Soul AND body are sanctified together in our ancient Orthodox Faith. I would not recommend the Philokalia to non-Orthodox who live outside the Grace-filled Mysteries (esp. Holy Eucharist). We all must beware of Gnostic ("evil body") influences in Evragios. The source of evil, as the Lord tells us is "the heart". By the way, not all monks are "elders"; some are just "elderly". We pray for the gift of "discernment of spirits" - from the Holy Spirit which we ask for humbly from Christ our God.

Quite a long time has passed. I really have no idea if you are still an atheist or not, but in case you do, I just wanted to share some of the words of Saint Silouan the Athonite:
"We are able to treat of God only in so far as we have known the grace of the Holy Spirit; for how can a man think on and consider a thing that he has not seen or heard tell of, and does not know? Now the Saints declare that they have seen God; yet there are people who say that God is not. No doubt they say this inasmuch as they have not known God, but it does not at all mean that He is not.
The Saints speak of that which they have actually seen, of that which they know.
Pride does not allow the soul to set out on the path of faith. Here is my advice to the unbeliever: let him say, “Lord, if you exist, then illumine me, and I will serve you with all my heart and soul.” And for this humble thought and readiness to serve God, the Lord will immediately illumine him… And then your soul will sense the Lord; she will sense that the Lord has forgiven her, and loves her, and you will know this from experience, and the grace of the Holy Spirit will be a witness in your soul of your salvation, and you will want to cry out to the whole world: “The Lord loves us so much!”
I really wanted to share this with you, as Saint Silouan the Athonite said that it is a very terifying thing for the man to die in unbelief.
May God always be with us and bless us.

I'm not a "true believer," but I honestly can't hate on people in convents and monasteries who spend 75 percent of their time praying for my eternal soul.

How could you possibly "perfectly know" these people if they are hermits?! How many have you met face to face, in the wilderness? The forest ranger could rarely see them but you "perfectly know" them...
No wonder Americans are becoming less and less welcome around the world, offending one of the dearest people in our country, the hermits. Thank God not all Americans are like you!

that way of living should be revealed to more people. Love is the hardest but easiest thing to do in this world. But for being Love you have to love yourself and u have to love your enemies, everything in fact. Because everything is God. And your ego is just an illusion, the biggest enny of your soul. Anyway, this video is full of acknowledgments and very very interesting.

Romanian is a mix of latin, slavic, and a few turkish words as well. The monk is talking with a slight moldavian regional accent. FYI

at least 8 of the 10 commandements are essential for me too. :)
But one wise man said once. "Without religion good people are doing good things and evil people are doing evil things, but through religion even good people are able of evil things." Whatever, in the case of good people i have no problem if they are religious... i am olny afraid of the others.

God reasons are His own. He came and told us not to kill anymore. Until He orders us something else, that's what we're supposed to obey - "Thou shall not kill!"

First, you get a warning for your language. Secondly, "curatenia trupului", if you know any Romanian as you claim, means "pure body".
