Great review TMF. I test rode this in Bangkok back to back with the BMW 850GS and S1000XR. As a tall chap I really appreciated the size and comfort of the Ducati and was very close to buying it. The quick shifter is easily the best on the market and made my Tracer GT's quick shift feel agricultural. The acceleration was also breath taking, but in the end I decided to go with the Tracer GT because in Thailand it was less than half the price of the Ducati!
I haven't regretted the decision, the Tracer is a cracking bike and that triple is so damn good. That said, if only they had Tracer MT 10. I love that engine!

Thankyou for someone finally reviewing this bike. All the major vloggers have ignored it since first hit rd 2016 and just Harped on about BMW BMW BMW or the ktms. I've had mine 18month stuck 11000 Miles on her and shes never missed a beat plus I've only ever seen another 3 on my travels but thousands of GS. Please do yourselves a favour test it before you go the Gsa route. 👍👍👍

Great ride. I bought my Triumph Explorer 1200XC new in 2013 and I've been loving it ever since. The bikes keep getting better and better but haven't improved enough to make me consider upgrading yet. It would be a more difficult choice to make now but in 2013 it was easy. Very few of the bikes had cruise control back then and the BMW GS was under-powered. I live in Central Nevada, USA (3 hours from the nearest traffic signal) with lots of long straight roads so no cruise control is a deal breaker for me.

Hi Farrell! Just got my new Tiger 1200 xrt! What a beauty!!! A heavy beauty thougth 😅😂🤣 wouldn't change it for any MS, GS, Duke... Cause it's so much more exclusive, preety, powerfull with a shaft drive! More tech! Ride safe! Greetings from Portugal 😀

Thank you for posting. Any person planning to do any kind of off-road trips would have to be very concerned about the integrated signal lights in the hand guards. Not only an extra challenge in the event a person wants to install after market guards, but I would also worry about their repair. Bike, as is typical of Ducati, is great looking. Love the aggressive bird of prey look it has in the front.

Thanks for the great review, TMF. As previous commenters have mentioned, one of the things that I notice is rarely mentioned in reviews of this type, where a bike is being compared to a GS/GSA is chain vs. shaft drive. For me, personally, the competitor to the BMW would have to have a feature set head and shoulders above to make me want to put up with the drudgery of cleaning and lubricating a chain every 600 miles.

  • @iwanevans100
    @iwanevans100 5 лет назад +2

Thanks TMF good review, the new 1260 Enduro looks to be much less top heavy than the previous 1200 Enduro which I have in Australia which when the 30 litre fuel tank if full quite twitchy when riding in slow moving town traffic. It’s expensive but less than the BMW GSA plus I prefer the engine in the Ducati would make a fantastic long distance tourer but not that practical for daily commuting, prefer the KTM Super Duke GT as it’s much more practical but admittedly not as comfortable.

  • @jolebole-yt

  • @harrymc9263
    @harrymc9263 5 лет назад +6

I had a first Gen Multistrada GT and I know what you mean about being top heavy it was a nightmare particularly as I'm a singular hight to you. I went to test the last Enduro and didn't even take it out as I just didn't feel safe it was so tall and top heavy. I ended up with a low suspension GSA which even with a full tank felt like a 250 compared to my old Multi.

Great review! I've been thinking about buying an additional bike (second hand) for my commute as I'm changing jobs and its a little bit further away than what I'm used to. The Multi 1200+ (I'm not even considering the 950!) has been on the radar for several of the reasons you mentioned, but the main one is PRICE! They aren't that much more expensive than a new/used V-Strom 1100 or a used R-GS (or even a baby BMW GS like the 750), and I love my current Monster 1100 engine and the grunt it gives. I think I'll stick with Ducati!
Also, I think I'd go for the red as well, LOL!

So, quick update on the test ride thing. I rode 136 miles to Crawley this afternoon where Will at P&H Motorcycles looked after me brilliantly. I took the Sand coloured Enduro 1260 out for nearly an hour and loved it. There is some heat coming off the V twin but the engine overall, and stability at motorway speeds, swung it for me. Now I just have to try and locate a new one in that colour scheme...

Something this big , can never really be classed as off road, on wet mud or snow or nipping between tight bushes ain’t gonna happen , your gonna end up on your arse , endurance and lots of miles as far as I’m concerned is all these are good for, guess that’s why the Enfield Himalayan is so popular amongst people who really do go round the world , but as usual great review Mr Flyer Shane uk 🇬🇧

Great review and Ducati are certianly getting there with the new Multistrada which looks impressive. Its the default brand for one of the best sportsbikes in the world but the GS/A seems to be the yard stick for adventure bikes...Both are getting expensive and the Multistrada may be a better comparison to an S1000XR ? Have you seen the Motto Guzzi V85TT yet ? Looks very interesting at a very good price...

I bought one of these 2018 1200 model. Brilliant very light once moving and easy to ride. In sports mode it's freeking ridiculously fast. I work nights and commute from Medway towns to central London and back, 86 miles and it does it seamlessly. The only problem is remembering where all the speed cameras are🤔.

I recently rode it on a adventure test ride and altough 8 miles is really small walk i was amazed by how this bike behaved..with karoo tyres on i liked how bike gaved a sense of confindence (my first ever time on multi) and how it looses completly its weight on squizing throtle.i guess old school off roaders will hate how its techs takes over really everything and really poor information comes on the rider.i needed a full day to have on this great bike to have a better opinion and to get know her better but my few klm on her were absolutely fun!!!GREAT MACHINE!!!!

