    You inspiring your family to homeschool your nephew is the sweetest thing!! I helped my sister homeschool my nephew during the shutdowns. They moved, and he is now attending school. He had an assignment and put down “Tia G” as his favorite teacher 🥹

    Love the accordion folder idea! I've been keeping my kids' papers in a cubby holder as well this year so far. My plan is to sort out and keep the special papers but then, have a "last day of school bonfire" and burn the papers we don't want to keep. My kids love fires in the firepit so I think they will love it 😂❤

    hahaha... we're skipping spring too. I've been warning everyone to enjoy the rain 'cause this week we're going from 50's to low 80's. Homeschooling older kids is such a weird reality. Enjoy!

    I find that art is the only papers we like to keep. We don't keep much but then again I'm not super sentimental as far as school stuff goes. Next year I will have 2 middle schoolers (6/8 grade) and a possible prek son (age 4). My oldest daughter would love that taco bell shirt.

    I have a hope chest, large plastic bin & a couple baskets w/ my kids stuff!!! I need to find a balance for sure!! When I was little, I kept things that were special to me myself. I’ve always been sentimental!! My kids have loved seeing things I made, my journals, special rocks… lol 1 of my boys has made himself a special little box for all his special stuff too🥰yep, sentimental family over here!! 💕 your storage ideas!!!!

    Our weather is crazy! We're in the desert too. We had beautiful 70's, then bam it was 88° on Sunday and now tonight we're under a freeze warning and by Thursday we're back to 80's.
    Over our Christmas break I did the same thing you are working on with school papers. 11 years of papers stuffed in a box are now organized in accordian folders for each kid.

    Question- what do your kids do during morning time when you are reading to them? My boys are 9 and 10 and cannot sit still, want to talk about 100 things that aren’t related to what we’re reading, and it’s so frustrating. There’s so much I want to do in a “morning basket” time but I always quit because either it takes hours and hours to get through, or I just get aggravated and give up. Any advice? 💜

    • @GraceandGrit
      @GraceandGrit  Год назад +6

      Mine sit and listen and it’s a skill we’ve worked years to develop. Don’t give up. Give them something to color, doodle, handwriting, even some legos to play with while they sit and listen, so long as those do not become a distraction would be my advice.

    • @aimeejohannes6713
      @aimeejohannes6713 Год назад

      Exactly what Ashlee just said! When I first brought my kids home from public school, their ability to sit and listen was pathetic. Read alouds were so hard. It’s taken every bit of the past 3 years of homeschooling to develop that skill (and we are still working at it!) I give them paper and pencils, legos, play dough, and snacks. We tried to do morning basket on the couch but that did not work well at all, so we sit around the table now.

      For the questions not related to your topic, I ask mine that if it's related not to the topic, can he remember to ask it later, or should we write it down? Just keeping a notebook beside you shows that you're both taking them and the homeschool time seriously.
      We also use kinetic sand and playdough to keep his hands busy. It takes work, but eventually it gets better.

      I do the exact same with fidget toys or a coloring sheet but I also give them a time limit that we will read so that they understand it won’t last forever lol One of mine is ADHD and another just hates reading time. So some days I think I can get away with 20 minutes and I set the timer and tell them “just give me 20 minutes and then we will do x,y and z”. Other days it’s going to be 5 minutes. And eventually we will build to longer times but I have found between letting them fidget and the timer it works pretty good

    I noticed that you have a couple basset hounds. I have a funny question, but what kind of food do you feed them? Do they have any particular allergies? I have a 4 month old basset hound puppy, named Huckleberry. He's having some issues with a chicken allergy and I'm trying to just get recommendations from other Basset owners on what food suits their bassets best. Thank you!
