Trey: "And when I played at Bonnaroo with my 10-piece band, we did two covers, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and "Sultans of Swing." In both songs, I had the horn section play the guitar solos, note for note. I never would have thought of doing that if I hadn't seen Zappa do "Stairway To Heaven" in Burlington with the horns playing Jimmy Page's entire guitar solo, in harmony. "

Great to see an old friend smiling again, and really enjoying himself; back in touch with old friends and family. I Love the new record. Love to Sue and the girls, and to you... who would have thunk it ! I'm so happy for you
Yeah, but his was a little bit different, his had humbuckers. The story with Trey's is that that guitar was a gift from a member of the band The National, shortly before tracking Traveler. The guitar you hear on Traveler is that jag exclusively. I believe it is a 64 Custom Shop in Maroon Mist.
Inspired decision, kind of ragged in execution. The original is so ironic -- lyrics describing a sound a simple guitar band -- albeit with a great picker---can't recreate. Was wondering if anybody had tried an arrangement with horns.
It takes a lotta work to F up such a great song.......Sounded like a mix between my old high school band and a local talent contest. I am not a hater but Trey, you are a professional. Some things should not be seen......!
+Needles923 It doesn't sound like a high school band or local talent contest, you just disliked the performance and now sound overly pretentious because not every performance of a specific song is apparently able to live up to your astronomically high standards.
You missed the point. The concept of the arrangement was the horn section played the guitar part. That is an interesting variation on the original version, You might have noticed that if you cared enough to listen closely.
Not Trey's finest moment. The whole thing sounds ragged, except for the horns bringing something at the end. Thing is Knopfler fans know this song too well to be seduced by a .40 cent knockoff. I expect better, Trey.
That was shameful , what guitar god busts our sultan for a final and doesn’t take care of business . Fact is , he couldn’t , but guess what . If Garcia did , what do you think would’ve happened .. let the “horn section” take it ,,, nope 😂. He actually wouldve given the people their money’s worth . 👍
Trey delivers the joy of music...
he's a gift from God

Rest easy James. You'll be forever missed.
For fucks sake, I can't believe I am just now finding out about his passing. Absolutely devastated to learn about this.
@@TobiasSmith-u9bhe was an amazing musician.
Thanks for uploading. Going to watch this 'til the end of time.
The sound in the room is phenomenal , great show , great venue , great time !!!
Ernie get to stepping homeboy!! Love you!
OMG amazing TROMBONE!
Happy b-day, Trey!
Thank you LTTKMT! ;-)
Love the Cap and u can tell that Trey really enjoys the venue as well
So many critics! The man took a chance and had fun doing it. Kudos to Trey and the band. Better sound quality would have helped immeasurably.
i love this
Love it
I was there, second row and I swear to god Trey looked right at me!
Music begins at 2:14
I, on the other hand, totally appreciated ending on the horns... Nice :)
Good for you
@@michaelcox2206?
Yeah the horn pass at the end was smokin’
TAB did a great job with this tune at bonnaroo 2004!
fuckin' love that - esp. the horns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wowsa.
Can’t believe the hate! As good as anyone could do it plus their own twist! And the horns did the solo cause Trey doesn’t wanna have all the fun!
Face it will , it was awful , and he pussed out ,, hard . That’s the reality
Glad you liked it Will. The horns did the solo because trey wanted to try that. Overall not a great cover. Phish had talent back in the 90s.
@@brucea550 As an appraiser of talent, whats your level? ( of talent - not appraisal expertise)
@@keithkessler706 If your implication is that it requires talent to appraise talent, that’s incorrect.

TREY, YOU ARE the Sultan of "modern day" Swing! :)
Great to see an old friend smiling again, and really enjoying himself;

He enjoy himself
Look our cover
is that max weinberg on the drums?
So many trolls, even on TAB. I guess haters gonna hate. Ty OP
a+++
Is that a Gibson behind Trey? Ghost would be proud.
You mean the Fender Jag?
My bad. Didn't Cobain play a Jag?

Honey Boo Boo!!
We are all real people
Looks like Trey was getting back into the opiods....can u explain the itches?
sheisanartist the man was itchy!
I love TAB but come on how the hell is trey gonna do sultans of swing and not do the solo?? And trey of all people??? Uhhh
He should have taken the last solo, instead of the horns, I would just like to hear him shred it like the original. JMO
Hah! Chick horn players owned that final signature riff(!)
That would be Jennifer Hartswick and she's an absolute treasure!!
And trey lost possession of his balls and respect ✊😂

This is what happens when you been sober for 10 years
Yeah, he was a far better musician when he was high every performance.
Hey, trombone player, I got your curved metal tube right here. :-)
this is sloppy but fun
Justin Green lol isn’t all of treys music?

I give them credit for having the horn section play the guitar solo, but sounded a little silly, honestly. But in other parts it sounded awesome.
Yeah, have to agree. Basically, that whole song is the guitar solo........

its cuz he used a pick
is this a joke ?try just doing this for fun ?
Wtf? No never!
Fail, I love this song and Trey but this just sucked, failing to do the end guitar part was the icing on the shit cake.
Thanks Jim Lahey

Martin Corbin exactly.
To play this song on ANYTHING other than a Fender Stratocaster is just blasphemy

Just an overall lame performance. Once you go from party drugs to heroin, life changes.
