6 hour endurance race. BUT! The 5 slowest cars (least laps) are eliminated at the end of the hour. 30 car field is cut to 10 cars for the final hour.
Edit: Eliminated cars are then crushed by monster trucks during the pit time. BOOM. Keeps car costs down. Also, no eliminations after the first hour. So everybody gets to pit once.

agreed, 6 is a little to short. maybe 8 or 10. 8 is your typical work shift. 2 drivers can bang out 4 each. Would be able to do it during daylight and have spectators out. 8 hours on a saturday can make for one hell of an event!

@@IAMBrandon_JNI actually disagree. Some of the folks that would help sell this event out and be participants are those with regular jobs. 6 hours is a doable weekend trip.
But honestly, I think if it’s a 30 car field, limit it to 15 RUclipsrs that have 100K+ subs. That way the smaller more normal guys that would run this kind of a race have a chance of being chosen to participate.
Plus when you get to 8 hours plus for time, spectators are gonna get tired, sleepy, cranky, kids are gonna throw fits and have everyone around them bitching. And refreshment costs are REALLY gonna go up with a longer race like that.

Maybe look at Champcar Endurance racing rules. Max size limit for fuel tank. Mandatory pit/driver change every 2 hrs. 4 man driving team max. Magnet timer starts (stuck on car) at beginning of pit lane, with a minimum pit time (usually plenty of time to fuel, change driver, change tire, minor repairs, etc) Champcar runs 10hrs Saturday, and 7-8 hrs Sunday. Add 2 days points together for a weekend total. Gives guys a chance for major repairs overnight. Team I helped on has swapped transmissions. Other teams have items machined and welded overnight at local shops. Lots of fun. I cant wait to watch whatever you decide to do. Wish I lived closer. Keep up the great work.

Do it like lemon rules, excluding safety stuff the car can’t exceed a certain cost.
The overall winner gets to buy any car on the grid for the value they registered it as, so if they tell porkies about how much it costs and they don’t win? They’ll lose their car AND money
Also the whole B-S demerit scheme should be implemented,

Hey Cleet! Consider 3x 8HR races!!!
Call it the MAD tournament. (Midnight, Afternoon, Day) all the shift working viewers will love it!
Teams need 3 drivers to complete as many laps as they can in 3 races.
-Day 1 , midnight race goes 11p-7a, they get 8hr downtime to fix stuff
-Day 2, Afternoon race goes 3-11p, again 8hr of downtime
-Day 3, Day race goes 7a-3p
If a team completely breaks their car (trans/engine go boom), they get to bring a backup car BUT can only swap out between days. Team with the most laps at the end of the 3 races wins.

Cleeter, 12 or 24 hours is a real endurance race, you can make a system were only the laps under "21 seconds" (its a random number) counts so you automatically avoid slow cars, also you put 2 weight limits a minimun "dry with driver" and a maximun "full tank" with these you avoid 200 gallons tanks (also with the time cut you avoid that because a too much heavy car will not make the cut). I'm an race marshall since 34 years ago here at Argentina, anything i can help with rules or regulations, safety and so i'll be really glad to help. Podium hugh from Tucuman Argentina! I definitely like the 1) maximum tank size. 2) Eliminate slowest (2 or other number) every hour. 3) Half hour "lunch break" halfway through race and switch directions when coming back. 4) Only 6cyl or only 8cyl. 5) Cheap bonus of $1500 +/- for fastest lap end of every hour (must not be eliminated though). 6) Viewer vote of favorite racer, winner gets $5000 +/- bonus (End of race)
Regardless of what this becomes, always going to watch and support ya Cleeter!

I like the idea of 'fastest lap'. But throw in this, the fastest lap can only be won once. The next hour it has to be someone else. If the same person was fastest in the second hour, they don't win. The second fastest would win. Third hour, the winners of the first and second are not eligible. Nor the third for the fourth hour, etc. It spreads the winnings around.

Check out the IMSA rule book. There are probably a lot of standardization rules they use to even up a field. Also, you should do classes just like IMSA to separate the V8s and V6s (maybe I6s as well). The difference in fuel consumption and obviously power is too great between those two engine types. Run a multi-class field where they all run at the same time.

First off, turn that big ol field out front into a rallycross track. You ever seen a galaxie go offroading? It's magic!!
As to your issue with slow cars coming out to an endurance, teams have to qualify with a minimum average time and maintain it through the competition. Say a crown Vic averages a 21 sec time so then they can't sand bag. Gas has to be in a factory tank or specific size fuel cell.

