Probably the most misunderstood digital synth of all time: the Kurzweil. Where in your average rompler you have a rompler. Here, any sampled instrument is an oscillator in an elaborate digital modular synthesizer architecture. Oh and it sounds fantastic and comes with that KDFX effects architecture (as good as classic Lexicon/Eventide). Great demo Daniel.
Thank you for this! The best K2700 demo video out there. Most spend too much time on the piano and organ sounds. I finally realize the true versatility of this instrument.
I own a K2000 and a K2661. it would be nice to see a 61-note version of this syth but I'm definitely considering buying this 88 K2700. And thank you Daniel for this great demo. And Sweetwater definitely gets an A+ in customer service, you guys are the best! 😊
Synthesizers could really fix their lack of good string patches by simply having solo strings in non vibrato to vibrato using the mod wheel, high velocity triggers staccato, and portamento bending in solo mode, then layer that with section strings if you need a section. Of course, this is why Kurzweil let's you make your own patches.
Would love to see Kurz revisit the VA1 synth. Yes it’s in here, and other boards, but it’s laid out in a workstation format rather than a knobby synth. Generally would love to see Kurz use it’s engine in more creative ways beyond workstations and stage pianos.
That would be nice but VA1 is available in its entirety in VAST. Which is to say you have to build it like a modular. Bit of a pain at first but when you get the hang of it, it is less of a pain. This is a small company that's obviously going down the road of incremental improvement. It's good to see them put out some stuff. Vast engine sounds great. One of the best sounding digital engines of all time probably. But there are drawbacks. Like with anything I guess :).
This I know. I had a PC3. Yes when you learn your way around it it’s less of a pain, but still a pain, and not easier than a dedicated knobby synth. I think if they rolled the dice it could open a whole new market to them. Synths are bigger than ever right now. How many variations on the theme of workstation do we really need? I guess the same could be said for synths. I also think that their relatively smaller size compared to the big three can lend them a little more wiggle room to take chances as they’re not expected to be putting out the same stuff all the time.
I like Kurzweil because they don't sound artificially digital. Not a knock on other workstation manufacturers. But the K series keyboards just have a warmth to their sound.
Can't tell yah how nice it is to see Mr. Fisher back on a Kurzweil!! VAST Master! That need to be on a coffee mug for him! 😁 btw, WHY did they do away with the arrange mode of the sequencer?😔
If I buy a K2700 and make loads of sounds for my band on it, can I then make a backup of the keyboard and load it into another K2700? So it’s basically a clone? I’m going on tour next year and the hire company can supply a 2700 for me
You can spend all your time figuring out what sounds to use on that. I play guitar and bought a sound compressor to play on. I still had to buy a pedal for heavy metal and a whammy pedal. It's nice though.
Can this keyboard be reverted so I can play right hand part of a melody with left hand and vice-versa? Also, does it allow setting notes to keys, so I can make a mirrored keyboard at D4, for example, to play the same pattern with the same fingers over the same notes in right and left parts of keyboard?
Division Bell is not VAST sound at all, but they sampled Rick Wrights old analog synths, like Moog, Farfisa, Solina into the K2000 they used filters and stuff inside the machine. Without those classic synths, nobody will never sound like 90s Pink Floyd lol
Why don't these program numbers listed in the Demo match up with what I have in my K2700? And some of them, like 'Arp Orchestra' doesn't even exist in my K2700. In my K2700, program 373 is "AgressoBassiDiv"

Can those 32 layers be used as a "modal synthesis" environment, to send a short burst of noise to 30 parallel keyboard-tracked bandpass resonant filters?
If I understand correctly, yes, each of the 32 layers can have its own noise and key tracked bandpass filter. That layer can then be assigned to one or more keys. -_Daniel_
@@sweetwater Thank you but my question is if one layer can send a short burst of noise and 31 layers receive that noise on their inputs, doing different filters on it.
@@markom1976 i don’t own Kurzweil, but from what I read, they call it “cascading”: sending output from any layer to other layers. And I am pretty shure you can send sound form one layer to many others, don’t know If you could to it to all 32 layers or if there are some limits to that.
@@markom1976 as I understand vast engine, on every layer you can have a sample, dsp block and fx block. Both dsp block and fx block are configurable. Yes, that’s the mane problem from today’s Kurz Products. I had a PC4/7 and sold it after one Year, because of the so outdated Sounds. Also the piano sounds were not that what they had been in the last Kurz Flagships, no lasting Quality at all.
