Bitwarden is a fan favorite no doubt. But there are a lot of other password managers out there, so where does Bitwarden stand among them? Let’s find out in this updated Bitwarden review.
    ----------------------------------------
❓ Is Bitwarden more secure than other password managers?
in light of the seemingly constant Lastpass breaches, password managers seem less and less trustworthy. So, is Bitwarden more secure than Lastpass? Well, it hasn’t had any breaches yet, so that’s reassuring. But more importantly, Bitwarden stands out by being open-source, which means everyone with a bit of coding knowledge can review Bitwarden code. That said, Bitwarden isn’t superior to other best password manager options - it just handles its security in a different way. If we compare Bitwarden vs NordPass, which is the password manager that I use, then you can also spot a difference in encryption. Bitwarden employs the industry-standard AES-256-bit, while NordPass stands out with the more modern XChaCha20 cipher.
    ----------------------------------------
🔎 Ease of use & features
The interface is a bit basic, you get a list of your saved items and a space on the side where they open. The sidebar lets you browse through different types of saved data, as well as choose between folders. What I would like here is a more intuitive approach. The reports section could be integrated into the app, and it’s definitely not hard, most other password managers do it. Take the Watchtower tab in the 1Password app, or the Data Breach Monitor in NordPass.

    ----------------------------------------
    🔑 Bitwarden compatibility
One thing I can definitely praise during this Bitwarden review - it's their browser extension! I especially like the way the password generator is easily accessible here, and simple to use as well. Keep in mind that your experience will also depend on what device you’re going to use. Bitwarden Mac and Windows apps are not that distant, but mobiles are a different story. For example, Autofill enabling on Android is also dependent on what specific Android device you have. Thankfully, there's a Bitwarden guide on how to set it up.
    ----------------------------------------
    💥 Main Bitwarden cons
If you match up Bitwarden vs other password managers, then you start seeing some flaws. My biggest pet peeve is that no matter if I have the free or the paid version, I can only share my passwords with one other user - and I have to set up a so-called “Organization” for that. Also, take Roboform as an example, their pricing is almost the same, and yet functionality, at least to me, seems better, especially if you consider Roboform’s form-filling features and more streamlined mobile apps.

    Final thoughts ➡️
Let’s sum up this honest Bitwarden review. Overall, I do see the appeal of Bitwarden, with its strong security backbone, cheap premium plan, and minimal interface. However, I think their apps could use some polishing to match modern password manager standards and cater to beginner users, who might get a bit lost within their apps.

1:48 A note for other viewers - You may notice two of these options are greyed out and marked as premium features. These are proprietary options, and are entirely optional and not essential for your account's security. The free options are all open standards and work just fine (although I wouldn't recommend using the email option if you can avoid it).

2:07 Honestly, this is a fair critique. At the very least, Bitwarden should have a settings button, a Lock Vault button, and a Sync button in the sidebar, and have their Reports feature somewhere in the desktop app.

3:55 - Bitwarden added this functionality too. But don't forget to unlock your vault to see the logins!

1:20 Comparing these two encryption algorithms is like comparing a 10 foot thick hardened steel airtight door with 10 locks to a 12 foot thick one with 15 locks, and they're both installed in impenetrable bunkers. They're both overkill, just one is more overkill than the other. Maybe there might be more consequential differences in a quantum computing world but I don't know much of anything on that subject.

  • @Damariobros
    @Damariobros 15 дней назад

2:26 Really the only reason you'll need to access the password generator window is to change the parameters for the password you're generating, or if you're generating a username or password for a login you're not going to save to your vault. When you are adding or editing a login, there is a convenient button to generate usernames and password using the last parameters/settings you set right in their respective boxes, right next to the password audit and show/hide buttons.

I think the reason why they didn't really put any kind of focus UX design is because they are going towards passkeys.
but as of now we are too early for passkeys yet.

  • @Damariobros

Really one of the only gripes I have with Bitwarden is their lack of an autotype feature for autofilling into applications which are not browsers, like game launchers or Windows apps for example. There is an open source solution I have found for Windows, and it is very useful and convenient and protects against keyloggers and clipboard sniffers, but the setup can be a bit of a headache if you don't know what you're doing.
The research for an autotype solution was literally on Bitwarden's roadmap a few years ago and it hasn't been seen since - for whatever reason, Bitwarden is actively choosing NOT to include autotype.

4:14 I mean, wouldn't this be the case for the other password managers as well? Not an android user but just knowing how mobile operating systems go and the sheer diversity of different android systems that are out there, this seems like it's an OS issue rather than with the password manager.
Also the Bitwarden mobile app is a lot more conveniently designed than its desktop and extension counterparts, and makes use of operating system native autofill, meaning it can autofill in nearly any app as opposed to just the browser.

Great video and I use the program. Note: Under Win 11 perfectly with all browsers, but Pixel 6 with Android 14 no autofill with Chrome (Firefox works perfectly). Therefore not a full recommendation on my part.
