Always Watching - give your lands vigilance, so that a swing still allows you to tap for mana on your second main phase and beyond. The lands aren't tokens.
Hey I love your videos - you have this amazing ability to take a somewhat meh looking legendary creature and make the coolest decks. Keep up the great work!
Noyan was my first build in standard (mostly awaken stuff) then after rotation adding terra eternal and gift of imortality made insane fun. Gifts on hal. Tide caller and noyan with planar outburst (temp killing Hal. And returning outburst) always a win
Darksteel Garrison is actually an amazing pick. Swing wih the Forifies/Awakened land and you get it pumped for an extra damage. Throw in all he unap spells you have (Dramatic Reversal, To Arms! etc.) and I can see a big ol swing to face
I would add ramp that does cost reductions instead of taps for mana; you can use it with whir of invention to get a better artifact, and it combines with that aformentioned awaken mechanic as well as buyback. Oh, and view from above; combine with a cost reduction, it's a one-mana instant that constantly goes back to your hand. Great at end step before your turn, also helps to make your creatures flying.
Your Mirrorwave tricks sadly doesn't work as described. When you copy a permanent, you only look at the printed characteristics of the card - which does not include being a 0/0 creature. But you still do get an interesting effect with mirrorwave - all your opponents' creatures become lands for the turn! This can either work as a slightly weird "all your creatures are unblockable" effect, or you can play politics and give somebody a lot mana for a turn.
I know this is two years old, but a card I think is really nice with Mirrorweave is Contested War Zone. All of your opponents creatures become lands with “When you hit my with your creatures, you take control of me.” And then at End of Turn, they turn back and are safely under your control.
I loved my Noyan deck as well. Group didn't like how reactive and slow it was to win so I took it apart. Now I have no idea which way to transition it.
I kinda think it has to be slow and reactive to work. It's surprisingly fragile if you play recklessly. Luckily it plays great spells. What direction would you want to take? You could try a Shu Yun build. Still a spells deck but plays TOTALLY differently.
Jumbo Commander I have my shu yun deck in a deckbox that looks like an actual sensei's divining top. It's too easy to make him dirty voltron though so I don't advise it :P
nathones If you are wanting land creatures, I have an awesome deck I built for this strategy. It's 5 colors, but freaking bomb. Here's the link: tappedout.net/mtg-decks/faun-of-the-undead-flora/
I love Noyan Dar -- It's such a unique strategy and can get out of control really quickly. My only possible recommendations could be Always Watching (For all out attacks with your lands) and Abzan Battle Priest (Lifelink Lands! Landlink? Lifeland?). No Sphinx's Revelation though? Not even for the tryhard points?
Haha, I'd be up for a Sphinx's Rev. It always feels so good to resolve one. I personally use Heliod for my vigilance effect. It does not have a buff like always watching but I like having something to do with my mana when I hold up counterspells and have nothing I want to counter. Great suggestions!
Try gruesome slaughter. For 6 colorless mana, you can tap your lands to deal their power to any creatures you want without damaging them. Because the awakened lands are not assigned a color upon their creation, they legally count as colorless so colorless synergy also works here
Mirrorweave doesn't quite work like that, it just turns all creatures into copies of the base land unfortunately. Clone style effects only copy what is printed on the card. Though, it still have some fun interaction like Animating a Contested War Zone then Mirrorweave to gain control of all Creatures.
You are correct ... and I am sad. Gatherer has rulings confirming the sad truth: "This effect can cause each other creature to stop being a creature. For example, if you target an animated Mutavault (a land with an activated ability that turns it into a creature), only the printed wording will be copied -- the “becomes a creature” effect won’t. Each other creature will become an unanimated Mutavault." Sorry to get everyone's hopes up and THANK YOU for pointing out the error.
RudyJSC so if I Mirrorweave, say, a 2/2 animated forest, then all other creatures will become copies of that forest and become lands? If so, would the same work for a command tower?
@@JumboCommander It certainly isn't as good as I thought it was. But it still holds a slot in my Noyan Dar deck as a finisher, removing all of my opponents creatures for a round. Just got to be careful not to ramp my opponents!
Sword of the animist and Crucible of worlds were my first thoughts for that strategy :-) Maybe Basilisk Collar to protect you a little more? The idea itself is cool because it's totally different to anything I came across in EDH until now :-D
How about adding an academy rector? So many cool enchantments in the deck. A Mind's Dilation could be interesting as well - free spells from your opponents to upgrade your lands (expensive to cast, but powerful effect)
Could you possible do a commander deck based around the prowess and/or heroic ability. Pumping up your creatures with instants and sorceries while having them simultaneously buff themselves. Just though about it when you were showing monastery mentor in this deck.
I made a Shu Yun the Silent Tempest deck right when he was released. It was a fun deck (although very focused on winning in one specific way). I would love to revisit him. Great suggestion.
I used to run a casual deck (technically modern but i didnt know that was a thing back then as i was new to magic) with battlewise hoplite, monastery mentor and soulfire grandmaster. even though its a relatively new set i still get all nostalgic seeing cards from khans and fate
i like him, i have counterspells against bordwipes, instants are awesome, also instant carddraw, because they always expect a counterspell, its cool :) and its very dangerous :p
I know it's a bit late to comment but i am curios to know if this deck can be a first time control heavy deck because i never played a full control deck but this seem very intresting and i am curios to try it sooooooo.... what have you to say about it?
I really think it can because it is more of a "tap out" control style. Honestly there are better control commanders out there but I think that classic control decks are very difficult to play, they are hard to navigate politically , people hate getting their stuff countered, you are constantly performing threat assessment, it's a very different play style. This deck is not as strong but you do not constantly have to have an answer. Sometimes you just cast 4 cantrips and make a 12/12 land and bash. I hope that helps describe the playstyle a little better.
this is a great vid man. I just hope your tapped out link doesnt include all the foils coz i really wanna see if the price range for this deck is within my budget. asides from that , cheers!
I hear you. I usually don't include the foils or exact editions but I copied this list from my personal deck ... which means I was lazy and kept most of the cards the same. I'll keep this in mind for the future. Cheers
@Jumbo Commander, was thinking of throwing noyan dar into a 5 color Horde of Notions elemental deck because of his awakening ability, any tips for a 5 color deck?
Horde has some great synergies. My favorite is crib swap! I think Noyan would be a solid addition. He'll go well with Angry Omnath and Titania making all your lands really matter. Cool build idea!
Teferi's response doesn't seem great because mostly people won't target your 3/3's they'll go for better things on board. Boardwipes seem like more likely thing.
You may be able to force the issue. Stack all your counters on one land to make a single huge elemental ... then wait to blow them out! But you are right I fear boardwipes FAR more but I can't turn down that value!
Always Watching - give your lands vigilance, so that a swing still allows you to tap for mana on your second main phase and beyond. The lands aren't tokens.
I love the nonland matters theme. It's super clever.
Hey I love your videos - you have this amazing ability to take a somewhat meh looking legendary creature and make the coolest decks. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I too thought he was just an interesting limited card but now he is one of my preferred control commanders. I promise more videos to come!
Awesome video. This deck is so fun and no one expects a land to turn into a threat so fast.
After 4 years I enjoy your stuff!
I have wanted to do noyan dar for sooooo long but couldn't work a deck out. thanks a lot for this it seems extremely fun
Late to the party on this guy. But I’m glad there’s a few fun builds for the deck.
you sir, continue to impress, really makes me want to finish off my halfdane deck...but oh what to cut out XD
Me: "Give up, opponents. I have the high ground!" *plays Halimar Tidecaller* :D
This deck is ridiculous in the best possible way
Noyan was my first build in standard (mostly awaken stuff) then after rotation adding terra eternal and gift of imortality made insane fun. Gifts on hal. Tide caller and noyan with planar outburst (temp killing Hal. And returning outburst) always a win

