i have an intense fear of heights, mostly due to my lack of depth perception. Things that are close look to close and things that are far look too far down. I would honestly be too distracted to notice. Climbing im fine with because i’m not looking down, but a bridge freaks me tf out.

I have astigmatism in both eyes, but different angles because my body hates me. My diopter is only -0.75, but my astigmatism is so crazy that I can't read fonts for shit. So I really appreciate it too! So many games I'm like, "I can't read that!" On my 47 in tv...I'd have zero hope handheld on my Switch...

I always forget the beginning people in this game tend to die 😂 I was so shook by the bathroom scene in the beginning before being like “Oh yea. It is a dark picture game.”
I played this game on release and it was so buggy that it was almost impossible to take it seriously. None of the characters' eyes moved with their head and they just stared lifelessly into your soul, and before Jeff fell into the spikes, his neck did a complete 180 and he just walked around like that for a bit. 10/10.
It actually unintentionally heightens the horror. It becomes obvious that the game's going to make me lead the way in some sections but a suddenly mute, unmoving, crew member or members really does sinisterly shatter the illusion that the person I'm playing has more chance of surviving with one or two other crew around than if they were on their own.

So excited for another Dark Pictures! I don't know if Gab caught it, but when she was looking at the ledger with the past three groups of guests, each had their own distinct handwriting, but the check out dates were ALL written in the same handwriting! Even between the groups it was the same, not as if one person from each signed everyone out. There's ONE PERSON signing out for EVERYONE!
I loved the inclusion of the skeleton at the very beginning, and the ‘dark pictures’ being medical diagrams because Holmes was super scared of the skeleton in his doctor’s office as a kid, and some other kids shut him in a closet with it as a prank. People said he came out of that experience different. Maybe that knocked a few screws loose? Then as an adult, a few of his victims he basically harvested their skeletons and sold them to doctors for money. Grave robbing for that purpose was pretty common at the time, so buyers didn’t ask too many questions.
When Gab made the subtitles bigger, I was watching on my TV because my phone died and I said "thank you so much gab! I'm blind as a bat" also started my elden ring playthrough and I kept thinking "gab did it, I can to" and she really influenced me to keep going. So thanks gab 🙂
I wanted to watch her play through but she just talks way too much and it's so annoying all her constant comments and noises even comments not to do with the game. And I like people that talk during games but she just talks so much constant non stop I cannot even enjoy the game or listen to the characters talk and listen to other stuff in the game. And like I said I don't mind talking but this constant non stop talking is too much and annoying you cannot even enjoy game.

Marie sounds like Jessica from Until dawn, but it's not the same actress. She is voiced by Kitty Archer and Jeff is voiced by Edward Bluemel. Both of them are fairly new to the voice acting scene, and acting in general. It's really nice to see new talent being showcased in big franchise games. Holmes is voiced by John Dagleish, he's been in more stuff, mostly as minor characters, so I'm sure being a huge lead in this game is something he was really proud of.
I was born and raised in Chicago and never heard of HH Holmes till I randomly read Devil in the White City riding the L to work everyday, there are so many good documentaries on him, I love how jazzed you are about this piece of history, loving the playthrough!
Theory time: I think Joseph Morello was the guy that got everyone on the island, his whole family except him and one of his daughters survived (the whole "my wife is dead" ordeal you overheard and the burnt shoe you found) he probably has to stay and find the next victims for the yellow raincoat person. Maybe the old lady is the one steering the whole thing as she must've been there since it was a care home?? We shall see, the theories are already brewing in my mind I'm enjoying this a lot so far!!
yeah i was thinking the same thing! especially since he says he had a wife and has a daughter, and the email mentions bringing a wife daughter and brother. So maybe whoever is lured onto the island takes the name of du'met and then lures more people in under that name before they can leave?
I love that this game is based on H.H Holmes. I didn't find it creepy when I heard his story years ago but now it's very disturbing, not knowing that many deaths were being placed at a hotel. One of the seasons of AHS was a inspired by it, half of it of course.

It’s originally a southern Appalachian folk song dated back to a Baptist preacher in the early 1900s, but was probably cobbled together from older folk songs. It really is an amazing song, and if you haven’t heard the Shakey Graves/Monica Martin version, you should. It’s my personal favorite.

