- hi all! i'm back with another random video, which is a lyric video for the 2008 live demo version of The World Is Ugly by My Chemical Romance. this version has such a special place in my heart, despite still adoring the Conventional Weapons studio version, i find the lyrics and the emotions of this version so much more powerful. i've looked around on youtube and not many people are making videos about this song at all, and i'm pretty sure only one lyric video exists, and half of the lyrics are wrong (sorry 🙊)
i still don't think even i have the lyrics 100% since the audio quality is pretty bad at times. but i'd say this lyric video is probably 99.9% accurate.
and don't freak out at the random switch of audio quality towards the end, just in case you haven't heard this song before now. they played this version only once i'm pretty sure, and literally only like two videos exist on youtube of the actual performance, so to get the full version of this song, both had to be mashed together since the first person (with the better audio quality) didn't record the whole song, le sigh 😣
but despite wishing we had a high quality recording of this version, i still feel blessed that we have any recording at all!

I do not understand why they changed the original. This version is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
it was changed bc gerard wrote songs for how he felt at the time, the thing that changed was bandit's birth which caused the newer version to have lyrics directed towards bandit
Zero , yah as much as I like the official version I like this one because it has so much emotion, and energy put into it that is so hard to match.

This version was written when he broke up with his ex gf, and the newer version was written when he started a family and had Bandit Way and Lindsey Way. I don't think he'd want to cry as he was becoming happier and getting better with a woman and a child he loves. The emotion plays a role.
Anyways, the studio version was probably from perspective of someone rebellious enough to love someone the way they do. They have to leave (possibly forever) and didn't want their lover to cry, so tried to not seem as heartbroken and sad as they leave even though they felt that way.
You can hear the Raw emotions in his voice. It literally sounds like he is in pain. That's what makes this more special than the Studio version, because you can feel, hear, the emotions by the way he sings.

this song song makes me remember how much gerard way cares about his fan base,the message behind it,"the world is ugly but your beautiful to me" its so annoying how they blame him when a fan of his commits suicide all of his songs are about not giving up and about "not afraid to keep on living" literally spelled out like in famous last words

@@3twibles4sweetrevenge a lot of people. all the time. it was more common back during their prime but id assume it still happens. media outlets in the 2000s were always blaming the "satanic cultish emo bands" for any sort of violence, anger, or suicide that came from teens at the time. it seems silly to anyone who knows about the music and what it means, and how it in fact SAVES people from doing things like that a lot of times, but its incredibly common for people outside of the sphere to use band members and other creators of teenage entertainment as a scapegoat instead of actually assessing the issues they claim to care about
THANK YOU. This version was played during the concert I went to in Sao Paulo in Brazil in 2008 and honestly the official album version will never live up to this. I literally cried back then and it still moves me... I only wish this version made into an album with a decent audio quality ;(
Thaís Herrera you were actually there? 😱 aaaah that had to have been SO amazing!! like wow, you were one of the only people to ever hear this version live. how special! i don’t doubt it still does resonate with you like that, i’d feel the same! this version truly is something great and the studio version just is not the same, i agree. it’s basically a whole different song, in my opinion. i love the vibe of this version way more! i wish we had better audio too :(

Yeah! well, lucky me! haha they played 2 days, I went in the 2nd day, so it might be the other day's recording, but still. Sadly smartphones were not a thing yet and I couldn't record anything cuz my camera battery ran out, plus the audio quality sucked haha. But in my mind I remember like it was yesterday. Small venue so I could watch it really close to the stage which was great, I was on the left side in front of Ray, and once Gerard walked right in front of me and I was SO excited fangirling so hard I even yelled MARRY ME GERARD! HAHAHA - true story. I also remember at Sleep they made a different intro with a drums solo which was awesome. And when this song started I was like 'shIT A NEW ONE??" and it hit me right in the feels. 02/18/2008. never forget. Wow, exactly a month from now today it will be 11 years!! excuse me while I go cry a lot
Thaís Herrera that is just so cool! i love hearing about concert experiences, and especially from MCR concerts considering i never got to go to one 😩 so i just live through the stories of others haha and that seemed like such a great one. wow. awesome!! and holy crap yeah, it really is the anniversary of it! that’s wild!!
haha yeah, I guess I know how you feel cuz I feel the same way about LP concerts, lost my chances forever ;( I feel I'll never get over MCR breaking up I guess so I keep watching these videos so I can feel a little bit of how I felt during that time hahaha it kinda hurts bc it's gone but at the same time feels nice in a weird way

