I've been tig welding for a couple of months now but mostly on mild steel pipe. when I started aluminum yesterday, I shocked the instructors and other students bc I already knew so much just from watching your videos. I recommend you to everybody looking for tig welding tips!
I’m in school just started TIG last week. My welds were frosty looking and I realized I was long arcing. Once i got in closer to my puddle my welds started looking nice and shiny!
I bought a Syncrowave 250 20 years ago to weld aluminum. All I ever have been able to do with it is make nice steel welds. My aluminum welding has been nothing but an exercise in frustration and failure. Until now! Your videos have been the magic bullet to getting things set up and cleaned up properly. I still suck but I`m now moving forward each day and feel like things are now coming together. Thank you!
If anyone is interested in gas flow look up the difference between turbulent flow and laminar flow; gas lenses and cups help create laminar flow (w/o weld spatter on the inside of the cup) where as conventional collet bodies and cups (and when weld spatter is present on the inside of the cup) have a more turbulent flow. Thank you so much for making this video Dusty!
I’ve been tig welding stainless and carbon. Never in my life messed with aluminum but I was asked if I could tig weld aluminum handrails. Gathering information from what you just shared, I believe I can make it work. Thanks!
Good stuff man! I took fabrication classes like 7 years ago and forgot some of this stuff so this was a nice refresher without having to hit the books. Thanks!
Thank you!!! I recently picked aluminum TIG welding back up after nearly 10 years and I was able to refresh my knowledge quickly and effectively thanks to your video 😁
Great video it's the only one I have seen that explains the machine setting in great detail, Just bought the same machine UK version this was a great help to get me started.
ive got to say since watching your videos my stainless welding has improved beyond belief no more grey crusty weld still practicing improving every day keep up the good work 😃
Glad you stopped the bead… then started again.. great to see how to start again where you left off on the bead. Thank you for the info. Learned to weld in another country in another language so still learning.
Great video! That whitish area around the weld is the cleaning action (set with balance) from the positive side of the AC blowing up through the oxide layer.
I've just discovered your channel and really enjoying it so far. Gotta echo everyone's else's comments (sorry) about the music! You seem like a very genuine dude too which always makes these sorts of channels much better. Keep it up mate
Ha thanks Daniel:) I think you’ll notice the music is much more background in the newer episodes, so I do listen!😂 But I really appreciate the kind words and you checking my vids out! Cheers
Hell yeah! Comprehensive and easy to understand intro to aluminum Tig. Keep them coming Dusty. Huge fan of what you are doing here. Great tip with the mothers polish. 🔥👍🏼🔥
Argentina nice! Thanks so much for the message! And glad you enjoyed! RUclips mixed the music super high on this one for some reason, I feel bad it’s a bit loud and obnoxious 😂 But I’m glad to hear from everyone about what works etc. It’s how I’m gonna learn! Hope things are well where you are!🙏 Cheers from Canada
Haha! Isn’t that money!? Don’t mean to brag😂 But when I figured that one out I was like ooooohhhhhhh boy I got a new trick!😂 And it makes me immensely happy to share it with other people to get them showing off their welds too!
Definitely agree on the keep the tungsten clean point. I usually sharpen a bunch so it’s easy to just slap a fresh one in the moment the arc starts to misbehave. Gas lens on aluminum though.. it’s pretty much the only metal I never use a lens for.
Amazing Jeff! It’s a blast. Slow gains and lots of tedious practice for sure, but it’s worth it:) And yes, the music is too loud in this one. My newer vids have it just for intro and end wrap up, I’m still learning how to package my vids:) Always a student! I really appreciate you checking it out tho! Cheers Jeff!
Excellent stop and start...you stopped on purpose to show off...hahaha... Your video is so complete that I can say.... Best ever . Jody and mr tig should learn from you
Thanks for sharing Dusty. I'm taking a Tig class here in Fairbanks, Alaska for another week. I love watching your videos for additional help that I don't get! We're doing aluminum and SS atm
Great job. I can't find the head to head canaweld vs everlast video. I personally have a Dynasty 400 in my home shop. You are a skilled young man. Great videos kind sir! I subscribed and hit the bell
Great video’s. You’re very easy to understand and I want to keep on watching. You don’t need the music though. It would be perfect if we just heard you. Cheers
Nice vid thanks for the great info. Well spoken and presented without been too over the top with info overload. Starting tig after wanting to weld ali for years. Fun to work with 😎
Thank you so much! That's great- it'll come soon I bet. It's kind of one of those things, that after a certain amount of practice, things kind of just "click." Then after that it's usually just a matter of keeping things going and learning all the little nuances of heat/filler rod balance, and then all the other fun variables. Let me know how it's going! Cheers!
