Independence and freedom is two diffrent things . Toussaint Louverture abolished (or tried to ) slavery on the entire island incuding what is Dominican Republic today. Dessalines with many other Hatains forefathers fought for our idependence. They're are many hatians who sacraficed their lives for our idependence and freedom, not just Dessalines. They all deserve our respect and admiration.

You are misinformed, Toussaint Louverture freed the slaves of the entire island. Dessalines with other Hatains forefathers Henri Christophe , Alexander Petion and many others fought and won our independence.

Alot of you fail to realize without Toussaint Louverture leadership early in the Revolution Dessalines would not be in a position to gain Haiti independence later on. Also Haitians need to stop thinking that one man made the revolution happen. Their was many people who fought and die for Haiti independence alot of them, we will never know their names. You must show equal appreciation for everyone who lead to hataian people freedom and independence.
