Increasing sanctions against more countries will drive those countries to trading with alternatives to the EU and USA. Sanctions work against those imposing them.
If India (and China) are funding Russia's war, Europe and US are doing the same as well. The largest EU importers of Russian fossil fuels in July 2023 were Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Spain. In July, these countries predominantly imported crude oil via pipeline, LNG and pipeline gas from Russia. Reliance (Indian company) and one other big company refined Russian oil and sold it as significant markup to some Western European nations. Cheap Russian oil did not really benefit the average Indian. One positive impact it did have on the global economy was to prevent oil prices/inflation from shooting even further which would have happened if these India & China did not buy this oil. As for LNG, US remains EU's leading supplier in the second quarter of 2023, with a share of 46.4% in total EU imports, followed by Russia (12.4%), Qatar (10.9%), Algeria (9.9%) and Nigeria (5.1%). 18% of US's energy needs are met by nuclear fuel and 24% of this comes from Russia. The energy specific part of this report is highly disingenuous. They don't want to accept that Russia, whatever it's foreign policy may be, is an integral part of the global energy trade and they cannot really be 'kicked out' of the market.
A random number printed on a piece of paper doesn't determine how rich you are, especially if you print a lot of it. What did you think? Will the rest of the world stop running their trucks?
Governments produce whatever metric they can to make themselves look good. You should go by PPP and see if the population can afford to live. The US has high GDP, but everything is expensive.
Russia is biggest oil and gas reserve , they also have large uranium and diamond mines. They are largest country in the world by area and they have different natural resources.
What is important here is that strategically, EU had cheap energy from Russia, now they don't and instead India and China have it. And they have been growing for decades now, the effect will be visible after 10 years several decades in the future. And as a bonus now India is earning money from oil selling as well.
The saudis buying oil from Russia should tell you something about the extremely low price of that oil and how Russia is greatly losing in the matter. The EU isn't buying that oil for a higher price than it would any other barrel of oil from any other country, so as far as the EU is concerned, that arrangement isn't costing anything. The saudis are making a lot of profit of course, but good for them ;p.
@@SAapproves So your genius theory is: -> the saudis cut their own oil production to raise the prices -> the saudis chose to buy expensive oil from Russia at those higher prices instead of producing it themselves -> the saudis then sold that oil that cost them a fortune at market price to the europeans, making little to no profit, because why wouldn't they ;p ? You don't seem to understand that the saudis are human beings capable of counting and interested in looking out for themselves ;p. All to avoid the simple truth : Russia was desperate enough to sell oil at a price lower than the production cost for saudi's oil, so it was profitable for the saudi to buy the russian oil instead of producing it themselves. And then they sold it to the EU, making a bigger profit from which Russia didn't even the the shadow of a coin ;p.

The Russian economy has proved to be more durable than that of the EU, even with sanctions. So much for Russia just being a gas station. The EU still buys Russian oil and gas, just via a third party. Sanctions are just like an own goal!
What rarely talked about is that Russia had very low government debt to gdp ratio for a large modern economy. It's result of a long term budget policy. As a result, Russian government itself had very low dependance on foreign investors and now has a lot of room to run at a deficit.
haha, and who is going to loan money to Russia? nobody. The Ruble has dropped by half in a year and is now worth about 1 US penny. China has their own debt problem and isn't going to break sanctions to give a high risk loan to Russia.
@@PeterSedesse Government debt is mostly internal product (unless you are US). Also it doesn't matter how much currency is worth, it's about interest against inflation (or currency evalution against $ for foreign investors). Russia currently has pretty high interest rates - because central bank tries to cool down real estate market and to fight overborrowing.
@@smitias_8474 87% of US debt is internal, and the majority of the rest is EU with China at about 5%. Our current bond yields are at 3.9%. Russian current rates are at 18% which means that if Russia does borrow money to build military equipment it will be paying very high interest for it. But again, nobody is going to buy Russian debt, neither external or internal. If Russia was able to sell debt that easily, they wouldn't have shut down all govt projects for the past two years. Also Russians high interest rates have nothing to do with Russian real estate and everything to do with their inflation rate which has everything to do with the fall of the ruble. Diesel fuel was 300% more expensive for the October harvest than it was in 2022, which means all good prices are up substantially. Compare to the USA where fuel prices are down about 40% compared to last year and inflation was down to 3% last quarter. Putin is juggling the economy right now, wrecking the future of Russia just to buy himself a few months to get through his election without a crash. Interest rates at 18% means no businesses are expanding and none are starting up, but it does keep the ruble from going to 200:1 for a few months. As I said, the USA is building factories, roads, ports and schools, while Russia can build nothing.
Since the European economy is still breathing a bit and there are some manufacturers left in Europe, you can still impose more sanctions, guys. Let that last remaining business move to the US. I should not be the only US patriot, guys.
Yes, this is very good idea to move all rest manufacturing sites from EU to US. This action will safe EU producers from the dependent on Russian raw materials. All EU citizens will be happy finally.
The commentators ignored the fact that the sanctions initiated by the US and the acquiescence of the Western allies ( vassal states), such as, Germany and France in these policies also hurt themselves as much as they hurt Russia. It is a lose lose proposition.
😂 The funniest thing that Viktor Orban said from the beginning that the sanctions are useless he was right. Everything, he said in the past it is becoming true for instance immigration, he built a fence on the border, now other countries do the same and change their immigration policy.
He built his fence and they laughed at him for being a conspiracy theorist… but then complained when they were bussing the immigrants over to the north and helping them cross borders.

