I actually loved that you went ahead and posted this even without April getting the full skill. It was encouraging to see how many tries it can take to make good progress. It motivates me to want to go out and keep sessioning things that I think I just haven't given enough attempts to master. I hope you film April doing a part 2 so we can cheer with her when she gets the handlebars turned all the way and gets that 180. :)
Wrigley is spot on. For these skills that don’t come naturally it’s important to see that it takes alot of practice. I’d venture to guess that most bikers are average riders at best (not taking away from April’s level) like guys like me. While only a select few who become pros like Kyle may have grasped these types of moves quicker.
Well said Wigley. April is a real trooper working new riding skills in front of the camera. Applied some of your lessons on today's ride. Carving turns with body position, jumping / hitting bumps with preload to prevent nose diving on short kickers. Keep up the good work!
April worked so hard on this one! It was so cool to see her determination and it made me really proud of her. It was really fun trying to break it down for you guys, Let us know if you have any questions or comments below! :)
The preload in body rotation is also used in skateboarding. This looks harder because of the fork preload needed as well. April is hardcore ,you are a great team.
Great teaching video, broke it down nicely. I've always wanted to learn this trick, will be really useful on downhill switchbacks. I always have put to much emphasis on the front brake (just like with stoppies). Got those after watching that video. Am confident I'll have more success now, just takes knowledge and practice. You've provided the knowledge. Thanks. And April - way to get after it girl!👊
Intelligently Stoopid if you want to spin the other way Kyle suggests switching foot stance. I tried to spin the other way without switching stance and it was way harder!
April was sooooooooo determined to conquer this new skill. I think this deserves a follow-up video after she gets more practice. Love hearing Kyle's descriptions of things to do and April's input on the things that are helping her progress. Always interesting! And this is coming from a 72 year old hack that went from on-road to off-road racing back in the early eighties; but, still having nowhere near the skills that April has learned and displayed over the past few months. But, I never had a mentor like Kyle. Keep it up you two!
Thanks Bill! It helps a ton having Kyle coach me through everything. I don’t like giving up, so hopefully we can post a video of me getting it one day!
I'm jealous. April manages to somehow stay graceful even when she's crashing. And... I had it wrong all these years! I always initiated with the brake and didn't push with my hind leg. No wonder I never got past 90 deg.
I heard April say feeling defeated. I hope you realize at the start of the video you said your goal was 90, and you way exceeded that. So feel hyped! Good job. There's always more for next time.
I first rode a mtn bike in 1985 and have had plenty of hospital visits which help me to understand my skills are not [yet] developed to the required level. Sometimes fitness can fill in the gaps but now I have the time to work along with you to increase my skill level. Please keep making your videos. Kyle, your patience and skill breakdown is helping ALL of us. April, you are the voice of all of us. Say what's on your mind (we are all thinking it anyways...). Many of us are putting away our road bikes for the year in favour of mtn and fatbikes so we have a real current need of your help. Teach on! We will watch, practice, & learn (& avoid hospital visits). Tomorrow, I try the endo turn! [...well, in a grassy field first, any more hospital visits and I'll be issued a frequent flyer card].
It's never about perfection. It's ALL about progression! April met her goal which made this a perfect video. And it's finally come to light why your tutorials are so effectual - you reveal errors that can be learned from... can hardly say that for other how-to MtB videos. Thank you for another grand delivery!
I've always wanted to do this trick. Alot of good info in the vid, can't wait to try it again. It all makes sense the way you demonstrated it. Great job guys.
@@frankruff4445 Hey Frank. Great comment! Kyle and April may not see it though since it's embedded in my message so you might want to repost in the main comment thread. Happy trails!
I never even thought about pushing the bike with my back foot, I always thought it was just momentum from the initial swing/pop. Thanks for illustrating it for us April! 👍🏻
Affirm saying "I didn't really accomplish it" is heart breaking! ESPECIALLY because she did accomplish her goal - 90 degrees! And that left arm - the thing happening is a survival reaction. She's unconsciously locking her left arm and turning the wheel back into the safe direction. (which I learned in this video, and have not practiced myself yet!) That unconscious reaction will always get us! Lol You guys rock! Thanks April for trying so hard! Inspirational!
