My uncle Tom RIP who lived in Clare close to the Galway border used to sing this beautiful song back in the 60's. Now I am a long way from Clare, this song has stayed with me and to hear this brilliant singer Daoiri Farell sing it is a joy to my soul.
Perfection. His vocal gift (one of the greats for sure) and spontaneity make every song he sings new and very special. So happy to find a new singer to enjoy between listening to Paul Brady and Dick Gaughan! Inspiration that keeps me deeply inspired.
Daoiri and dick gaughan are my heroes on songs. This music clears my mind in humility and makes me more believe in humanity. for peace and harmony joy and love and humanity kindness and compassion and understanding for every living beings.
Both my wife Sally and myself had the pleasure of seeing you live in Newport IOW at the Quay Arts Centre. It was a great evening especially getting to know both you and your Dad while having dinner. We both loved your music and the stories. Good luck with the rest of your tour. Till we meet again.
Interesting version. I like the way he sings a more usual way at the start. The uncle of a friend of mine was the first to write the song down - he got it from an old lady in Co.Derry.
This is a traditional song, not written by Daoiri or Donal. Maybe correct the blurb at the top. But this is such a beautiful and innovative interpretation it almost feels like a different song. Pure class.
I'm an American with Celtic roots and have recently discovered Daoiri Ferrell ! I can't stop listening to this awesome Irish music!! Thank you sir!🍀

To paraphrase the french poet Alfred de Musset, I would simply say:
"The most melancholic songs yield the greatest beauty
And I know of immortal ones that are the purest sobs."
Thanks for sharing
That’s an excellent quote
Jaysus did this man not take this song into another level 😳
indeed
Don't use the holy name of our LORD in vain! It is huge and serious sin.