Reasons: bad availability and quality of healthcare, big rent, poor job market, car-based infrastructure (you need a car to move anywhere), high price of maintaining a car. According to him Russia is a better place to live than Canada. "Hundreds of thousands left" And most of the have already returned because they were running from mobilization.
I’m not even an economist or a military analyst, but knew that this would not end well for the collective west. Russia is a commodity based economy, while most of western economies are soft technology based economies.
My understanding is that EU wants to buy the oil but doesn’t want to pay for it 😂. If you want to ban Russian oil, why does EU still buy oil and gas from Russia.
Sanctions directly benefits the US with the exponential sales of oil, gas, weapons, and other commodities to Europe since the war started. It also indirectly benefits China and India. I would say in the long term it also benefits Russia because the sanctions took out all the US and EU brands out of the country and were replaced with Russian brands or brands from allies. These US and EU companies even left their equipment, know-how, and were bought off at bargain cost if not free. McDonald's and other food chains were replaced by Russian brands that offer similar options. Factories were replaced with Russian or Chinese manufacturers. Russia is one of the few countries that had a trade surplus due to this. More products made in Russia and investments from allies, and less imports or investments from the US and EU. The main loser was Nato countries or most of Europe. Europe are followers nowadays lead by the US. Nobody wants to be lead by European countries anymore. They had their chance a few centuries ago but they messed up destroying everything in their path, and now they want to lecture the world in human rights. 🤣
you only have to look at a map, to realize that these sanctions will fail and backfire but the western hubris doesn't seem to have any limit...they still live in the 90's
Western sanctions measures harm those who impose them against Russia. Sanctions have eliminated competition in the Russian domestic market, which is good for domestic producers and the Russian economy as a whole. Even though Russia does not have everything in the country that is required, for example, to produce chips or other equipment, it is supported by the majority of the world’s population. For example, China, which is an unusually technologically advanced state and is constantly developing, supplies Russia with the goods that it needs. But in the modern world, it is also not a problem to simply bypass sanctions.
That's not really true. In a dictatorship you cannot have free market anyway. Any company will be restricted to match the ideology and agenda of the status quo. So this is really a poor argument.
A physical blockade of the Danish strait in the face of Russian oil tankers is a dangerous move that could entail a Russian militaristic action against it in order to unblock the strait, or at least entail some kind of Russian physical retaliation.. if a Danish physical water blockade was in any way, shape, or form a feasible thing, it would have been implemented already.. I don’t think the Danes will be eager to put themselves in harm’s way!
And not a word about how the higher energy prices in the EU are affecting both companies and private citizens. The sanctions cut both ways and for the time being they are badly backfiring against the EU. I can attest to that as a EU citizen and currently residing there. Stop the war, sue for peace and normalise trade and other relations. That is the best course to follow.
How in the world could the West impose a price cap on Russia's oil? The West has no leverage to enforce a price cap. The seller (Russia) and the buyer (India, the West, China, etc) dictate the price based on supply and demand.
Since the imposition of EU, US and UK sanctions on Russia their economy has been doing quite well. Can the same be said for Germany, Netherlands, England and a host of other EU countries? EU vindictiveness it appears this time has not paid any dividend. I feel sorry for Germany.
What about the Russian economy is going well? Even before the full scale war, Russian GDP per capita was far below even their poorest EU neighbours, like Bulgaria. In the last year, Russia has had to ration diesel, food prices are soaring, and people are literally freezing to death even in wealthy cities like St. Petersburg. Russia can't even supply their people with the commodities they're supposed to have an abundance of. This is not comparable to western countries by any measure.

Yeah, if you sanction everyone in your village, then you basically is on exile.
As for LNG, US remains EU's leading supplier in the second quarter of 2023, with a share of 46.4% in total EU imports, followed by Russia (12.4%), Qatar (10.9%), Algeria (9.9%) and Nigeria (5.1%).

haha, and who is going to loan money to Russia?

Why are there no sanctions on the UK for occupying northern Ireland? There should be consistent standards or no standards.

you only have to look at a map, to realize that these sanctions will fail and backfire but the western hubris doesn't seem to have any limit...they still live in the 90's
