It took me a while to figure out what you meant by this comment, but it finally clicked for me, so here you go: Artists don't always pick a project to adapt because they want to make "the most accurate translation from the source material." Often they pick it because it speaks to them in some way and they want to reflect that out to the world. That's definitely what happened here with The Crow. It's also a motivation that reliably pisses off the fans. Like what we saw with The Crow. (This is a big reason why, as a filmmaker, I try to steer away from IP. Unless my interpretation meshes well with how fans already engage with the story, it's a creative minefield.)