Thanks for the review, brilliant as always. The MS looks very nice, but is it state of the art ? Besides the instrument display and the "rubbish" two-pot back brake I don't like the front indicators integrated into the hand guards. Typical crash parts even with a little drop on the parking and I'm sure they're not only quite expensive but you'll wait ages to get them replaced (standard mail from Borgo Panigale😉).

It's a big one; size, cc, bhp, height etc.
I think, the one size smaller might be more suitable for me; I don't need that amount of power. I'm mostly a touring guy.
Most magazine think that is the better bike of the two.
If interested, I did a tour through Belgian Limburg. Fast forward to 1h 58 m and you'll see the smallest road Belgium has to offer.

The weight difference isn't that big. The 950s with spokes has a curb weight of 235kg. Now add a skid plate, center stand and 10 additional litres of fuel.

Loved everything about the Multistrada 1260 when I rode it last week, except the engine! Turns out I'm not a fan of V-twins at all. Rode 6 different Ducatis that day and the only one I enjoyed the engine on was the V4 Panigale.
Looking forward to the new Multistrada V4 that's coming in a year or two, that will be my dream bike!

Looks like it has a centre stand which is important for a chain drive bike. Also for fixing punctures. Tubeless tyres? Hate to drop it off road in mud alone and then have to pick it up. Did that once with an R100GS with its weight down a lot lower.

Um, I have to disagree with the older Multi’s being ‘top heavy’, and the new ones have a similar feel to the previous generation in that regard, unless it was the previous Enduro model. The older engines are also much livelier, I suspect the new ones suffer from emissions control restrictions. The newer bikes have better fueling, especially at lower revs, and a better rear brake (believe it or not)
I would take the GS Adv over the Enduro, but would choose the standard Multi S over the GS.
Finally, Ducati’s should be Red. Thanks for the video TMF, very enjoyable.

If there any buzzing on handle bar and foot pegs around 5,000 rpm? I just got my 1260 Enduro upgraded with full Termignoni pipe and UP MAP. Unfortunately the buzzing (high frequency vibration) after UP MAP is simply unbearable after 20 minutes of riding above 5,000 rpm.

Testrode the Multi 950s last week, just for fun, to compare it to my 1250 GSA. 🙂
A lot of bike for the buck, but i am afraid it will not replace the beemer.
Of course, the 950 has got a smaller engine, not comparable to the GS really.
Also, there is a lot more vibrations going on. Some may like it, personally i prefer the smoothness of the GS.
And as you mention, the suspension is on the stiffer side, but not too bad.
The KTM 1290 SA is even stiffer.
Every time i ride another bike, it reminds me how much i really enjoy the comfort / smoothness of the GS' suspension and engine.
    Not to mention the ergonomics...
To turn on the heated grips on the GS, you just tap the switch with your finger, without loosening or changing the grip of your hand.
The heated grips switch on the Multi has a similar location, except it's further away from your fingers. The distance forces you to loosen your grip in order to reach it.
Small things, yes, but still something that caught my attention.
Same thing with the ride modes, the GS has a separate switch to change them, on the Multi you have to enter a menu, scroll and confirm. Not as easy as on the BMW, and the switch is placed very close to the cruise control, which makes it easy to hit the wrong button.
And as you mention, the TFT on the GS is just in another league. 😍
Riding the GS makes me think:
They've been making this bike for 40 years, and yeah, it feels like it.
I can't say that about the Multi (or the KTM).

You're talking to a GS fan here so I'm not going to argue! That said this version of the Multistrada is by far the best I've ridden so far and is a serious contender for me now the top heaviness has been addressed...

how did you manage to seat on it on a red light and not fall to the side? It has a quite high seat, definitely not for shorties. It is also equipped with quickshifter up and down, use it, it works pretty well.

I don’t know why. I have had 3 Gs and 2 other boxers with shaft drive. I have a 1290SA with almost 80,000 km on it and I’m still running original chain and sprockets. I use a Dutch Pro Oiler that has a little pump to deliver a drop of oil according to distance travelled via gps signal. I haven’t even cleaned the chain once. I can increase the frequency of drops when I’m on dirt roads(about 35% of my kilometres), or when it’s raining. Great technology is available.

I have put 6000 miles on a 2018 1260 Pikes Peak. Operatong/riding these bikes (Ducatis) are an experience. They can be a pain to live with for parts and installs but mine contrary to implied reputation has been extremely reliable. I have experience with BMWs and they r special in their own way. Check it out.

Great review again. Got a 2018 Pikes Peak and your pros and cons are spot on. Only one additional niggle for me is the throttle is sloppy at start up. Just ordered those throttle spacers you mentioned in other review to see if cure. P.s. the coupon code Missenden doesn’t work for the 2018 Multi space as it’s a new release. Get Kevin to update your details? Cheers

Have they fixed the exhaust valve issue? I had two new multi’ in 2017 and both had valve get stuck every 2k or so. When it worked - best bike I have ever owned - broke down a lot though if used all year - so much I had two bikes refunded.

Lovely looking bike, owned one of the first 1200 Multistradas in the country way back in 2011. You would pick red though wouldn't you? Not a fan of sand, or indeed any matt paints. No doubt a great touring tool but too expensive for me with too many gadgets I don't need. As for keyless...... I hate it on all bikes.
