- Michele Mouton, the only lady to win a World Championship Rally, recently got back behind the wheel of a Porsche 911, in preparation for the Rallye International du Maroc from October 9-16.

2 year break from driving, unfamiliar with the car, the car being a classic 911 known for deadly snap oversteer, on gravel, being driven hard, holding a conversation in a secondary language. Anyone who knows this and isn't impressed is a moron. She makes me think of Tiff Needell, but he's talking in his first language, on tarmac, often in much more predictable cars. He has it easy. :)

gbean Rally drivers are the most fearless of all racecar drivers, especially ones from her era, she drove in the days of super long stages, 600 horsepower off road sports cars and spectators literally running out of the way as you came around the corner, in no era that's ever existed has a NASCAR stock car driver came anything close to the danger of rallying. Nothing else in a car is or has ever been as on the edge. Imagine driving at break neck speed on back country roads with no run off sometimes on the side of a mountain, with little knowledge of the course just a navigator calling out the turns and route.

I was 14 when I saw her win the Sanremo rally, I looked at her at the awards and fell in love. 42 years have passed and still today my heart beats strong for her...

I love it how she keeps claiming "aah, I'm used to AWD, so eeeh RWD I have to get used to." "I have not driven for 2 years now, I have to get used to this kind of driving again."
She says so, but in the meanwhile she is driving a visciously scary car, that is frightening even on tarmac, with high speed doing some decent jumps and sliding through corners, scaring the shit out of that guy there...

Lucas Bakker let alone it's a 911.. Not an easy car to tame unless you can feel what it's doing, your hands and feet know exactly what to do, I can't explain it.. I just can do it. She has natural talent. Like racers they feel it..

Mouton's legacy is amazing and she shows here just how good she is.
I would imagine though that she would have hoped that another woman would have surpassed her by this point though. It's a shame that nearly 40 years on, no woman has outdone what she did in Motorsport.
Few men have come close to doing what she's achieved. If it was a matter of not out done for women, the situation would be acceptable.

My favorite Michele quote was after she won the Pike's Peak Hill Climb multiple time winner Bobby Unser complained that a French woman driving a German car should not have been allowed to compete in front of her she cooly and calmly replied; “If you have the balls you can try to race me back down as well.” Lul, he didn't.
Michele won 4 World Championship Rallyes on Audi Quattro. And in 1982 nearly the World Championship. What a woman - Simply the best !!!
You forgot The French Rally Championish, German Rally Championship, Le Mans, and broke the Unser family stranglehold on Pikes Peak.

I would hate to be the poor SOB that has to detail out the interior of said vehicle after she takes kids to ANYWHERE (parents are always complaining about mess on normal roads while driving quasi normally. imagine this).

In all seriousness fanboyism Michelle is my favorite Group B driver. Yes she smashed the boys club by winning in Monaco but I just love her style, flat out but SO precise, you can see a lot of what Loeb does came from Michelle originally.
The beautiful sport of rally teaches you about life. It’s wonderful in so many ways.
When I was in my early 20s, I discovered Rallying. One day I saw that Tamiya had a very nice model kit of a Quattro rally car, and it had Michelle's name on it as the driver. I wondered, who was this woman? So I began to find out about her and quickly I was in love not only with the amazing Quattros, but with her. =) She was a fearless, determined woman, who had to prove everyone wrong about a woman's ability to compete in motorsport. So earned everything she got, the hard way. Even Walter Röhrl, a very outspoken critic of her in the beginning, eventually recanted. When she got out of that car after a hard drive, took off her helmet, and shook that wonderful dark mane of French hair.... that was a good day racing. =) I wish her continued success in everything she does.
Unlike many frenchmen she used to speak perfect english in 80s. Nowadays her french accent is deeper but his english is very good annyway.

Oh it's been two years since I drove a rally car. (procedes to throw a freakin wrap you around a tree era 911 into a four wheel airborne drift over a rise like it's just a cruise to the next starbucks.) Absolute legend.
Most drivers in this world are not talking "i havent driven rally carry car for 2 years" while correcting snap oversteer of 911. Without any pause mid sentence. We love you Michele.

Danica thankfully only hurt racing cars in Nascar. in the crazy Group B era, with her as a driver, she'd ve either killed herself, co-driver and/or a lot of spectators as in Portugal 86. put it this way, she alone would've had Group B banned 4 years before it was.