Very informative, new fan. Practice practice practice, seriously, speaking for myself!! Tuning in your machine to your liking. Learning about, like you said hertz,Amp, Volts, I'm still learning after 20 years, lol.
Great videos for beginners like me.something i learned by myself.be sure the cooper piece that hold the electrode and the cup is tight.i use a players because if you hand tigh will come loose when you tight the back part to secure the electrode and the arc will be all over the place
Really helpful video, thanks! I’m curious about the amp settings for the +ve and -ve amps - I just bought a new machine and I can set the amps for positive and negative sides independently, as well as the balance and pulse. Do you have any suggestions for settings?
I usually always starts around %75 on the negative side, then depending on the job I’ll tweak it accordingly to what I’m trying to narrow down:) Glad you got some value from the vid! Cheers!
@@PacificArcTigWelding so with a positive setting of ~100 amps you'd go with ~75 for the negative? Seems weird that it's of any value to change the amps relative to one another when you can change the balance, which has kinda the same effect anyway.
Hey thanks! I get ripped a lot for my music tastes, so that’s refreshing to hear😂 My typical setup will be a 3/32” on my inverter with a 2% lanthanated. I’ll use a Ceriated also, either is cool with me:) Cheers!
Just found you channel, SUBSCRIBED! Really appreciate you clear narration and video. And I was interested to see your use of an ADF attached to a phone to shoot the welding closeups. Still too much contrast to see the puddle clearly, but MUCH BETTER than what I've seen on many other welding videos. Thinking about learning to weld, and definitely would like to be able to weld aluminum eventually. So now I'm doing my homework to decide which welder to buy and am finding video like this that provide great instruction and tips. I'm not sure how long it would take to be able to make use of this videos information, but at least I'll have it for when I'm ready! I didn't find the music super distracting, my suggestion would be to lower the music volume more relative to the narration so it fades into the background during voice-over segments.
Amazing! I’m happy you dig the vid! I’ve got quite a few now to provide some better breakdowns of specific things. This was just one generic vid (with the music mixed too loud I’ll admit) that got picked up, and am happy to see people who enjoy it! Please hit me up on IG with any questions at all! Cheers my friend
I love your channel. The background music is annoying when I am trying to listen to your thoughts and instruction, but will continue to listen. Nice content.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed! It’s actually from the RUclips music library, I have to use the copyright free stuff, I try to pick the most decent stuff I can....🙏
Great video. I would like to see a video about tungstens. What kind of stone to use and what not to use to sharp it them and why. Mainly how to go about sharpening a tungsten.
Hey! I kind of did a bit of these ideas in a previous episode, ruclips.net/video/SwdREabxSgE/видео.html But I could go into detail a bit more for sure:)🙏
I was wondering if you have a video on doing a outside corner joint with .060 with one of the pieces bent into a L facing inward. At work we have these aluminum boxes and the outside corner joints the top piece has a L shape flange. I'm having a hard time not burning threw at the end of the weld. Even when I'm running 75amps and letting the petal drop off where the puddle will freeze then remelt it dab then freeze it still tries to blow out.
I have a question about your speed when welding aluminum. I've been following along and notice that you move pretty slow when making a pass. I would like to know your thoughts on doing it at this speed. I ask as I was 'taught' 15 or so years ago that you have to move very fast when welding aluminum. I'm starting to learn aluminum welding with my new Everlast machine so curious what your thoughts are on your travel speed and how that matters. Thanks!
Glad I found your channel. Been tigin’ for long time but always looking for good genuine tips Like the Mothers. Also: Do you use 1/8” lanth mostly? I do. Even on thin aluminum It keeps me from sharpening and doesn’t erode as quickly like thinner 3/16”. It’s a really good tip ! I didn’t think would have much impact on my welding but boy was I wrong.
What tungsten do you prefer on aluminum? I was welding 1/4" the last few days and having problems with my tungsten splitting around the ball. I've only had this problem above about 185A. I tried E3, 2% Lanthanated, and 2% Ceriated. I also tried slightly blunting the point and "pre-balling" on a thick chunk. The pre-balling helped, but it would still splinter eventually.
