I love how Salty earns his happy ending in his debut episode, “Salty’s Secret”: because when he first arrives on Sodor he is assigned to work at a quarry with Mavis and Bill and Ben and the troublesome trucks to his dismay but quick acceptance due to being a dockyard diesel who usually works at the docks, but after working really hard better than Mavis, Bill and Ben and tricking all the trucks with his secret and completes all the work at the quarry, Sir Tompham Hatt rewards him for this by promoting him to a diesel working at Brandon Docks to Salty’s delight and works at the docks just as great as he did in the quarry.

Season 6 is a really underrated one for me, a personal favourite of mine. When the an episode is a banger it's a BANGER; Thomas and the Jet Engine, The Fogman, the Jack and the Pack episodes, Percy's Chocolate Crunch, Gordon takes a Tumble, Dunkin Duncan, World's Strongest Engine and to a lesser extent Harvey to the Rescue. Some of these are in amongst my all-time favourite episodes in the show's history, so it will always have a special place in my heart

My theory for Season 6 for not having any more action-packed stuff like in Season 5 is because it was filmed in production when the 9/11 tragedy happened in America. The team didn’t want to go too far with the Season 6 by having that stuff again like in Season 5. Hence, why there isn’t any in this season at all when it broadcasted in 2002.

@@usualblokeluke Yeah, basically Season 6 was the first Thomas season to be made after the September 11th incident. Which is likely the case on why it happened, alongside with Magic Railroad’s failure and Alec Baldwin’s divorce. All of them even changed Thomas into what he is today.

@@Ethan-ey4jx wow. That never occurred to me to this day. I was aware Baldwin went through his divorce during season 6, so his dubbing wasn’t as good as season 5. But to think the show couldn’t produce the cartoony destruction is quite something. Well Awdry did get backlash for “Whistles and Sneezes” in the Railway Series for the… derogatory term. Y’know

While I understand not liking Alec Baldwin's narration, I feel he was still overall a good successor to George Carlin, as Carlin was to Ringo. His voice is naturally very warm & he's said he enjoyed his time narrating the show, as well as working on Magic Railroad. I also like his take on Salty more than Michael Angelis'. The pirate accent makes Salty a more interesting & entertaining character than the Cockney accent, but that's just me. I need to sample more of Angelis' work, as I haven't heard a lot of it, but I like Baldwin's a lot.

Thing is about this series/season, is that due to HIT buying Gullane 2 months before Series 6 aired, is that this was the first season where it felt like certain things felt like they were introduced just to sell toys. For example, Percy's Chocolate Crunch and "Jack Frost"? One off instances that somehow got millions upon millions of Wooden Railway, Tomy, Take Along and even Ertl Merchandise. It would be the same case in Series 7, before becoming the status quo in Season 8 onward.

But even Series 6 and 7 both had a lot duds, they both fit the same criteria as Series 1-5 as “The Classic Series”. Same production team, same music, same sound effects, same 35mm camera, and the same 4 and a half minute format. Even though some of the episodes weren’t that great, they still had a lot of good episode in between too. Even if some of them were made just to sell merchandise.
If I’m not mistaken, Series 1-5 did that before sometimes. But not as much at what it came after Magic Railroad.

Series 6 however was the begining of the shows newly established agenda where multiple episodes were written with the soul purpose of merchandise, even if the episodes in question is really assinine by Thomas standards.

One fact about me and ttte season 6, When I was a kid I barely watched my ttte season 6 DVD. It was called Percy's Chocolate Crunch. There was a very good reason and the only reason why I stopped rewatching season 6 when I was a kid.
There was one episode in the Percy's Chocolate Crunch DVD Called Thomas Percy and The squeak, When Thomas was picking up Alicia and the was a mice in Annie just standing there and Alicia scream at the top her lungs and her mouth was animated, It was that at that moment I was so traumatized, And right after that Gordon made a funny line but I did not think that was funny, I was still a child at that time so I barely watched season 6 so I only watch the episodes on season 6 on RUclips or remakes.
And that was a reason why I Never really watched season 6 when I was a kid. But now that I'm much older, I don't have to worry about watching my DVDs just to see the episodes. But I definitely do not want to rewatch Thomas Percy and squeak it just gives me bad Deja vu's.

That's probably why the sets look empty, they were likely designed with the 4:3 ratio in mind. However, during production of the first 6 episodes, the UK TV standards supposedly changed from 4:3 to 16:9, and as a result, some of the shots in the first 6 episodes were filmed in 16:9, and the rest of the season would be filmed in that ratio too, aside from stock footage from previous seasons, music videos, and a rare couple of shots in the episodes themselves (see Percy's Chocolate Crunch and World's Strongest Engine as examples).

So far, my only worst episode from this season is "Middle Engine", because Sir Topham Hatt punishes Percy for something that was entirely out of his control, and Arry and Bert don't get punished for their actions. I find "Rusty Saves The Day" an okay episode, but it could've been better. I pretty much enjoyed entirely the rest of the episodes from this season. I find "Percy and the Haunted Mine" understandable, because I think Percy has every right to be scared, and by god, the scary scenes with the sinking buildings traumatized a bunch of children, which I'm pretty sure they felt the same way as Percy did in that episode.

Season 6 was one of the seasons I personally grew up with, along with seasons 4 and 5. I admit of being blinded by nostalgia, but as we grow older, we learn to accept that it isn’t hate, but fair feedback and criticism. And it’s a shame (in my opinion) that this became the downfall of a show I still hold dearly to me that I have to keep a secret of when Thomas these days is portrayed as a baby’s show when it was hard work production of models, one voiced characters, beautifully designed sets and appropriate language for a young child that’s starting to grow up.

One thing I can't understand about Season 6 is why Callan station suddenly becomes the main goods yard for a lot of the stories. In Percy's Chocolate Crunch he picks the train up from Callan to take it to the Chocolate factory which is near Brendam according to the Unlucky Tug map. Surely he should have collected the train from Brendam or Knapford instead of going all the way along Ducks branch line and then come all the way back again. The same applies to Middle Engine where he's seen travelling through Callan to reach the coaling plant which is at Tidmouth Station according to the Unlucky Tug map again. This series is good but has some major continuity errors with locations for certain episodes.
I'm also with you about Edward bullying Harvey. Especially since he was bullied by the other Tender engines in Season 1 so I'd of thought the writers would have either kept him quiet or had him try to shut the other engines up in that scene.

I mean, other than basically having a bit of a jab at just how long it'd take to recover from such a humiliating incident, they could've easily introduced the sort of founder and icon of the factory, Mr Jolly, as well as introduced an engine who'd end up working as the factory's own shunter, who could've easily been a throwback to the Cadbury no.1 shunter.

A good point. Duck would doubly want to help out Percy considering he was the first friend he made on Sodor

37:57 the thing that annoys me about that episode aside from what you said is how Percy’s driver doesn’t see the thing sink into the ground at first like how the hell do you miss that!?

Middle engine was even worse in the US dub, there is an annoying quirk in the narration editing every time the word “Coal” is said, it’s the same audio clip just cut in mid sentence, and it’s really jarring once you notice it.

I didn’t like Middle Engine when I was younger because it shocked me because of the scene when Percy was pushed on the loading ramp of the coal hopper.

This was the last season I watched as a kid, it was during season 7 I moved on from Thomas and started to be interested in other things. But season 6 is one I still look at fondly, mainly because of salty and Gordon’s crash.

Despite being a series 6 song, Little Engines only has 1 scene from season 6, but it was a deleted scene. @Usual Bloke Luke

I consider series 6 and 7 classic series simply because the new characters fit in to the universe.