ALSO- If you are looking for a studio version, A youtube musician named Billy Cobb did an epic studio grade cover of this song. He sings very similarly to Gerard, and it's a great alternative to mourning the fact that this version was never finished.

ok but their sound changed as band members change. the original band made MCR. they were in sync. but as stuff started happening and new guys came in the sound just is not the same. like with the rolling stones. and Way trying to go solo just didn't have the MCR spirit. Poor Bob. he was a damn good drummer the they had and compared to other bands. he could really get the beat. And Frank. yeah and Way were into each other. so what? They didn't not have to force them selves to marry women and have kids. the fans would have been totally cool with them together. When frank left, Way just looked totally blank. he was singing but he was like he lost something. frank could put a light in his eye that wife can't. frank was a great support. My MCR dream is to see the original band i mean the welcome to the black parade band, get back together. They Made MCR. they are MCR. MCR is out on tour again. and that's great. but it's not like the real MCR. but that's just me. regardless, i shell remain a fan.

I looove this effing song. So beautiful, powerful, & gut wrenching. My #1 favorite from thier entire catalogue...it deserved so much more than it got. It's so goddamn intense. It grabs your attention & leaves an impact on you right away. U know they gotta have a few versions of this finished. Why didn't we get it on Living W/Ghosts??? 😭 I'd ball like a baby if this got released. My MCR collection doesn't feel complete w/o this version & Stay....

thanks for this. This is so awesome. Love this version. The studio version is great but i bet they changed it cus of the second half of the song sounds not as "melodic",and its too raw the whole thing is besides. When producers hear a song like this they always change it.....wish this was on the album.

I also thought that it was 'of him' but then relistened a bunch of times and now all i can hear is 'again'. Mainly because it doesn't sound like he's making an 'i' like in 'him' but rather a 'ai' like in 'againg'. and also I hear the 'g' sound
É assim que devia ter sido o conventional weapons, pra mim, depois de the black parade, my chemical ficou bem mais comercial e com menos alma.
Aqui parece uma mistura de black parade com bullets, meus dois álbuns preferidos, simplesmente perfeita essa música nessa versão, a letra sempre foi boa, mas o que faltou foi a emoção necessária.
Most of times the previous to the studio version has more impact and feelings than the more known one. Here you can feel that Gerard is singing with al his feelings and giving everything he got. love this raw and unfinished, yet perfect version.

Listen to the song like it’s about how Frank loves Gerard but, is mad at himself for leaving him behind, the ending being him at an argument with himself, almost like he’s screaming at a mirror.

Since this song was written in 2008 (and just under a year after his marriage to Lindsey) I always assumed it was about him leaving Frank behind, but not being able to entirely let go of their relationship, despite him being married ('Well, I think you both should go', and the whole 'are you happy now that you got what you came for')

I think its "Are you thinking of him" because then he proceeds to say "I think you bot should go" and also he could be saying " But I think its just a fling" because then he proceeds to say "are you happy now that you got wat you came for?" I thin the song was originally about loving someone whos in a relationship but cheated with you and only wanted a fling, which is why i think they rewrote the lyrics as its not really their style. Ultimately, i think the song, and most people agree, suffered for it

yeah, i’m pretty sure. when i made this video i listened to the song like 5 times very closely just to get my take on it all lol and even listening to it again right now i can very clearly hear the “g” in again. i mean yeah i could still be wrong but i personally do think it’s again 🤷🏻♀️

ya he is saying are you thinking of him. it's super clear. I heard it the 1st time I listened to it. then I saw it in another video that confirmed it. rest are 100% accurate though. & it does say 99% accurate @ the start. It makes sense to "are you thinking of me, are you thinking of him, I think you both should go"