As a sports car & road racing official, I'd highly recommend the 5 minute minimum pit stop for the sake of safety. Also:
    - Different classes for 4 cylinders/V6/V8 - Overall & class wins
    -Mininum weight & displacement limits
    - Saftey equipment being a must - (rollcage/firesuits/fire surpression maybe)
    - 2 to 3 drivers per car, minimum of a 6 hour race. 3-5 for anything longer (12/24 hours)
    - 1 Mandatory Pit stop at the halfway point (30-60 minute Halftime period)
    - Time Penalties should anyone commit some argy-bargy
    - Grid walk for the fans before the start of the race
    - Driver autograph sessions for the fans during the weekend
    - Maddy's Porsche could be used as the Saftey Car
    - The winners recieves a memorial watch, for racing around the clock - Not quite a Rolex, but a step up above a Timex
Basically some of these iseas are in bigger series like IMSA, which just had the 12 Hours of Sebring thats not too far away from you.
Champ Car, SCCA, NASA, & the 24h Series have several examples of how it's done
    Just some examples

Whatever you do, make it a 2 x 6 hour event (or similar) across two days - it'll massively help with streaming numbers and also help teams repair cars. Just from the nature of it, it'll be a process of elimination via attrition instead of actual racing.
On the pit stop side of things, FWIW, even at Nurburgring 24 hr they have pit stop minimum times in place for safety. So even at a pro level they do it. There's pretty big penalties in place for breaking that rule for that reason. Limit fuel tank size, mandate minimum pit stop times and make it so you have to take X amount of pits stops - this then forces some level of strategy. Have a max team size of say 4-5 people. Someone further down mentioned about Champcar Championship rules and I agree.

If you have a vic, impala, towncar, buick, whatever. 4 doors, sedan, v8 motor, factory or dropped in, no turbos or superchargers, unless you want that and then all will have to have them (I would say all supercharged). 6 hours isnt enough. A lot of smart rules will be required to prevent people from trying to be “smart” themselves but still leave room for interesting racing. Here are some I’ve seen in similar events.
    1. Set a max size for the fuel tank(or max amount of fuel that can be put in the car) - that way pit stops will happen but will allow for strategy depending on how much your car burns instead of fixed pitstop every hour. Not everyone will rush to the pit simultaneously. Maybe also set total fuel for the whole race to keep faster & slower cars/driver closer to each other
    2. 100% min pitstop time as you said. Even professional racing series do that in the name of safety (and budget)
    3. To finish you must drive to the checkered flag. No banging super fast laps then breaking down/resting for hours.
    4. Set max consecutive stints for a single driver. Average out the drivers in a team. No carrying to victory by one driver.
    5. Set an average lap time for the race. Not sure how this will work. Hopefully no slow vehicles on track. Also maybe strategy to choose when to push.

I like the idea from some other comments about eliminating the last spot at the end of every hour.
Make it the last 2, they fight for pole for 3-5 laps, call em last hope laps, whoever stays out front stays, the other gets the 1-555-YER-DONE tow job.
If someone else that's not bottom 2 is out front, then they're both eliminated.
Might get someone sandbagging for last to move up so have the one who gets to stay drop back to the back
IDK, gets complicated but sounds like a good time.

You have to think about what would Smokey Yunick do to win? The guy was a master getting around the rules.
Probably the 3 biggest things you can do 1) have a set budget (like 8k aside from safety equipment) and 2) have a set engine horsepower (ex: 300 hp) and 3) an aftermarket fuel tank that holds 5 gallons. Having these in place should help with an even playing field. It'll give people room to add performance parts to their cars but anything over 300 hp gives you a 10 second late start from the back, so from 301 to 305 hp you get a 10 second late start from 306 to 310 20 seconds, 311 t0 315 30 seconds, anything over 315 is disqualified.

What if you come at this from a different angle. Our local Dirt Track used to have a 2 times a year race called an Enduro. Its a "run what you brung" kind of race. Everything from 4 cylinder bangers to V8 monsters. If a car died or wrecked the race was stopped to clear the driver and the car was left on the track. For time, these were limited to 100 laps. The Freedom Factory is the same length track, 3/8th mile. If my math is right 500 miles is 1,334 laps, with an average of 60 mph per lap, that would be 8 hours of driving. I say let people bring what every car they want, do your 5 minute pits, and cap the car value at $1,500 saftey equiptment excluded. Stock engines only, only one set of tires. One more thing, get enough cars to fill the whole front stretch. More cars, more mayhem, more obsitcals.