So I just finished binge watching all of Gabs dark pictures anthology playthroughs and finally caught up to this one. I'm really pumped to see her reactions to this game! Have fun watching everyone! Also for a different fun take on H H Holmes I recommend reading this YA novel called capturing the devil by Kerri Maniscalco!

I just realized that the story is all three famous hotels, rolled into one: Bates Motel, Overlook Hotel, and the Murder Hotel from Chicago. I'm really excited to see where they take this and spin it.
Yeah I really like this one too with how the characters kinda like in the House of Ashes grow together and have really fun moments where they interact or kick butt!

you have to read the "Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson. it is currently being made into a movie. i think Keanu Reeves has been cast to star in the movie. it takes you into the world of the Great Chicago's World Fair. the book uses this back drop to tell the story of Holmes. it is soooooooo gooooooood. the audio book as well is just as good.
And the city walk tour is great. You can actually go to the site of the hotel in Englewood, Chicago. It's a decommissioned post office building now. It still has a portion of the castle's basement and parts of the building are still original, but the remaining building is about 1/5 the size of the original.
Oooh and Kate is new. I don’t recognize Erin from anywhere but I know the rest. Mark is one of the warrior dudes from Ashes, Charlie is the bus driver from Little Hope, and you’re right Jamie is Fliss from Medan. So cool how much they can change them.
Judge is Jason House of Ashes but with moustache. I think the groom we see first is also Jason but with different facial hair. I recognize them by their jaw 🤔

In 2017, amid allegations Holmes had in fact escaped execution, Holmes's body was exhumed for testing led by Janet Monge of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Due to his coffin being contained in cement, his body was found not to have decomposed normally. His clothes were almost perfectly preserved and his mustache was found to be intact. The body was positively identified by his teeth as being that of Holmes. Holmes was then reburied.
I have a theory. I think the person who brought the group there is not actually Du'met but Joe Morello. If we see the register of check in and check out, Morello family seemingly left the day before the show crew came, which is the case for all the guests before Morello as well. So what if out of the entire Morello family, only Joe and one of his daughters survived and the real Du'Met let them go only if they lured in new victims? That would explain why they ran away immediately after the crew got in. Also the taxidermy guy might be the real Du'met who is a huge fan of H.H. Holmes and has recreated/renovated into the Murder Castle.

Since Gab mentioned Holmes not actually being “that bad” of a murder. I thought I should clarify some things. The issue with H.H. Holmes is we cannot factually confirm his kill count because of when he was caught and the time period in with he was operating. Missing persons reports were nonexistent, tracking didn’t really exist, it was incredibly difficult to verify much of anything. The actual hotel only contained a few hidden rooms here and there, mainly to hide furniture Holmes had bought on credit and did not intend to pay for or return to the creditors. As the home burned down, many people prefer to believe the falsified floor plans showing the place as intentionally built for murder and concealment of such murder. It’s absolutely true a lot of the lore behind the “murder castle,” was exaggerated by tabloids and such, likely not helped by Holmes himself insisting that he was innocent and had been possessed by Satan at the time. Back then these sensationalized journalistic pieces were often put into record as historical documents leading to a lot of confusion today when we can no longer reference the original building, hear Holmes’ original testimony and that of others, nor read police records of the time. Holmes confessed to 27 murders (some of whom were verifiably alive at the time) and while only 1 was able to be confirmed, he’s suspected of a total of 10. He was executed for them, but even if he wasn’t that shows you how reliable of a narrator Holmes was. The murders he was confirmed and suspected of had a clear and distinct motive, while those of the murders suggested by the murder castle theory really have no motive other than pure bloodlust and perhaps greed. While Holmes absolutely had greed, the murder he did commit and those he is suspected of don’t really show bloodlust, but necessity. He killed when he could tell his plans, lies, and delusions were beginning to unravel. For example, he’s confirmed to have murdered his business partner. He planned a scheme to falsify his partners death and collect his life instance, but when he couldn’t find a suitable body in time he simply killed him instead. Following, he’s suspected to have killed his business partners wife and kids over time as they each slowly realize Holmes spent in fact plan to reunite them. Holmes, to me, is simply one who believed himself to be smarter than the rest, likely suffered from delusions, and killed simply out of convenience, arrogance, and greed rather than bloodlust. He wasn’t even truly a serial killer, as he didn’t have a true method that made him unique if you separate him from the lore.
Paul Kaye(Charlie Lonnet) has one of the most relaxing voices I have ever heard honestly. P.s. My cat's name is Cassiopeia and it is rare to hear it spoken anywhere so that was a pleasant surprise.

