HI FRIEND!! 🩷 I'm so excited to hear about how the first half of your reading year has gone 🥰
Sally Rooney has been so hit and miss for me. Ive hated one ans absolutely LOVED another.
    Ocean Vuongs writing is incredibleeeeee.
I answered the last question the same. We dont NEED to read, we GET to read and what a gift that is 🥰

      Hello friend! ☺️💛
I really didn't enjoy Conversations With Friends very much but I loved her other two. Normal People is one of my favourite books of all time.
That's it exactly. It's so easy to put ourselves under pressure, but like, hobbies are supposed to be fun...?
I look forward to seeing your next video! 💜

I enjoy this tag a lot.
    1. Best Book so far: Tie: What Is the Grass: Walt Whitman in My Life, (Mark Doty) and Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent, (Dame Judi Dench)
    2. A new release you want to read-My Mama, Cass (O Elliot-Kugell); Liberty Equality Fashion: The Women Who Styled the French Revolution (A Higonnet); The Freaks Came Out to Write: The Definitive History of the Village Voice, the Radical Paper that Changed American Culture (T Romano)
    3. Most anticipated release for 2nd half of the year. The Bluestockings: A History of the First Women’s Movement (S Gibson)
    4. Biggest Disappointment--Now All Roads Lead to France: The Last Years of Edward Thomas, a 1-star read for me.
    5. Book that surprised you the most-North Woods (D Mason). I expected a rich frolic in New England history...its not that.
    5. New-to-me favorite author Mark Doty and W Somerset Maugham
    6. New favorite character-Felix Holt
    7. Book that made me cry-A Man Called Ove, F Backman. It's considered humorous, but I never found it funny.
    8. Book that made you happy-Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent, Dame Judi Dench
    9. The most beautiful book this year--What Is the Grass, North Woods, or Western Lane.
    10. Book that you need to read by the end of the year-Look Homeward Angel (T Wolfe), I’m a few chapters in, beautiful writing but I'm a little lost at the moment.
NOTE: I do read fiction. This year I've read: Tom Lake, Western Lane, The Painted Veil, North Woods, A Man Called Ove, and Felix Holt: the Radical. All terrific. But few made these categories.
    Thank you for your channel.

This is such a great response for me, particularly because lately I've been trying so hard to find and read more engaging non-fiction books. The only one on your list that I've actually read is A Man Called Ove, so you've given me plenty to research and potentially read ☺️
      Thanks so much for watching!

☁ Thank you for doing this tag - here's my take📚
    1. Favourite book so far in 2024? - Tough but going to go to 'Elena Knows' by Claudia Piñeiro, translated by Frances Riddle
    2. Best sequel? - ... 'Went to London, took the dog' by Nina Stibbe (sequel to 'Love Nina') - stretching the definition slightly
    3. New release haven't read yet? - 'The ammendments by Niamh Mulvey, 'James' by Percival Everett
    4. Most anticipated release for the second half of 2024? - The two you've mentioned and also 'Heart be at Peace' by Donal Ryan
    5. Biggest Disappointment so far this year? - 'The flea palace' by Elif Shafak (I will try another by her though); 'Afterglow a dog memoir' by Eileen Myles and 'Labyrinth' by Kate Moss
    6. Biggest Surprise so far this year? - 'This particular happiness' by Jackie Shannon Hollis ; 'Pity' by Andrew McMillan (such a layered emotional punch for so slim a book); 'Help Wanted' by Adelle Waldman (the humanity of each character)
    7. My new favourite author? - Megan Nolan or R.F. Kuang (thank you for the Poppy War recommendation)
    8. Newest fictional crush? N/A for me but I'm going to use this for books with characters who felt like friends - Bellies by Nicola Dinan, Come and Get it by Kiley Reid, Piglet by Lottie Hazel
    9. New favourite fictional character? Lucrezia from 'The Marriage Portrait' by Maggie O'Farrell
    10. Book(s) that made me cry? - 'After You'd Gone' by Maggie O'Farrell; 'What I'd rather not think about' by Jente Posthuma, translated Sarah Timmer Harvey
    11. Book(s) that made you happy? - Thankfully many more than just one - 'In the lives of puppets' by TJ Klune; Book Lovers by Emily Henry and Tom Lake by Ann Patchett.
    12. The most beautiful book I've bought this year? I'm trying to do a "no new books through the door in 2024" (on account of a very large TBR) but have failed on a few occasions - one of which was for 'This is My Sea' by Miriam Mulcahy
    13. Book(s) I need to read by the end of the year? As many owned books as I can - currently I keep falling prey to BorrowBox and the Library 😰📚😌
    ☁💚

I've heard SUCH great things about Elena Knows. I'm definitely going to pick it up the next time I allow myself to buy a few books!
I've heard that 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World by Elif Shafak is a good one, but I can't personally recommend it because I haven't read it yet.
I'm so glad to hear we have another Poppy War fan! ☺️
So far it sounds as though you've had quite an enviable reading year. I too keep falling foul to BorrowBox but I've been trying to just select books on there that I already own to listen to and it seems to be working relatively well 😅

I haven't seen any other booktubers read The Toy Makers. I loved that book when i read it. Tried one of his others, Paris by Starlight and DNF'd it, which was disappointing. Think I'll give him one more go if he publishes something new
I've just started my Robin Hobb journey again. I've read the first two trilogies but want to commit to the whole thing this time so have started Assassin's Apprentice recently and am enjoying it just as much as last time 😊

      Thank you, Niall!
Oh, I've come close to buying Ghost Mountain so many times. Not only is the cover beautiful, but Panenka was one of my favourites of last year too.
We are absolutely BLESSED with our library service. I always took for granted that we have a publicly funded library system when I was younger, but I'm so grateful for it now. And even if you never read a book, there are so many great events and services that they offer. I'm so glad to hear you've begun to utilise it.
On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous isn't for everybody, but it is SUCH a stunning read if it's the sort of book that you enjoy. I'd love to hear what you think of it if you ever get around to it ☺️