Thank you for the kind comment! It is hard to go against your subconscious to want to keep you going your original direction. Maybe I will get it with more practice 😊
@@AprilRideMTB You were getting it! you guys rock! ENJOY your videos! Would love to chat with you guys about overcoming the subconscious and flow as well! (not flow trails, flow states and how they help with training and performance)
One of my favourite things about these tutorials is the real emotion that you don’t edit out, you can see and hear the mental battle April goes through, we see far to many video “tutorials” that are all finished product. Thank you April for your persistence and Kyle for being patient. You guys are helping me progress 🫡
April's progress is so inspiring! I love watching her challenge herself and grow and succeed! I'd love to know how she's doing now with her endo turns, almost a year later. I also had to smile when Kyle said "it makes me feel sad inside" at the end. I also feel sad inside when I see my husband crash :)
I wish I could give you an update, but I haven't put in another day of endo turns. I have been focusing mainly on wheelies and am more determined with that.
Why weren't you guys ( and RUclips) around 40 years ago. I'm 60 now and I just cannot learn these tricks anymore although I do try, April's determination is contagious. Fantastic video as always,
All of these videos are great stuff and very welcome. Watching someone struggle to learn a skill helps us who also have to struggle. Thankyou for your wonderful analysis of each skill. You are a great teacher.
One really good tip, is to focus on your front wheel a bit more. Think that you are pivoting and balancing on the front wheel; see Kyle's chest at 7:43 vs your chest, April, at 6:35. That will get you doing endo turns in a day! Great vid you guys!
Congrats on another great how-to video Kyle & April. I learned a lot from you guys. Love the way you breakdown each skill and inform us of the common mistakes others do. Looking forward to more videos from you guys.

Thank you - nothing wrong with building on solid basics ( these big bikes handle soo much differently than i remember my old 26 incher )
Ha excellent vid thanks.April has done very well thanks in no small part to having a good coach. The vid highlights perfectly that I was doing everything wrong. I brake before unweighting, try to turn after braking etc. I now get the concept perfectly, kinda like the handbrake turns you do in a car (without the lifting in the air) where you YANK the steering wheel and then pull up the handbrake. Now to go out and physically try the correct technique. I note that April seems to be trying to "counter steer" instinctively right after she initiates the turn and the wheel lift, and I believe that may be the cause of the struggle to get past 90 degrees.
These are the best MTBing instructional videos I've found, Kyle explains things so thoroughly. The derailleur maintenance video is spot on. April is a doll (with nerves of steel) they're MTBing's version of chip and Joanna Gaines. Keep it up, give us more!
Loved your Determination April, I feel that your drive to succeed has possibly been the most important part of this video. That is the one skill that many Beginners look for in these coaching videos and seldom see. You guys rock!
I did that for the first time a week ago following a really smooth rider, kind of an accident, we hopped the front wheel over a small log and needed to turn, he did it perfect and the little bump from the log and seeing him do it gave me just enough lift and confidence to make it as well. I was stoked, lol, can't wait for it to stop raining and try again!
April is such a good sport. Learning new tricks is hard but she really stuck with it despite a couple tumbles. She's going to be a better rider than me in no time and I've been riding 20 years!

Excellent coaching, Kyle! I like how you notice & tell specific points where April could do differently and how you ask her to reflect what helped her most make progress. Thank you again for another great video! Really felt for April on this one, 'beginning to feel defeated...' & as you know, often after one attempt which goes well, the next one, instead of being the same or better, is back to square one! Analogous to life I guess. It's comforting to know, even trick cyclists do endless failures before the 'take' which makes it look effortless (e.g. Danny MacAskill sliding his bike on a tree trunk, was 200+). It nearly brought a tear to my I at the end when you said, '... makes me feel sad inside..' Love you guys!
Yeah its hard having those "breakthroughs" and then back to square 1. April did an awesome job that day, we will for sure do a follow up when she gets them dialed!
She is one of us...I tried to bunny hop after some time off the bike and couldn't which felt bad. Watched this, borrowed some grit and managed to relearn the hop. These vids are both instructional and motivational fam.
Definitely seeing all the falling was great. Once you can fall off with no fear there is nothing you can't learn. Transfers across many sports. Your body learns a lot from an easy fall.
I recently did a session learning to wheelie, it's actually really helpful just sessioning skills on your bike. Tomorrow is learning to endo 180, cheers for the tips in your video 👍
I watched this video last night. Then I took these newfound skills to the park today and gave it a try. The best I got was about 90°, but it was fun! I'll keep at it! Thanks for these videos!