I've been rewatching a lot of these, mainly cause I love all the choices being made. I'm really looking forward to an all death of the Devil in Me, all the different choices and ways it can happen/reactions. It's really relaxing to listen/watch this series, and i can't wait for the next game!
I wonder if when Season 2 comes out, there will obviously be events that happen in game that are influenced by the save file you have in Season 1. Since Season 2 is not out yet, the only thing I can compare it to is like when you are doing the Curator Cut the character you do not control will react based on the decision you choose for them in the main game. The reason why I bring it up is because when Gabs plays these games, she typically plays them three times: Vanilla, Save All, Kill All meaning her Kill All file is the most recent file

I just finished watching Wendy play co-op with Celine and it went from hilarious to scary to frustrating (because of major bugs). But one thing I kept thinking during their playthrough is: how the heck are you supposed to save anyone??!! 😂 I can't wait to watch how Gab will do on her first run, and really hope I get to join her "Save All, Kill All" streams!
Would also like to see a replay. She could go for the best ending -- or push for the worst/secret ending (which I think makes both the story and killer a lot more interesting). Either way, it's a shame that The Devil In Me didn't get a replay like House of Ashes and the others.
Love that Gab recognized Holmes and the murder Castle/hotel so fast! H.H. Holmes is interesting. He really was more of a conman and business man, rather than resembling a "typical" serial killer. He was detached, true, but he killed to collect on money and sell cleaned up bones to institutes... Plus, building a fancy death maze was quite the feat.
Also, Charlie the old guy was the war guy at the start of man of Medan, in my medical opinion guy, Mark is the same as Junior from man of Medan again, and Jamie is fliss, Erin and Kate and the little girl are all new characters? that couple, the lady was Julia, and the guy was reverend carver from little hopeeee. Charlie seems to look exactly the same as John from Little hope but they still have different Voice actors

this is my first video watching Gab and I love it. Massive fan of Jack and saw that she was doing this series too. They have similar humors in some ways but she's so deadpan and I love it so much. I will say, she's a lot more put together at the jumpscares than either jack or I are so far LOL I jumped when Jamie was too close to Kate😂😂😂

Plus the different cities he's traveled to. I don't know how well different districts cooperated during that time. I just know the confirmed death so far is 9. And, I'm pretty sure that was just the hotel.
He was also a liar. Some of the victims he confessed to killing were later found out to be alive. Most of the stories about Holmes were exaggerated or simply made up. Especially his "murder castle"

The reason the characters look familiar between the Dark Pictures series is because they do re-use models! They're sort of treated as digital "actors", and only need some editing/tweaking/adjusting to be used between the games. It cuts down on dev time and cost for Supermassive. I don't think all of these have shown up previously, but a handful *are* in Man of Medan and in Little Hope! The voice and motion-capture actors will change between games, though, so they aren't always voiced by the same people 🙂
I've been on a major true crime binge for the last couple of months which means that now I get the joy of catching up on all of your gaming series and I'm so excited for this game in particular!
i just finished this the other day & for the first time in this series (including Until Dawn & The Quarry) I actually lost EVERYONE! I want to replay & try my best to save everyone next time. there is a page that tells you every step you need to do in order to save everyone in all these games. going back to replay them again. eventually
I feel like a lot of the deaths were straight up bullshit. I lost all except Mike and Kate, but Erin dying in the vacuum chamber was unfair. How am I supposed to know there's a crack in kate's window? That's just pure randomness. Jaime died because I didn't want to kill the dog... Charlie was the only one who died because I made a mistake when you hold your breath. Mike seemed to have the most plot armor, I got caught in the basement and instead of killing me chloroformed me and tied me up to a pipe.
@@Quzga I think it shows that there are recent seals/welds on the window in the vacuum chamber Kate is in, but I really didn't register that first time through. Kate ended up with the dog... which I didn't kill ...and survived!! I have no idea why Jamie would die in the same situation.
I normally watch Sean’s playthrough of these as a movie night each time but I’ll choose you for this one :) they’re seriously my favorite thing every six months or so when they release a new story.
Don’t know why you needed to bring Sean up at all…especially since he’s been so disinterested in them and they’re just unpleasant to watch. I like Sean, but his boredom with these games are too palpable

I have astigmatism in both eyes, but different angles because my body hates me. My diopter is only -0.75, but my astigmatism is so crazy that I can't read fonts for shit. So I really appreciate it too! So many games I'm like, "I can't read that!" On my 47 in tv...I'd have zero hope handheld on my Switch...

