    I agree with what you say around 12:30 on - that I do not worship-by playing the song - I play to worship the Lord

    Shawn my biggest struggle as a bassist doing ambient guitar was "do i play only 5ths only 3rds on that chord? (where the rhythm guitar plays the full chord notes) and u rly helped me (especially in this lesson) being amble to compose on local church songs and only after to focus on lead parts (like lion and lamb). If you have other recommendations/videos for composition ambient parts on. a chord please throw a title and I'll search it myself. U helped a lot 😁

    Quick question
    I noticed you kept to the key of G while using these voicings. I believe you were strumming with the open strings. If so, how would you keep these voicings in other keys?
    Loved the voicings but I seldomly play in G.
    Any ideas?

    • @WorshipGuitarSkills

      I mute the G string. Then I can move the shapes around.
      I do a breakdown on String Muting in this video ruclips.net/video/DlYHKekGKBw/видео.html

    Thanks for the video. From a learning point of view, it would be helpful if you could quickly mention from which "bigger shape" each shape comes from. Basically CAGED stuff, but not going too deep into that. From my experience of roughly 5-6 years of learning guitar, for a beginner the basic open chord shapes and this kind of stuff (inversions or even 2-4 shapes) seem like totally two different concepts, even though they are really tightly connected to each other.

    This is an excellent tutorial, and technique. After a few weeks of practicing this, I can work out progressions pretty quickly. With a little gain, delay and reverb it sounds great.

    The fact that you can play most modern worship with three chords is an indictment of the quality of today’s worship music

    • @WorshipGuitarSkills
      @WorshipGuitarSkills  Год назад +3

      The blues also only has three chords.
      It all comes down to application and understanding the role and purpose of our function as worship guitarists.

    • @nevilriker5090
      @nevilriker5090 Год назад

      So it doesn't really matter that the psalms 33 tells us to play skillfully. The harmonic complexity of high worship since the reformation is the indictment of the cookie cutter approach to modern worship.

      @@nevilriker5090
      I think you’re understanding this wrong. This video did not show us 3 chords. Let alone is it saying that modern worship can be played by only 3 chords. These are 3 chord “shapes.” These shapes allow us to utilize our understanding of music theory to take advantage of the guitar’s fret board. By using these shapes, we’re not just simply playing 3 chords but instead generating numerous chords without having to be so complicated about it. In short, it’s like solving a high level calculus problem by hand vs solving the high level calculus problem with a calculator. The first method requires extensive training and heavy understanding of theories and laws to solve the problem. However, if you know how to use the calculator and understand how to input the problem into your calculator, you can solve that high level calculus problem with ease. Would you say that any and all high level calculus problem is easy then if you were able to solve it using a calculator? Most likely not. At the end of the day, the calculus problem is still difficult. I believe this video is simply a cheat sheet to help us direct our energy to other things. Aka by keeping the playing simple and easy, our hearts and minds can be more focused on worshiping the lord than trying to sound magnificent and complex (although the great thing about these chord shapes is that they allows us to be magnificent without the complex part, also meaning that we have achieved the ability to play skillfully - as mentioned by my mentor who taught me how to lead worship, more does not always mean that its better, rather its about how you execute it).

    • @rainierblancia
      @rainierblancia 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@nevilriker5090well if you can’t play those 3 chords skillfully what’s the difference. You can be a “knowledgable” musician but if you suck in practice then it doesn’t matter. You have to play skillfully even though the song only requires one chord or a bunch of chirds.
