As a new spinner, thank you for showing your process for preparing your roving for a combo spin before you actually start spinning. This was very helpful.
Idk if I'll ever start spinning, but I really enjoy seeing the process. Thank you for making this video, I've always wondered how those fuzzy, fluffy braids turn in to yarn!
New spinner here and so grateful for the video. Even though I'm reading a lot about spinning I am a visual learner and seeing you actually splitting and grouping your fibers made it much clearer for me. Thank you and I'm now eagerly looking forward to a combo sweater spin after I finish spinning for the Traveler Shell.
As a new spinner, this we SUPER helpful. These terms like "combo spin" get thrown around, sometimes without a lot of explanation, so this was really helpful. One question: Are you planning a future video where you show the completed yarn, and then maybe also your completed sweater?! I've learned enough to know that the fiber evolves and changes appearance as it becomes something new (fiber to yarn, yarn to fabric) and I'd love to see what sort of results this method netted you. Thanks again!!
This was wonderful!! I have a spinning wheel and it has been ages since I used it. I’m an avid knitter and am feeling overwhelmed by all the fiber choices. Now I love the thought of subscriptions for fiber and then creating a sweaters worth of various colors and fiber!! Thank you!!❤
A thousand thank yous for this video. I am primarily a knitter, but as I get to the point where I don’t need (was it ever really about need? 😉) another sweater, I find myself sewing a lot more and am now learning to spin. I really enjoy the variety of your content these days!
Oh, thank you for that video! I was about to start a combo spin for the exact same pattern, and i was not sure how to prep the fiber because of the different types of wool! 😊
Thanks so much for this video!! I just got a bunch of different color/fiber blends as a gift and wondered how to spin them all together. I currently only have some Turkish spindles, but looking into getting a wheel in the next few months! Really appreciate your detailed video.
🌴☀️ I almost have enough for a wheel (it’ll be better for my posture)…I’d save a TON of money on yarn 🧶 🤭I’ll get one soon hopefully, I’ve been watching spinning in Craftsy. You do such a fantastic job although you can be tough on yourself at times. Hope you enjoy what you spin☀️🌴 Edit: GIRL 😮your spun yarn looks better than Spincycle 😲the colors…oh my gawsh 🤩
Thank you so much. I really am interested in starting to spin too and found your recent videos so helpful to actually try starting it out. As i couldnt find any classes near me so far i am so grateful that you shared infos about your process. Looking forward to all the things you are sharing with us :) one thing i am still struggling is how to decide on a spinning wheel. Most probably i will start with a drop Spindle to test it out but really love the look of a spindle wheel and would love to invest in one. But Die to the price i dont know what to look out for as i cant test one out near me. Can you help with that? How did you decide in your Model?
I completely understand! I wasn’t able to test one out either. I did a LOT of research and I found that one of the best wheels to get is a Lendrum DT. This is great for beginners but will also take you thru your entire spinning journey. And the price point is better than others. I started with the ashford kiwi 3 and did also get a Schacht matchless later. I think the matchless is one of the best wheels there is but it’s not a great price.
Thanks for this helpful video! How do you know how many ounces of roving you need for a project and also how do you know how thin to spin the yarn to make it a correct weight yarn for your intended project.
A lot of this comes with practice! The more you do it the more you will see what weight yarn you come up with. For me - a wool fiber 2 ply generally gives me a fingering- sport. Three ply gives me a worsted when using a wool fiber. So I take that and look at the grams called for in the project I want to knit. Then I try to get a couple of ounces extra so I can do a quick test with the fiber to see what I’m getting when I spin it up and ply it. Basically a gauge swatch for spinning
Kaci, I love this video! Any advice on what to do when plying and one bobbin runs out before the other? I know it will never be exact making this something I need to learn to manage better. Thanks in advance!
I was thinking a combo spin was something different thanks for the video. I thought you just took 3 braids, spin them separately and Plied them together. This is more detailed. I’ve actually done this way but didn’t realize what it was called.
Hey Kaci! Thanks SO much for this video, I was just thinking to myself last week that I need to research how to do a proper combo spin, I've kinda just been guessing. This was so informative and helpful. One question for you, you mentioned splitting the fibres once more for your sleeves to accommodate the smaller circumference and hopefully keep the colour changes fairly even. Did you mean you split the strips one more time widthwise, so that they were narrower strips? Or did you split it again lengthwise, so that they were shorter strips? Thanks so much!
Thank you so much!! Would you show us the FO? I am also subscribing to Hello Yarn….I would like to see how yours looked. Only if it’s okay.❤
As a new spinner this was fantastic. Thank you. Your spin was looking beautiful 😍
Yay! Thank you!

It’s a fun rabbit hole!
She does make spinning look so beautiful and she’s about to trap me too. 😀

Great to hear! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video! I have so many fiber braids and I haven’t been able to figure out what to do with them all….this is a great idea!
Yay!!! Thank you so much for watching!
So much joy here! I don't spin (yet) but really enjoyed this. xo
Thanks so much Blair!
It looks like the fiber dyer had you in mind from the start with those colors! Very pretty!
Yes! Thank you! I love hello yarn!
I never knew it was possible to know so much about yarn and knitting. Amazing!!!
❤❤❤❤❤ 😘

Wonderful! I hope you enjoy doing a combo spin soon!!!!
Very interesting I am nit a spinner but looks so rewarding and fun 😊
It really is!

Spinning yarn is definitely special feeling!!!
Thanks Kaci, that was so interesting! That was my question for you in your insta stories 😁
Yay!! ❤
Great video, thank you!
Glad you liked it! Thank you
I'm still working on the cross knit looping backstrap weaving sweater panels on the 2nd part
Nice!
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
Hello!!!
It was really helpful to watch how you split the fiber step-by-step. How long does it take you to spin up one nest, or one braid?
I’m so glad! I’m not sure I should time myself. Maybe around an hour?
I don't spin...yet. lol. This was quite interesting
It’s a lot of fun!

Another lovely pod!
Can you share the name of the piano piece at the end, it was so lovely and meditative
I will look it up and let you know!
Kaci, I love this video! Any advice on what to do when plying and one bobbin runs out before the other? I know it will never be exact making this something I need to learn to manage better. Thanks in advance!
I always bracelet ply! Or Andean bracelet plying is another name. I’m going to upload a video for that soon!
I was thinking a combo spin was something different thanks for the video. I thought you just took 3 braids, spin them separately and
Plied them together. This is more detailed. I’ve actually done this way but didn’t realize what it was called.
You can also do what you mentioned first as a combo spin! But this is a great way to do a sweater quantity
Thank you Kaci ! How many strips do you make per braid (8 or 16 ?). Then how many strip do you have in each little nest ? Thanks again
Hello! So I end up with 16 strips from One braid and then I chose about 4 for a pack or nestlet
Hey Kaci! Thanks SO much for this video, I was just thinking to myself last week that I need to research how to do a proper combo spin, I've kinda just been guessing. I spilt them vertically so they were the same length strips only thinner!
Not planning to spin for a couple of years (retirement) so I feel when I watch spinning content the info will seep in slowly by osmosis....
Good plan! You’ll have a leg up when you’re ready
You are so gorgeous so beautiful