10hr race, makes for a full day of laps being put down, 15-30min brake at hour 5 for vehicle/driver cool down (don't want any issues with health), plus that gives the track team to assess the track, field, cars, and most importantly laps! A race for endurance but also who is the fastest on track. Lap times should go into factor as well! Hopefully this helps! Love ya brother and may you figure this out so we all can enjoy!

Some rules they run in other endurance races are that, say in a team of 2, each driver needs to do at least 1/3 of the time in the car, and there's no double stinting. Stops a really fast driver staying in the car for too long, but also makes sure drivers have a rest.

    My suggestions are the following:
Limit the size of fuel tanks in the cars
No scheduled pit stops, force them to be strategic
Don't ban cars on other grounds than safety
For a safe pit area: Have a minimum pit time and an extremely low speed limit in the hot pit. Less than 10mph. Also force them to use a safe refueling rig.
To even out the race field, you could set a limit on power to weight ratio. Also limit tire sizes.

    • @MrJamesBanana
      @MrJamesBanana 5 месяцев назад +1

For suggestions on power to weight ratio calculations, you could have a look at "SSK Klass 3" from Sweden, and just set a ratio you like. That series contains everything from a BMW M1 Sauber with a nascar engine, to a extremely tuned Volvo 240. And it's close racing. For endurance, bump those power numbers down a fair bit.

    • @MrJamesBanana
      @MrJamesBanana 5 месяцев назад

Also, to make sure there is safe racing: Either have the teams stop in the pit for penalties, or just deduct a number of laps. If unsafe driving costs 10 minutes in the box of shame, hopefully most drivers will behave.

  • @greasebeardsgarage

You could use the buy it for $X,XXX rule. You set some limit of say $25,000 and, if you enter your car, any competitor can offer to buy it for that dollar amount. Keeps someone from entering anything too nice into the race, but still nice enough that it could get interesting.
I'd also recommend requiring real cages in all entered vehicles. Safety third...or something like that.

I would recommend 12 hours, with 1.5hr pit windows. 1.5 hour windows will be long enough to prevent people from being able to go balls-to-the-wall in pure race cars, as GT cars (and most road race cars) will usually get around 1 hour per stint. 12 hours will dissuade people from taking their Porsches, McLarens or Lambo's on the track, as risk outweighs reward at that point.

If your looking at about 6 hours it would be worth looking at the Bathurst 1000 and GT3/GT4 Bathurst 12 hour races for some inspiration around the rules. The Bathurst 1000 is nearly a 161 sprint race now but that's after 70-80 years of learning how to make the cars go that fast for that far.
Edit: I think some of what the 12 hour did in 2023 is a good idea. Minimum pitstop lengths depending on what you need to do might help to make it safer for inexperienced pit crew and lessen the gap between pros and beginners in that area, eg. must stand still for so many seconds if you need to do tyres. Maybe no time restriction for fuel (so fuel saving can be an advantage) but for safety the car must be still while the fuel is being added and all fueling methods would need to be identical so no one can add more fuel quicker.

I would run an 8 hour race as fans in attendance can sit through it, and people could have parties at their house for friends to watch the PPV (all very doable or just a party at the end of the race for the lightweights). Race would be 4 x 2 hour stages and each car would be allocated 20 gallons of E85 fuel to run each stage and cars which cannot make it into the pit after 1 hr 50 min without external assistance would be DQ'd. There would be a 10 minute mandatory pit at the end of each stage that can extend into the next stage for cars with repairs needed. Cars not able to return to the race within 10 minutes into the next stage would be DQ'd. Minimum displacement of 280 CI ,any format, any induction boosted or not. Could make it interesting and say no driver can compete in more than 1 or 2 stages (I would prefer no more than 1). I would not do the claiming race BS but I would do some leveling like only allow a certain tire brand and size down to the very specific diameter, profile and width, and make it something a street car would typically drive on. Similarly I would mandate a very specific shock absorber front and rear, like Monroe Matics normally put onto a Ford Excursion 4WD (these are the shocks with the greatest travel in the Monroe Matic brand and would be tough to adapt to a Mazda Miata or Porsche 911 Turbo Carerra. If you see someone who looks like they have the wrong shocks just make them buy a new set from you after tech but before the race and make them trade you, same with the tires, if you see some without the nubs from the mold on them make them buy a new set from you. This makes the rules easier because you only make sure they are not cheating on a few important things and all the rest is left to innovate with. You could do all the fueling as the cars come out of the pits to line up for each stage, limiting shenanigans on fuel. Don't allow the teams to bring in any fluids or containers with fluids into the pits either, make them get them from you. These are just some ideas to make the race easy to administer, interesting to us average Joes and Janes and reasonably priced to compete in for the race teams. Thanks for asking.

