Really enjoying your channel Matt...I was 16 when the Suede record came out and it changed my life...we were so lucky to be young and right in the eye of a musical storm....which followed on from the absolutely amazing Grunge scene. I'm 46 now and feel so grateful to own so many great 90s records and recall so many wonderful memories soundtracked by all those bands. Can I add records by Elastica, Manics, Gene, Charlatans et al to your list please....PS: Modern Life is Rubbish is my favourite Blur album....
My era was the late 70’s and early 80’s. Bands like Madness, The Specials, The Beat, The Jam, Secret Affair and the like. That period was also a special time (for me at least) and of course some of these went on to inspire the 1990’s “britpop” so I suppose it was pre-proto- britpop era just with different labels like mod, ska and two tone etc. Like you I ditched all my record, cassette and CD collections years ago which I’m regretting now but it’s fun trying to build it back up again at 56 and just playing the CD’s for the time being on an old second hand Sony all in one hi-fi I bought for £50. I’ve been enjoying your videos, keep up the good work 👍
Nice to see Suede's debut getting it's due as a proto-britpop album but the band and the album that everyone seems to forget is The Auteurs New Wave in 1993.
Surely was some great music that came out of the 90s! I was lucky enough to do some work at a house a couple of years ago to meet the drummer from a local Britpop band. They where called Soda, after a great conversation, he gave me a CD, the album is called Artificial Flavour. Did you know about them? If not then IMO, if you can find them lol, the album is definitely worth a go, it's a little gem!
Thanks for the recommendation Nick, I didn't know about Soda. I'll see if I can track down the album at a reasonable price. Found one on eBay but it was £50! lol.
