It’s nice to see a twelve year old interested in lorries I grew up with.My father was a lorry driver right up to the late sixties and i used to go with him on weekends and school holidays.
Thank you for sharing this. I was 12 years old in 1962 - so many great British lorries on the roads then. I guess my favourites were probably Foden 8 wheelers and the big Scammells. In later years I used to enjoy coming across old classics surviving with travelling fairs. I still have a nice collection of Dinky models to remind me of those days...
The Sentinel (reg'n. BRF 200) caught my attention. Another channel I watch, "Doubleboost" has a friend with a Sentinel DG8. That one has a double front axle and looks to be quite a workout to drive. Another good presentation. Well done!
I was pleasantly surprised that a concrete mixer made an appearance, to find these as a historic or classic vehicle is quite rare. most are driven into the ground. PS I'm a concrete truck driver by trade and a big fan of classic trucks with an emphasis on construction vehicles.
When I was a kid regularly going over the Pennines (Woodhead Pass, Snake Pass, Standedge Pass) the AECs were the fastest when climbing but they could not match the Leylands for quality and reliability. Fodens, ERFs and Atkinsons did well too. Our Seddon was great too.
Loved them all; especially the Scammells. Thank you! Just a suggestion but when you're compiling videos from photographs, would it be possible to show them in relation to age so we can see how cab design changes over the years?
I remember the A and T Keogh Foden from when it was brand new. Keogh had various other large Fodens. All beautiful. I particularly liked the BRS Thorneycroft, I expected to see a Bristol. The oldest lorry I ever saw still working for its keep was a 1930s Leyland 8 wheeler. I am not sure if they called them Octopuses back then.
Agreed, the way I see it is - when I fall off my perch, he'll know enough about the junk that I've amassed not to simply chuck it in a skip. As he collects all sorts of things now (books, toys, oil cans etc - the intro was filmed in his own workshop), the future of my clutter is assured :-) Thanks for your support
