This song and album grows on you. When I first listened to this album, I thought it sucked. But after listening to this album a few more times, it's just as great as their older stuff.

      @PatchTM983 4 года назад +3

Me too. I think the band's problem is that they ask too much of the listener, at least in terms of the mood or idea they're trying to get across. Once I do pay enough attention to it and just let it be what it is, though, they rarely disappoint. Oceania is top tier pumpkins to me now. But I still find it less accessible somehow.

I haven't listened to this album since it came out and I'm revisiting it. I remember being surprised by how much I liked the previous album (Zeitgeist) which was recorded by just Billy and Jimmy, so I recall being pretty bummed out that Jimmy was not returning on this album, but my hopes were still high for another good Pumpkins album. I remember this album being somewhat forgettable and unimpressive, but so far I'm finding that I actually like this one a lot more after coming back to it years later... Or maybe it's just that the first track was really good and the rest of the album was mediocre lol.

i wish people would stop using the word underrated. who's managing the rating and who is not rating high enough? silly. if you know sp, you know what they have achieved and their skill level so you can appreciate their work. if you dont know them then you dont know them. not knowing them is not underrating them.

Firstly, I do agree that those two are masterpieces. But Oceania is meant to be experienced as an album. It takes you on a musical journey. Its probably the last time Billy is gonna set out to make an album that's designed to be an "album" unfortunately, due to the fact that no one will buy them or even listen to them anymore. Its get me to the chorus, get me to the bridge culture. Monuments is Billy's response to that, and its a masterpiece itself in what it was designed to do, but it wasn't designed by Billy to be an "album" experience. If you understand the title of the record it explains itself thoroughly. Oceania is a record that requires several listens before you begin to understand how powerful it truly is as an album. Imo.

Holds my actions to the flame
    Casting shadows in the sand
Flip me over, time is running out
    waves are getting drier
    shores are getting bolder
    darkness is getting colder
The sun is just a memory
Blood of mercury in my vains
Surgery my fire, smoke my blurry mirrors
Can't see what is in front of me
Can't feel what I left behind
    Only can be right now

Most of them are married and have kids so they have different obligations/duties these days including a variety of other endeavors or interests outside of music they get themselves involved in. Consequently, a lot of them are no longer able to solely focus on music like they use to. What matters the most is the fact that great classic rock bands like NIRVANA, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, among many others will never be forgotten and always be remembered as legendary figures in music.

My point is that the some of the people I mentioned had too much of a profound and powerful impact in their respective fields to ever get lost in time. Their significance is too important to ever be forgotten. Please don't take this the wrong way as I'm NOT trying to attack or bash you in any way.
Although I agree with you to an extent, it's not completely true as I explained earlier and for the record, I also get your point as well my friend. ;D
