- Industrial engineers talk about the jobs they do, the satisfaction they experience and the impact they make in people's lives. IEs are people who like to solve problems - and find the quickest, fastest and best way to do something. They apply their knowledge and skills to improve systems - of people, machines, materials or energy. IEs are employed in diverse industries such as defense, healthcare, consumer products, entertainment, aviation and food manufacturing. There's a great demand for IE professionals in the US and internationally, with starting salaries between $55,000 and $65,000.
