    Very nice and well done scouting trip. Monument Valley would be an excellent spot to see the eclipse. We are staying in a Bryce Canyon National Park cabin near the rim. That way we can walk over to view and image. I will use 2 cameras and 2 lenses with solar filters: 1)Canon 6d with Sigma 14mm lens with solar filter and 2)Canon 60Da with 1.4x teleconverter, Canon 400 mm L lens with solar filter. I know that annularity will not be centered like in Capitol Reef or Monument Valley but we will also be visiting other locations in southern Utah on the trip.
    Clear sky !!

    Going to Corpus Christi Texas baby! I have a friend from Cali flying in and we're going to watch it on the beach. As of today, Corpus will be a cool 85 degrees and lots of sun (except during the eclipse). Nice! Going to watch the April eclipse on top of Enchanted Rock. Nice again! Texas is loaded up on eclipses over the next few months.

    Thanks for this; just what I was looking for. You don't mention it, but the shot of you by that leafless tree would actually be a good location. If you could get both the tree and the eclipse in focus, with the exposure right, it would be very dramatic. I will be near Richfield and Beaver.

      You should! It will be a fun event. However, if you can only plan one trip for an eclipse, then pick the total solar eclipse in April 2024.

    Hi, I chanced on your channel and absolutely found the planning helpful and I do appreciate your roadtrip to show the locations within the path of annularity. I have booked a hotel in Kayenta in Oct for the eclipse to head out to Monument Valley, and happen to see this video at the time, how far were you from the visitor center (only been there once before) was your location close to where the cabins were? Would you be ok in sharing GPS coords or location tips within Monument Valley. I am still new to the hobby but have used Photopills alongside Google Maps, and found it initially daunting. Any tips.

    • @TotalityTown
      @TotalityTown  Год назад +1

      Honestly haven’t used Photopills before, but have heard great things about it. I was probably about a mile from the Visitors Center, as the crow flies. I looked at the angles from the Visitor Center as well and they just don’t come out as well as I like for getting the path to line up with the monuments themselves. I wish I’d had more ability to scout other locations within the park, but I needed to get to my next spot in Utah. There should be lots of other great places within Monument, though. The trick is to find a spot west of the monuments because you’ll be looking east toward them at sunrise and during the eclipse. Hopefully photopills can help you with that part. If at all possible, be there the morning before the eclipse so you can see if you like your location and quickly check out your secondary site. Email me through my website and I’ll see if so can do some more to help you. Totalitytown.net

    I saw the eclipse in Salem Oregon back in 2017 and was too focused on it to take any decent photos. The ones I did capture were pretty amazing tho, and they were on film!
    I want to try and capture the eclipse this year at monument valley with medium format film, tho I don’t know where the best location might be, as I wanna capture the mittens. I know the visitors center will be packed so I don’t think that’s the best spot. How far out did you drive to your location?

    I wish I'd seen this before committing to an Eclipse Workshop in Crater Lake NP, Oregon! Oh well... It sounds like your approach to capturing this upcoming event will be a wide-angle shot showing foreground. If so, How are you capturing it when you should have the solar filter on? Take it later or before and combine the two? I'm trying to figure out my strategy for that day. Thanks!

    • @TotalityTown
      @TotalityTown  Год назад +1

      Good question. Yes, I’ll do wide angle. I’d like to make a super-quick video about how to photograph this annular eclipse but probably won’t be able to. If possible, take your landscape shot in the evening (either before or after the eclipse) because that is when it will be directly lit by the Sun rather than backlit. Though if a backlit foreground would look good, take it just before sunrise, too!

    Thank you for sharing you knowledge. Do you know where I can find the angle above the horizon for different locations along the path of the upcoming annular and total eclipses across the United States? Along with NW Mexico for October 14, 2023, my hope is for Ingram, Texas for April 8, 2024. It is a lot of driving for this Minnesotan, but I enjoy the adventure in getting interesting photos.

    It is my plan to go to Bisti Badlands or Valley of Dreams in NW New Mexico just northwest of Chaco Culture NHP. It is very remote but great for clear skies and smaller crowds expected. I'm just concerned about how to get the landscape included with the hoodoos and still have the annular eclipse in the scene. I suppose I will have to get closer to the hoodoos in order to get the ring of fire within the landscape. Then I will focus stack to get both the foreground and the eclipse in perfect focus.

    • @TotalityTown
      @TotalityTown  Год назад +1

      Sounds like a good plan and a fun shot. Depending on how wide the field of view for your camera lens is, you might need to be further away to get both in the shot. If you are there the evening before, use a planetarium app like Sky Safari to see what star is closest to where the Sun will be during annularity the next day. That way you can know how well everything fits and how it will be framed. If possible, take landscape shots at sunset the day before as well as sunrise - each has its own lighting. Please share your result! It sounds great and I’d love to see how it turns out.

    Bro, you have a SERIOUS audio issue. You need to "normalize" your audio tracks before you publish. I've got every volume control maxed out and I can barely hear you. All of your videos are like this, some worse than others. This one is the worst I've heard yet. If you can't normalize, just increase the audio level so that it peaks just below the red line (where the audio meter turns red).