My first thought about the 5 min pit after an hour is it either must be required by all to stop or, you can skip the stop, but you cannot pit till the next scheduled stop. That would be a challenge. During the race, if it becomes apparent that most people are skipping stops and making it to the next stop, maybe adjust the “rules”.😂

    Freedom of le-lemon.
Sounds real fun. Defo would watch that. Make the slowest driver have a shot of lemon juice after each hour 😂😂

A maximum fuel-up amount cripples teams and evens the playing field. A lot of 24hr races do that, and it makes endurance racing very interesting. A car can have a 20 gallon cell but can only fill up 7 gallons every pit, stuff like that.

I think limiting the overall number of entrants to a sane number to keep the racing clean and safe and them using the drag strip as a qualifier is a brilliant idea. It keeps the action awesome because you're gonna need a big HP monster to qualify, but that doesn't always translate to a great circle track car, so things would be fun to watch.
I approve of the pit stop rules so far, and I would measure and limit every car refill to whatever size fuel tank it came with stock. I believe that should prove plenty sufficient for an hour or even two of running which should be interesting because with the way the pit stop rules are looking you could potentially have a lot of strategy with actually adding LESS fuel than the max to reduce weight but still try and make it to the end.
Tires- I think you should probably introduce some kind of limitations on the treadwear etc of the tires allowable.

I love the idea of this, your idea for a mandatory pit every hour with a set 5 min time is smart. From surfing comments and thinking about it a bit on my own I have this:
    - Last place at the end of every hour during pit stop is eliminated, would prevent sandbagging.
    - Fastest laps in each segment/after each pit stop would give a bonus to the team in someway, incentivizing teams to push to be the fastest.
    - Fan Boost/Votes, fans can vote real-time to award their favorite team a temporary advantage, such as a shorter pit stop or something.
    - Possibly set max/min weight limits on cars.
    - Possibly set a time threshold so only laps completed under a certain time are counted, preventing sandbagging while encouraging speed & consistency.
    - Possibly limit max fuel tank size
    - Possibly limit amount of people on a driving team, e.g. 4 people.

The 5 minute pit rule is good. You could make it a everything allowed type event, like a group B rally. That would be awesome to see and it will never get old.

Aussie V8 endurance have 12h race, 10 compulsory pit stops with mandated minimum time, driver time limits for stint and overall race, pit lane speed limits,
Minimum engine capacity would help even the field.

Great idea! Maybe shoot for 10-12hrs. You’d have a good mix of speed vs long game. Limit the fuel to 20 gallons. I like the idea of “stage brake” pit stops, maybe make it every 2hrs. Freeze the field so people aren’t rushed in the pits even with the time out. The 2hrs and 20gal tanks would bring some fuel management strategy into play. The 10-12hr endurance would test parts durability. Make it so you had to swap a driver every 2hrs. Then after 2 2hr stints (4hrs) the first driver could go back in. Keep rotating through the drivers. That would keep the drivers rested while only needing 3 drivers. Keeping the safety factor up. Limit it to v8s/v6s. Allow some boost on the v6s. That opens it up to 3800 supercharged/turbocharged applications. Just some spitballing off the top of my head.

Do a standard 8 hour work day race. You have to pit a minimum of once every hour for at least 5 minutes. Every pit is 5 minutes no matter how many you have done in that hour. After 4 hours everyone meets in the middle of the track for a 30 minute lunch break. Their crew can work on their car during that time. After the lunch break you switch directions on the track. Cars would be something you would commute in, daily drive or a work truck/van.

suggestions: Couples driver team only. Most laps with an efficiency multiplier. Slowest gets eliminated every 5 laps.

One race idea I have had since about the time you got the FF , Camaro-Mustang-Challenger. 2005-2020 people get copart hail damage cars or mild crashed .. you would want a a displacement cap so people don’t bring hellcats ,, it could even be a chance for use up the 6cyls .. now , you can get the cars more equal by giving the slower more tire ..

I definitely think that it shouldn't be just an oval race. Im sure you can add a few more turns in with the inner loop. Also maybe have separate classes. V-6 V-8 etc. Would have to break down the total price amount per class. That could be for the next race if this one turns out well. I think longer than 6 hours for sure, as many stated. Fuel tank size restrictions definitely, and maybe tire limit as well. Only allow each team x amount of tires.

I think you should do a 6 hour endurance.Riding lawn mower race At the freedom factory. It would be a true test of endurance!