Well done April! It's easy to knock this but these types of turn require absolute control over the bike. and are more difficult than many other skills where there is just a single movement to focus on. Practice is the order of the day, and don't give up - your were really good, and great fun to watch - you made me smile! Kyle, you make these movement look so easy and natural, but breaking down the movement and the slo-mo's are priceless. It showed me what I was doing wrong....! Another great video,
Thanks for the hint with the push-leg to the back thing. Something I will definitely consider when I try to learn this skill in spring. Nice Vid, helped me a lot to understand how it works. Greets from Germany.
You're very cool guys :-) I've been on my bike for many years but always lacked the proper tecnique for the eno turns and the bunny-hops. Since the snow has finally melted away here I startet today with my first "training session" based on your videos. I got still a long way to go but I already see some (still minor) improvements. Thanks a lot for all your cool and easy to understand videos. Just amazing!! Greetings from Switzerland :-)
Another good one! Thanks April for your hard work. I'm adding this one to the list. I'm still working on the stoppie. Hey maybe you guys can do a rundown on your bikes and how you set them up? Thanks for all the help guys!
Kyle and April, you haven’t posted many videos of late. It’s hard to know what kyle is going through physically and emotionally with his illness, and April is no doubt going through tough stuff too. But I want to encourage you kyle to teach even if you up for riding much. Your style of teaching is so easy to follow and encouraging. Find a way to keep doing it kyle become your audience is still out there.

Glad this motivated you!
I love these videos! Excellent instruction and enthusiasm!
Thank you so much Rick!
This series is really great
Definitely seeing all the falling was great. Once you can fall off with no fear there is nothing you can't learn. Transfers across many sports. Your body learns a lot from an easy fall.
Yeah she is a trooper haha :)
I recently did a session learning to wheelie, it's actually really helpful just sessioning skills on your bike. Tomorrow is learning to endo 180, cheers for the tips in your video 👍
Good luck with the end 180! Wear knee pads for sure when you practice!!!
I watched this video last night. Then I took these newfound skills to the park today and gave it a try. The best I got was about 90°, but it was fun! I'll keep at it! Thanks for these videos!
That's still a good accomplishment in one day!
Another great video,
Thank you for the kind comments to both of us Bob!
This is exactly what I’ve been trying to learn, thanks for the tips!
Happy to help!
Thanks for the hint with the push-leg to the back thing. Something I will definitely consider when I try to learn this skill in spring. Nice Vid, helped me a lot to understand how it works. Greets from Germany.
Make sure you wear knee pads! My knee was pretty bruised from all of my attempts haha -April
best endo pivot tutorial out there !!!
April is my hero!
Thank you so much!
That's awesome, glad you are doing some training sessions 😊
Thanks Kyle and April 👌
This is an amazing tutorial, I've been practicing for months and never thought to carve into it. thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
What a trooper!!! Hope I have as much patients when I start attempting this! Mind you I'm 65...so there's that!LOL
It was a hard one to learn! Wear lots of padding. The inside of my knee had a big bruise from so many tries and pushing it against the bike to turn.
@@AprilRideMTB Good advise!! Keep inspiring us April!
Great video, as usual. Can't wait to try this.
April was awesome!
Have fun Peter!!
Kyle & April - Ride MTB Hmmm, I'm not getting very far with this, today. I may need to watch a couple dozen more times...
You two are so good! I can see an April Shred Spin off show in the future when the student becomes a master.
That would be super cool :)
Another good one! Thanks April for your hard work. I'm adding this one to the list. I'm still working on the stoppie. Hey maybe you guys can do a rundown on your bikes and how you set them up? Thanks for all the help guys!
Great idea!!! Ill put it on the list :)
Great job April! 0-135 degrees in one session is way better than I could have done I'm sure. Very inspirational :)
Found this video educational and fun. Thanks for the tips, time to get out and ride.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I could never dare to do this trick. Buddy of mine is a master at it...he does this move on switchbacks.... so cool.
Yeah they are so fun once you get them dialed!!
Another nice trick! I love the way you explain who to make this tricks, thank you very much!
You’re a great teacher, thank you
You're very welcome!
Well done and impressive bail April!
Thanks!