I was waiting for a section on blue's many "untap your lands" effects, or some vigilance.

@@valkan7148 Wow! That is really cool and really mean :D
Nice find.

Crucible of Worlds seems like a stong addition to this deck. Just as a safety valve if you fail to protect your lands from a wrath.
Great call!
Please create a Jhoira deck for next week :D
Equinox?!?! That's just genius.

My Noyan Dar is a bit different in that I run Polymorph effects and only big creatures for guaranteed value.
Polymorph is a great effect. Proteus staff is one of my favorite cards.
I used tafaris response to counter nicol bolas ability it was halarious
+Jordan Hardwick it is one of the most satisfying blowouts ever, I love that card in this deck even if it only works 1 in 5 games.
i would like to see you make a Rith, the Awakener EDH deck :)
How about adding an academy rector? So many cool enchantments in the deck. A Mind's Dilation could be interesting as well - free spells from your opponents to upgrade your lands (expensive to cast, but powerful effect)
My version does have a Mind's Dilation because ITS AWESOME! I think an Academy Rector to fetch my new favorite enchantment would be fitting.
instead of Baral I use Curious Homunculus, may upgrade to Baral when he rotates out of standard
+Chance Becker I agree. I'm waiting for rotation to get a Baral for my Mizzix deck

Throw a Gleam of Authority in there. Can RKO people with Noyan Dar
Niblis of frost would be neat
I love both Noyan Dar and Talrand, but I think the group would hate me if I played Talrand?
+Mike Zanin that has been my exact experience. Plus you can play monetary mentor in this build and he's a hilarious spellslinger card.
@Jumbo Commander, was thinking of throwing noyan dar into a 5 color Horde of Notions elemental deck because of his awakening ability, any tips for a 5 color deck?

Tech 4 my bby Veeeeelaaaaa =D!
All is dust doesn't read nonland permanents, wouldn't you end up sacking your lands too?
lands dont have a color
Stebin ActingDa'Mickey he's right lands as a rule don't inherently have a color unless another card gives them one
Ahh I did not know that
Coldeyes spotlight please.. please please please please
Which art do you like better? I can't decide she is such a badass! I'll give her a look.
Jumbo Commander umm the new art and Jhiora is also something I never knew about
coooooool
mirroweave on monastery mentor
the dream
im sooo sad because mirrorweave doesnt work :c
dumb rules xD

Noyan Dar, more like Annoyan Dar
bless n hi
silenced hippie music!
Need to stop watching your videos...your brews are very very cool! I just cannae afford to build all of them lol
I have too many decks ... it's a problem. I'll make a budget brew for everyone soon :)
Jumbo Commander lol. I have that same problem. I have 14 decks and counting. Its an addiction. Seriously. Help.
