  • Documentary on Texas Mexican music shows how many poor Mexican American people in the 1930's coped with their social reality--segregation and discrimination--through their unique musical traditions. Documentary shows how Tex Mex music was influenced by the polka (oompah) music brought by German and Polish immigrants who played accordian. The Tex-Mex conjunto music is a hybrid of Mexican-German-Polish styles and tradtions. Clip highlights an early pioneer in Texas conjunto, the accordianist, Valerio Longoria.