I played this game on release and it was so buggy that it was almost impossible to take it seriously. None of the characters' eyes moved with their head and they just stared lifelessly into your soul, and before Jeff fell into the spikes, his neck did a complete 180 and he just walked around like that for a bit. 10/10.

It actually unintentionally heightens the horror. It becomes obvious that the game's going to make me lead the way in some sections but a suddenly mute, unmoving, crew member or members really does sinisterly shatter the illusion that the person I'm playing has more chance of surviving with one or two other crew around than if they were on their own.
I love how excited she is: both for the game but also the fact that called the bluff of the Holmes Hotel. She saw straight through it

So excited for another Dark Pictures! I don't know if Gab caught it, but when she was looking at the ledger with the past three groups of guests, each had their own distinct handwriting, but the check out dates were ALL written in the same handwriting! Even between the groups it was the same, not as if one person from each signed everyone out. There's ONE PERSON signing out for EVERYONE!
I loved the inclusion of the skeleton at the very beginning, and the ‘dark pictures’ being medical diagrams because Holmes was super scared of the skeleton in his doctor’s office as a kid, and some other kids shut him in a closet with it as a prank. People said he came out of that experience different. Maybe that knocked a few screws loose?
Then as an adult, a few of his victims he basically harvested their skeletons and sold them to doctors for money. Grave robbing for that purpose was pretty common at the time, so buyers didn’t ask too many questions.
When Gab made the subtitles bigger, I was watching on my TV because my phone died and I said "thank you so much gab! I'm blind as a bat" also started my elden ring playthrough and I kept thinking "gab did it, I can to" and she really influenced me to keep going. So thanks gab 🙂

I wanted to watch her play through but she just talks way too much and it's so annoying all her constant comments and noises even comments not to do with the game. And I like people that talk during games but she just talks so much constant non stop I cannot even enjoy the game or listen to the characters talk and listen to other stuff in the game. And like I said I don't mind talking but this constant non stop talking is too much and annoying you cannot even enjoy game.

Marie sounds like Jessica from Until dawn, but it's not the same actress. She is voiced by Kitty Archer and Jeff is voiced by Edward Bluemel. Both of them are fairly new to the voice acting scene, and acting in general. It's really nice to see new talent being showcased in big franchise games. Holmes is voiced by John Dagleish, he's been in more stuff, mostly as minor characters, so I'm sure being a huge lead in this game is something he was really proud of.
I thought she sounded like Emma from the Quarry. But I guess she just has one of those voices. Either way she did a great job.
I was born and raised in Chicago and never heard of HH Holmes till I randomly read Devil in the White City riding the L to work everyday, there are so many good documentaries on him, I love how jazzed you are about this piece of history, loving the playthrough!
Theory time: I think Joseph Morello was the guy that got everyone on the island, his whole family except him and one of his daughters survived (the whole "my wife is dead" ordeal you overheard and the burnt shoe you found) he probably has to stay and find the next victims for the yellow raincoat person. Maybe the old lady is the one steering the whole thing as she must've been there since it was a care home?? We shall see, the theories are already brewing in my mind I'm enjoying this a lot so far!!

I love that this game is based on H.H Holmes. I didn't find it creepy when I heard his story years ago but now it's very disturbing, not knowing that many deaths were being placed at a hotel. One of the seasons of AHS was a inspired by it, half of it of course.

It’s originally a southern Appalachian folk song dated back to a Baptist preacher in the early 1900s, but was probably cobbled together from older folk songs. It really is an amazing song, and if you haven’t heard the Shakey Graves/Monica Martin version, you should. It’s my personal favorite.

