  • My Red Shoulder Severum looks totally different! What transformed him from being very dark to being very light? What things can change the color of our fish? Let's talk about what can change the color of our fish so much that it makes us ask, "Is that the same fish?"
Have you seen this happen with one of your fish? Why do you think it happened? Comment below because, _"We all learn from each other on this channel!"

    Hey Ben
I been keep sevs for years and that sev is definitely stressed , those aren’t his regular colors, the more prominent the stress bars are the more stressed the severum is. In my keeping of them they do best with Geos and other mid range aggressive fish, a Salvini, large Oscar, or larger Vieja will 100% stress a Severum out, unless they have grown up together which is sometimes a double edged sword. Also just an FYI I leaned over the years….Sevs do best on veggie and plant matter based foods vs protein. My sevs get hardly any protein and their staple food is sera veggie based foods for the most part.

Good points. I'm not seeing any damage to his body so it doesn't seem like he's being attacked. He is active and eating well and I do mix veg in their food. I'll keep a close eye on him. Thanks.

I think the fish that’s changing colors appears to be OK no fin damage. but I would definitely keep an eye on it as I know you will. 👁️👁️

My severums change colour all the time depending on mood, stress, breeding dress and all the things you mentioned. To me it looks stressed from the change of being dominant to being submissive.

Severum 3:07 looks like he might be dealing with something be picked up in the new tank. Probably stress induced by the move but all the same. Something has made it in.
I suggest a paracleans round on him in quarantine for a few days.

Just inspected him under bright light. He looks great and is eating and much more active than before. I’ll keep an eye on him. Thanks.

@discusnt what were you seeing at 3:07? I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything... It's a real question. I went through that period from 230-330 a couple times and didn't readily identify anything. I have this combo in my SA tank where the red spotted is the tank boss and the red Shoulder is just a guy. Like Ben, my guy is pretty drab most of the time but a few times a week I can look at him and say dude is on fire because all those bars will start to pop and that red comes out fire. Otherwise 3:07 seemed used to what I see from him.

It's just my opinion but you're aquariums water looks yellow but you can change that with a UV filter and/or slightly blue lighting.
