servo for panning and (believe it or not) the same cheeky metal gear servo you use for my tilt.
Did you mount the wingtip camera like "glasdogangle" did!? By glueing a locknut in the wing!? I'm scared I would lose the whole mount mid flight...
Was your mount still on the wing after your "landing"? And did you have some further damage!?
I actually hot glued a DJI GPS tower to the Runcam braket, and hot glued the other end to a plastic membership card :P I then glued velcro on the card, and glued velcro on the wing. It holds fine and when landing it can get knocked off without causing damage (like it did in this flight). Can get a pic later if it helps?

Na you probably don't need any ply at all, just the EPO canopy cut/shaped to your requirements should be fine

What is the advantage of the Skywalker over the seemingly sleeker fuselage of the Sky Surfer or variants? I realize the wing is higher relative to the payload, but that wouldn't seem to offset the increased drag.
Do you need that much more room for all the long-range gear?
I can't really compare the two as I have no experience with the Sky Surfer. The Skywalker is a great plane with a solid reputation. Long range planes tend to need more room as you will want an AP and the main thing is bigger batteries so you can fly longer.
Hi Adam, I'm just about to maiden my plane with similar setup, thanks to your detailed description :) I have one question, I couldn't find the answer for days, so maybe it's easier to just ask :)
So about the cyclops tornado RTH function. People write in forums, that it only controls throttle in AP mode, not in PA or RTH. I found out, that it does control speed in RTH, as the developer said "put the stick between 50-60%". But i don't find any confirmation for this. Do I have to set up the failsafe throttle position to 55%, to let the tornado control the throttle during a link-loss rth? Or, how did you solve this issue? :) Thank you!
Hey, glad you found my vid/description useful. Yes the Tornado does control the throttle in PA and RTH modes, but if the throttle is set to zero, it won't control the throttle for some reason. You'll notice when you're using PA or RTH that although it controls the throttle, you can also move the throttle stick to adjust the throttle if you'd like more or less. When it comes to setting the failsafe, you do need to set some throttle. I think mine was set around 60%, this means it will control the speed but keep it on the slightly higher throttle side of things. If you're using UHF, hitting failsafe will be a very rare occurrence, and if failsafe kicks in, as the plane turns to return home you'll find you regain the RC link very quickly. Fantastic video, I notice you have flown a few videos around my local area derbyshire. Are you from derbyshire? I've come from multi rotors and looking at getting into fpv planes instead. I was considering a 1900 walker.

FPV planes feel more rewarding to fly in my opinion, I get a lot more fun out of them, the Skywalker is a great platform and has been round for many years... and are still one of the most popular for FPV

No i don't have later cut wood slots. I just have a home made piece of wood on the base inside. My pan and tilt is made of some sort of plastic, I got it from RMRC. It is mounted on a home made piece of Ply.
nice. but why RSSI was so low? may be DLA was with telemetry? i though must be more then 20 km to 50
+Александр Николаев I think there may be some interference in the area. I was told there is something transmitting on 433. My signal gets bad around 12km using the stock antenna, and when I use a directional high gain antenna on the DL I still lose the signal around the same spot 12km away. I've been out further in worse weather conditions too.

Yes I replied to one of your other 5 posts about this a while back. It’s old and discontinued so you should look into newer FCs on the market and forget about the Tornado OSD
(1) I'm a subscriber. (2) To be perfectly honest, you don't have to thank us for watching. How much did you spend on bringing this to us? I imagine far more than we did. What did we do? Absolutely nothing. We should be thanking you! I do. Yes, I know you're being polite, but let's change this paradigm. You put in the work while we do nothing: Therefore, the least we can do is to thank you! (3) As an RC pilot myself, I've noticed a trend: RC pilots who are good at aerobatics are surprisingly bad at landings. Landings are tricky. They expose the pilot's true capabilities. Give me power and altitude and I'll do crazy things for you. Limit my power and altitude and I'll expose my lack of finesse. Suggestion: Practice landings. Practice them often. Nothing is more graceful than greasing in that airplane after a long exciting flight. Anyway, thanks again for a very enjoyable FPV video. I loved it!

Hi nice video .. ,Please can you share your GoPro camera video settings and also advise what editing software you are using ? I've been using the RUclips movie maker software with videos recorded in 1080p 60fps. When I upload a video to RUclips the resolution is always poor quality and I'm unsure why ..

Hey, my gopro is recording in 1080 60fps. I use 'Final Cut Pro X' as my movie maker and when creating a new project set it to the quality and FPS I require. I would guess the editor you are using is dropping the quality.

I’ve been toying with an idea like that for months but ant figure out a feasible way to make it work.
CK_32 it’s just a MFD auto antenna tracker. Just plug your receiver into it, make sure you have an MFD autopilot onboard the plane (or add their telefly pro board if you want to use a different AP) and everything just happens automatically. It’s very simple 👍🏻

Such great smooth conditions. Wish the Cyclops was able to adjust to the actual alt and not the set launch site alt. By the way ... Ive had worst landings than that on many occasions haha.
+Aero FPV Yeah it was great weather that day :) SW glides so smoothly. I haven't seen any OSD/AP with that feature of showing altitude from land below, sounds to complex and costly... but with the MFD AP that I'm fitting to a Skyhunter at the moment it shows altitude from home point AND altitude above sea level as 2 separate readings. I'm used to landing in a smooth field so its normally easy :P

for ur ailerons and elevatore etc. did you make your own linkage mechanism or did you leave the flaps directly attached through the foam stucture to the plane chasis
Originally they were just hinged through the foam structure. After a fe months I added fibre tape as a precaution and would recommend you do the same.

And what starter OSD and ardupilot would u recommend
Dragon link works well for me, best customer support! Can't recommend IRC or LRS as i've not used them

+proffesionalretard Not really for a flight like this. The thing is its easier to assemble my GS with the tracker. To try and fly without the tracker would be a lot of effort and dismantling. I do also perform flights all around myself and this is when it comes in really handy :)

Yes but i don't know the measurement. Just measure the connection on the AP and buy silicone hose that matches
Adam aren't you over watting the motor with 4s and this prop,ecalc says it draws 580 W but the motor is rated for 500 W max.I would appreciate an answer because i planned on building a setup like yours.
+SimpleRUclipsr I know a number of people have run this setup with no problems. I've been flying it for a year and its still solid. It be more worried if this was running full throttle alot... but tbh it rarely sees full throttle.

What kind of pan servo you are using, I have a similar setup but the pan servos range about 160 degree so I can't look around whit it. Thanks !!!

Can someone explain to noob why ESC is outside? Does it warm up in flight?
Yes, an ESC heats up with higher amps running through it. This was my first build and only a glider style plane, so in reality it didn't really need to go on the outside. On my second build, a Falcon EVO wing, my ESC was inside with no airflow and kept going into thermal shutdown, meaning that I lost power until it cooled down. This one I had to move to the outside.
You use 1.3ghz video? And Helical on RX? How much mw?

The X8 looks great, and its huge, but I hear they're not very practical, not easy to launch, and have some unstable flight characteristics