Potassium Hydroxide has a number of uses in chemistry but for this game's story I would say one listed in other uses in wikipedia fits the bill: Chemical cremation.
I just realized that the story is all three famous hotels, rolled into one: Bates Motel, Overlook Hotel, and the Murder Hotel from Chicago. I'm really excited to see where they take this and spin it.

you have to read the "Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson. it is currently being made into a movie. i think Keanu Reeves has been cast to star in the movie. it takes you into the world of the Great Chicago's World Fair. the book uses this back drop to tell the story of Holmes. it is soooooooo gooooooood. the audio book as well is just as good.

And the city walk tour is great. You can actually go to the site of the hotel in Englewood, Chicago. It's a decommissioned post office building now. It still has a portion of the castle's basement and parts of the building are still original, but the remaining building is about 1/5 the size of the original.
Oooh and Kate is new. I don’t recognize Erin from anywhere but I know the rest. Mark is one of the warrior dudes from Ashes, Charlie is the bus driver from Little Hope, and you’re right Jamie is Fliss from Medan. So cool how much they can change them.

Holmes was hung in Moyamensing prison in Philadelphia. There is a grocery store where the prison once was. I like to imagine that the frozen section is haunted by his ghost when I shop there

In 2017, amid allegations Holmes had in fact escaped execution, Holmes's body was exhumed for testing led by Janet Monge of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Due to his coffin being contained in cement, his body was found not to have decomposed normally. His clothes were almost perfectly preserved and his mustache was found to be intact. The body was positively identified by his teeth as being that of Holmes. Holmes was then reburied.
I have a theory. I think the person who brought the group there is not actually Du'met but Joe Morello. If we see the register of check in and check out, Morello family seemingly left the day before the show crew came, which is the case for all the guests before Morello as well. So what if out of the entire Morello family, only Joe and one of his daughters survived and the real Du'Met let them go only if they lured in new victims? That would explain why they ran away immediately after the crew got in. Also the taxidermy guy might be the real Du'met who is a huge fan of H.H. Holmes and has recreated/renovated into the Murder Castle.
If you play the full game, you'll find that Morello and his daughter were indeed only allowed to leave if he lured in new victims.

Yeah, their facial capture technology is a bit dated and expressions aren't very good, but it's par for the course at this point.
Since Gab mentioned Holmes not actually being “that bad” of a murder. I thought I should clarify some things.
The issue with H.H. Holmes is we cannot factually confirm his kill count because of when he was caught and the time period in with he was operating. Missing persons reports were nonexistent, tracking didn’t really exist, it was incredibly difficult to verify much of anything.
The actual hotel only contained a few hidden rooms here and there, mainly to hide furniture Holmes had bought on credit and did not intend to pay for or return to the creditors. As the home burned down, many people prefer to believe the falsified floor plans showing the place as intentionally built for murder and concealment of such murder.
It’s absolutely true a lot of the lore behind the “murder castle,” was exaggerated by tabloids and such, likely not helped by Holmes himself insisting that he was innocent and had been possessed by Satan at the time. Back then these sensationalized journalistic pieces were often put into record as historical documents leading to a lot of confusion today when we can no longer reference the original building, hear Holmes’ original testimony and that of others, nor read police records of the time.
Holmes confessed to 27 murders (some of whom were verifiably alive at the time) and while only 1 was able to be confirmed, he’s suspected of a total of 10. He was executed for them, but even if he wasn’t that shows you how reliable of a narrator Holmes was.
The murders he was confirmed and suspected of had a clear and distinct motive, while those of the murders suggested by the murder castle theory really have no motive other than pure bloodlust and perhaps greed. While Holmes absolutely had greed, the murder he did commit and those he is suspected of don’t really show bloodlust, but necessity. He killed when he could tell his plans, lies, and delusions were beginning to unravel. For example, he’s confirmed to have murdered his business partner. He planned a scheme to falsify his partners death and collect his life instance, but when he couldn’t find a suitable body in time he simply killed him instead. Following, he’s suspected to have killed his business partners wife and kids over time as they each slowly realize Holmes spent in fact plan to reunite them.
Holmes, to me, is simply one who believed himself to be smarter than the rest, likely suffered from delusions, and killed simply out of convenience, arrogance, and greed rather than bloodlust. He wasn’t even truly a serial killer, as he didn’t have a true method that made him unique if you separate him from the lore.
Paul Kaye(Charlie Lonnet) has one of the most relaxing voices I have ever heard honestly.