Ahhhh the old cracking tungsten mystery.... it’s a tough one to fix. Different alloys split and some dont- no rhyme or reason. I’ve found that running a more balled tungsten as well as adjusting slightly more or less + side of my balance will find a sweet spot. Slightly more + tends to help in my opinion, but obviously differs for different machines... I’d start with running a little more than usual and then back it off over time to where you see the cracks develop. Then you’ll tend to find that sweet spot:)
@@PacificArcTigWelding good call. I had been floating between 30 and 35% EP but was afraid that going higher would actually put more "stress" on the tungsten. Yesterday I decided to just try 40% and voila, a nice stable ball!
@@treyrags Perfect. I usually try to push whatever tungsten as far into the positive as I can, before I see the "wobbling" or "fluttering" then will back off a touch and settle there. Like I said, settings are always different, and tungstens always perform differently. I like to help my students learn how to look for that sweet spot and dial it in, this way no matter what machine they're using they can usually dial it in to work pretty nice. Let me know how it goes! Cheers
nice vid bro cool to see the cannaweld!! excited about that review vid, i was eyeballing that ended up with a primeweld it was a decent machine for the money. i sold it not long ago and bought a syncrowave. its a straight beast

I have been a month into my tig welding at my new job. I weld .080 square tubing. What’s a good set up to make my welds look this good? And torch angle for a t-joint weld.
Hmm. Tough to answer with specifics. Square tube, it’ll be a real low setting, maybe 130-140 ? maybe a pulse set to like 100 or so pulse/second. A fast pulse will help to prevent overheating. As for the T fillet. Depends what position. I’d ballpark push angle of about 15-20degrees, and aim at the high side a touch:) Lemme know how it goes!
Can this weld be tested with Radiography & Ultrasound. What should the settings for 1/2 “ thick AWS 1070 material & filler wire grade without compromising the chemical compatibility of AWS 1070 Aluminium. The videos is quite helpful as regards the setting of parameters.
Great video on Tig welding aluminum I just started to learned on my own and this definitely helped on what I had set wrong on my machine I wish I could just send in a pic of my weld on Instagram and see what you think is going wrong.but good job and keep it up sir!!!!!!
Hey man great video! Thanks! Can any TIG machine weld aluminum? I’m looking to buy my first TIG welder for both stee and aluminum, maybe just under a grand...any machine you think would be best? Thanks, Adam
Hey Adam! Not sure about under a grand, but both machines I use on my channel are pretty cheap compared to big brands and they rip aluminum. Decent bang for the buck for sure! Not all machines weld aluminum, check if you’d has an AC setting 🙏🍻
Very nice bead young man! Obviously you have much practice at this. You make me want to start TIG welding again 😎👍 Your machine seems to weld very nice and smooth, very nice super clean precise edits to your video as well. As for the T fillet. Depends what position. I’d ballpark push angle of about 15-20degrees, and aim at the high side a touch:)
Lemme know how it goes!
Pacific Arc Tig Welding it worked. Looks way better today. Thank you
@@Tmpabound Nice! See you had it, no worries! Cheers:)
Another awesome video! I've been struggling with aluminum 😂

very nice welding
Peter thank you 🍻🙏
Can this weld be tested with Radiography & Ultrasound. What should the settings for 1/2 “ thick AWS 1070 material & filler wire grade without compromising the chemical compatibility of AWS 1070 Aluminium.
The videos is quite helpful as regards the setting of parameters.

Hey man great video! Thanks! Can any TIG machine weld aluminum? I’m looking to buy my first TIG welder for both stee and aluminum, maybe just under a grand...any machine you think would be best?
Thanks,
Adam
Hey Adam! Not sure about under a grand, but both machines I use on my channel are pretty cheap compared to big brands and they rip aluminum. Decent bang for the buck for sure! Not all machines weld aluminum, check if you’d has an AC setting 🙏🍻
Do you have any tips or tricks on how to tig weld aluminum on a vertical surface? Awesome videos by the way!
Very nice bead young man! Obviously you have much practice at this. You make me want to start TIG welding again 😎👍
Your machine seems to weld very nice and smooth, very nice super clean precise edits to your video as well. I can tell you’re really passionate and professional about everything you do.
Question: About how much does this machine retail for? You are using a pedal correct?
Thanks for your video, very cool, you ROCK!. ✌️😎👍
