I find that defect is a power-hungry character. Echoform, Loop, Capacitor, Defragment, Biased Cognition, Creative AI, and Buffer. There's just so many. Awakened One looooooves the defect.
I’ve gotten Defect and Silent up to a20, mostly through lucky runs post a15, but I’ve still been loving this series. I’m learning a lot of basics I missed along the way
Thank you so much for these guides!! I have about 100 hours in Slay the Spire, but never beat the heart until your guides. Just beat it with Ironclad and Silent today and about to try with Defect! Your explanations have been super helpful. :)
Couldn't have asked for a more educational run. Shows how to make a defect deck work with common and often seen cards in act 1, while keeping a plan ready for scaling in act 2.
These guides are gold for a noob like me. I just bought the game for Switch and I kept dying over and over with the Ironclad. Once I unlocked The Silent, I beat the game in my first run with her.
Same for me here. Im struggling with Ironclad though my friend say it is the easiest character 😂 i love Silent and Defect quite alot but im still bad at the game (constantly dying in Act 2 or Act 3 Statue Head) so im here to get more tips ❤
I got my first heart kill with the Defect. It was a powers heavy build with a mummified hand I found at a shop. The hand let me often discount powerful cards like meteor, or other strong power cards, which ended up letting me chain card after card to empty my hand. It was close, but I was able to finish it by letting the heart's multi hit proc a ton of lightning orbs to spawn.
I've only killed the heart a few times with defect. My favourite run was getting over 6 stacks of creative AI with the mummy hand relic and heatsinks -- poor guy didn't stand a chance. (And to make a terrible pun, the heart just couldn't beat it.)
Best line at 24:20 is actually killing one of the louses with strike + rebound, and then dualcast to deal 16/finish the 2nd one. Its a one turn kill with 100% percentage chance. It still happened but because of some rng luck the way it was played. Love these videos. Feels like you broke the game once more, with kunai and shuriken. xD Then the double echo form haha.
@@santipenalver3136rebound + strike does 15 which kills the 10hp (effective 13 with curl up) Louse, dual cast is then guaranteed to target and lethal the 13hp Louse. Why are you being facetious for no reason man.
To be honest, with all the energy generation possible with Defect, getting both shuriken and kunai makes winning a hell of a lot easier. Even with just kunai replacing strength with any of the claws seen would work. Crazy game.
I've been stuck with about 30 losses in a row at Ascension 13 on Defect and I beat 13 then 14 right after while watching some of your videos on Defect for the first time. Thanks!
So far, The Defect is the only Character I have beaten the heart with and actually the first character I beat a third act boss with. I beat the heart by using msny orb slots and the power that summons more power cards each turn. I am currently working on beating the heart with Ironclad. I found your channel while trying to figure out how to do that.
One key takeaway here for me was: If you have card draw you need energy. You must try to combine the two! Also: The double Hologram technique with the Turbo works very well. After rewatching and getting slightly lucky, I managed to kill The Heart on A4 ... with a very late Inserter, Frost + Lightning Orbs and a final Focus value of 26 🙂 (orange pellets helped here ... did I say "slightly lucky"? 😇 )
I was watching this video when I got my first Defect win, now I can actually challenge the heart. I had some really good synergy deck with 0 cost cards and recycling them back into my hand as well as building up shield easily and then relying on an onslaught of lightning and purple orbs for my damage. Just had such a solid run, didn't have to rest the entire time as I had cards that healed me so by the end my entire deck was upgraded cards, half of then 0 cost. The only time I lost more then half health was the final boss the two shapes but it was still an easy fight once I got the engine going. Probably the hardest character to get a run started on but if you can it might be the most fun of the three characters I've learnt so far. Just the utter card spam and lightning show every turn was so funny. Enemies always had weak, vulnerable and multi hit by lightning while I'm just fully shielded up with like another 5 cards I could play.
Isn't it smarter to use 'Strike' + 'Rebound' on the back enemy and then use 'Dualcast' to guarantee a full clear at 24:15? If the 'Dualcast' had hit the back enemy twice, then you would have taken some (minor) damage.
Just commented same thing (and deleted when I saw you already said it). Dualcast first was indeed a (small) misplay, that ended up with same result. The line you propose is guaranteed t1 lethal. Interestingly he only had t1 lethal due to that rebound he just took. If it had been a strike instead of rebound he would be one point short on damage to kill the louse in back.
Finally made it to the heart with defect for the first time and realized my entire block strategy was based on channeling frost so I very quickly died... Time for another Baalor guide
Dang! You coulda ben doin dem claws like heck man, talkin bout CLAW! CLAW! CLAW! Dang ol stackin damage goin crazy and such man... at least that's how my lizard brain talks to me when I pass up a claw, usually I see like 5 more every damn time
I just had a VERY similar starting path except the left path lead into 4 elites with the final elite being a burning elite. The other paths had 1 elite max.
I got to the heart today with an echo form, inserter and consume deck. I was blocking for over 100 each turn then it attacked for 20x12. What the heck am I supposed to do against that!
ohhh defect, im having a really hard time using this dude till i discovered the full power deck. And i got a mummified hand. I was destroying bosses in act 2, then the last boss of act 3 was that damned bird monster, killed him one time with the lightning strike shit that depends on the lightning orbs u made, 1 hit from that dude was enough to kill me
Why not apotheosis in Act 3 2nd shop? I'm guessing because a lot of your cards were already upgraded, but still something I always consider. Wondering why you didn't even mention it?
I manage to get to the heart a lot, but the heart always kills me 😔 One time I was OP and lost to the heart because of bad card draw 😢 I will never give up and o e day that corrupted heart will die ☠️☠️☠️💯

Can someone tell me what happened? I’m glad I won but kinda feel cheated out of the final fight
It is a 25% chance that both strikes hit specifically the front louse or specifically the back louse, but it is a 50% that both orbs hit the same target. Think about it like this: What the first strike hits doesn't matter, and then it is a 50% chance that the second strike hits the same louse as the first.
And that's why he wins a lot. There are other context creators that go much faster, but they don't do as well as often as he does. Watch who you like more
Because most normal runs are about an hour or so long, the harder the difficulty or goal the longer. There really is no "Do this and you will win" video, because the game is RNG based and you may never see the card you want a single time in a run or you might run into a boss that just isn't the right match for your build at the stage you are at and it will just kill you regardless. Really takes a lot of card knowledge and game sense to pull off runs like this where you can make almost any run into a good run.

Reprogram defect is an absolute blast if you can make it happen. Unfortunately I am not great at making it happen.
51:00 incredible, so rebound can make exhaust cards go back to the deck instead of the exhaust pile. this is like a mtg replacement effect
Not how it works unfortunately - that Hologram is just upgraded, Hologram+ does not exhaust. Rebound can not prevent cards from exhausting.
These guides are awesome, thank you!