I wonder if when Season 2 comes out, there will obviously be events that happen in game that are influenced by the save file you have in Season 1. Since Season 2 is not out yet, the only thing I can compare it to is like when you are doing the Curator Cut the character you do not control will react based on the decision you choose for them in the main game.
The reason why I bring it up is because when Gabs plays these games, she typically plays them three times: Vanilla, Save All, Kill All meaning her Kill All file is the most recent file

I just finished watching Wendy play co-op with Celine and it went from hilarious to scary to frustrating (because of major bugs). But one thing I kept thinking during their playthrough is: how the heck are you supposed to save anyone??!! 😂 I can't wait to watch how Gab will do on her first run, and really hope I get to join her "Save All, Kill All" streams!

Love that Gab recognized Holmes and the murder Castle/hotel so fast! H.H. Holmes is interesting. He really was more of a conman and business man, rather than resembling a "typical" serial killer. He was detached, true, but he killed to collect on money and sell cleaned up bones to institutes... Plus, building a fancy death maze was quite the feat.
Also, Charlie the old guy was the war guy at the start of man of Medan, in my medical opinion guy, Mark is the same as Junior from man of Medan again, and Jamie is fliss, Erin and Kate and the little girl are all new characters? that couple, the lady was Julia, and the guy was reverend carver from little hopeeee.

Charlie seems to look exactly the same as John from Little hope but they still have different Voice actors

this is my first video watching Gab and I love it. Massive fan of Jack and saw that she was doing this series too. They have similar humors in some ways but she's so deadpan and I love it so much. Quick add: the number of victims can’t be accurately counted because of Holms methods of disposal. That being said, the numbers are based on his own admission and the press reports.
Plus the different cities he's traveled to. I don't know how well different districts cooperated during that time. I just know the confirmed death so far is 9. And, I'm pretty sure that was just the hotel.
He was also a liar. Some of the victims he confessed to killing were later found out to be alive. Most of the stories about Holmes were exaggerated or simply made up. Especially his "murder castle"

The reason the characters look familiar between the Dark Pictures series is because they do re-use models! They're sort of treated as digital "actors", and only need some editing/tweaking/adjusting to be used between the games. It cuts down on dev time and cost for Supermassive. I don't think all of these have shown up previously, but a handful *are* in Man of Medan and in Little Hope!
The voice and motion-capture actors will change between games, though, so they aren't always voiced by the same people 🙂
I've been on a major true crime binge for the last couple of months which means that now I get the joy of catching up on all of your gaming series and I'm so excited for this game in particular!

Not sure if anyone noticed but when gab was looking at the “sign-in / sign-out” book, the signed out dates are written differently.

i just finished this the other day & for the first time in this series (including Until Dawn & The Quarry) I actually lost EVERYONE! I want to replay & try my best to save everyone next time. there is a page that tells you every step you need to do in order to save everyone in all these games. going back to replay them again. eventually
This one is really hard. I lost 2 people on the first run through, which is unusual for me. Some choices are pure luck/guess work.
I agree, that this is a hard game. I completed the game yesterday on my Twitch channel, and only managed to save Jamie.
I feel like a lot of the deaths were straight up bullshit. I lost all except Mike and Kate, but Erin dying in the vacuum chamber was unfair. How am I supposed to know there's a crack in kate's window? That's just pure randomness.
Jaime died because I didn't want to kill the dog... Charlie was the only one who died because I made a mistake when you hold your breath.
Mike seemed to have the most plot armor, I got caught in the basement and instead of killing me chloroformed me and tied me up to a pipe.
@@Quzga I think it shows that there are recent seals/welds on the window in the vacuum chamber Kate is in, but I really didn't register that first time through. Kate ended up with the dog... which I didn't kill ...and survived!! I have no idea why Jamie would die in the same situation.

I normally watch Sean’s playthrough of these as a movie night each time but I’ll choose you for this one :) they’re seriously my favorite thing every six months or so when they release a new story.
Don’t know why you needed to bring Sean up at all…especially since he’s been so disinterested in them and they’re just unpleasant to watch. I like Sean, but his boredom with these games are too palpable
