Baby Elephant Phabeni is Surrounded by the Huddle of His New Family

- You can frequently see African elephants creating a wall of protection around the smallest and most vulnerable in their herd when they sense danger or a threat. They are truly the best bodyguards. Elephants have been seen to do this around a pregnant female in their herd as she gives birth and predators loom closely, such as hyena. Watch in this video as the herd huddle around Phabeni on several occasions out in the bush.
The primary role of elephant family units is to protect and raise the calves. The next generation… Especially with Phabeni being kept back at the orphanage on some days while he was sick, the herd became extra protective over him. They were very attentive when the calf was back among their giant legs.
Older cows in a herd work together to assist in looking after the calves. Where there are more females looking after the babies in a herd, the calves are more likely to survive. The females share this huge responsibility as life in the wild is full of threats and surprises. Elephants can smell and hear threats from far away, often when we as humans cannot detect anything.
The old and young bulls in our herd also offer protection to members in their family. Ours is a very unique herd since usually bulls break away from the matriarchal herd once they reach their teenage years. Our rescued herd includes bulls from 11 months (Phabeni) to 38 years (Sebakwe) of age. The elephants take family seriously. They are herd animals, and ensuring they all stay together and safe in the bush is vital to them. Huddling together when stressed or uncertain ensures they can account for everyone and protect those who need help.
Such good protectors. And so sweet how big sister Khanyisa just adores her baby brother.

Look at Klaserie kissing Phabeni while hes under the big mums...too sweet
It's wonderful to see baby Phabini looking so healthy again and with his elephant family 🐘❣
One month ago today. Phabeni left thousands in tears. You gave so much of yourselves for so long. The tears are for you as well.
What a life. Phabeni huddles and Khanyisa skies. The HERD earth. Thank you.
❤️
There's is something magical and spiritual about elephants. Sweet Phabeni.
I love how Khaynisa and little Phabeni seem to be good friends. She seems to care greatly for him!
My heart is deeply and profoundly moved by these elephants. Thank you for capturing these magnificent huddles.
Seriously, we humans could and should learn from these majestic elephants!!
Amazing solidarity and love!! 😻😻😻
There are so many elephants. I’m so happy to see them. Thank you for taking care of and protecting the elephants.🥰🙏🐘
Elephants are so intelligent. I love The Herd videos.
If only all of the ppl in the world felt this strongly about their family. The world would be a better place.
❤️
So heartwarming to see these beautiful giants being so protective of the little ones and living a natural and protected life in peace. Thank you all for all your hard work to care for these animals. You bring us such joy when you share the elephants blessed life in their home.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see ALL of these elephants living life together as a family!!! Incredibly amazing animals!!! Thank you so much for sharing so much!!! Especially to those of us who would NEVER get to see this otherwise!!! God bless you all & EVERY SINGLE ELEPHANT!!!! 🥰🙏💕💚💜🧡💙❤️
The way they circle the babies and youngsters is one of the most moving things I've ever seen. ❤❤❤
❤
Gracias!!..es tan hermoso ver a Phabeni tan cuidado por su manada !! ❤❤❤
What a beautiful, blended, loving, intelligent, family. Love seeing our pink princess be so attentive to her darling baby brother.
Lovely video especially the water scene.
Thank you.
❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘❤️🐘
I started watching during the Covid crisis, and you brought joy to our hearts with Khanyisa and now you continue to help me with being disabled just watching Herd and bringing happiness to the world by saving God’s creations. Kenneth is watching from heaven with great joy, taking care of the elephants that went too soon.
What a Beautiful comment and I absolutely agree about Kenneth ❤ Very Best Wishes to you 🙏🏻🐘😊
And what a fantastic idea to start RUclips since the lodge couldn't have guests. The elephants needed the money and it was a genius idea.
@@janparish7895 Very beautiful comment ❤🙏❤.
@anitasyvalahti1730 Thank you for your Kindness 🧡🐘🙏🏻
I agree 💯. This HERD has brought so much joy to so many people including myself.
That is a beautiful view. The mountains, clouds, hills, sky and elephants.
BIG BEAUTIFUL BODY GUARDS❤💙💚🐘🐘🐘
LINDOS, LINDOS, LINDOS! QUE LINDA FAMILIA PHABENI ENCONTROU😍😍😍🤗🤗🤗🐘🐘🐘🐘
Watching tiny Phabeni weave in and out of the huddled herd is amazing. Everyone playing a part to protect the baby. So natural for them to do this, but a heart-warming display for us humans.
The Herd gives new meaning to "Serve and Protect", this is how they roll!
Definitely❤️
Precious Phabeni…. So happy for him … he lost lost his mama … now he has the wonderful adine and the amazing carers plus a handful of elephant mamas ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just love watching the Herd live their best life. Thank you ALL for caring for them.❤
For their size, they are graceful and beautiful ❤❤❤❤
It's inspiring to see how Khanyisa, who was lavished with personal care at the orphanage (a human probably would have become self-focused and spoiled), has taken her natural place in the herd to help care for little Phabeni.
She truly has. I have to admit, I have expected her to be a spoiled brat, but I am glad she proved me wrong. I realized, I judged her from a human perspective, but elephant behavior is so much better than humans' most of the times. I love Khanyisa for being a beautiful and protective big sister to Baby Phabeni.
It's wonderful to see how these elephants, most of whom are unrelated, have bonded with each other and work together to protect their adopted babies.
It's a great teaching for the humans. Can't say "Herd".😂❤
Yes and Phabeni is doing so well now even in the heat. I'm going to make an one off donation today. Thanks you people who work at HERD. ❤
These ellies have crept into my entire family's heart, thank you Herd ❤
And I always wonder (bc they are so smart and instinctive), if they smell/recognize their original families. I have to think that the original Herd, not Jabu, but the bunch that got transferred to this protected area, must be related somehow. Maybe not all, but a few.
Isn't that something ❤❤
What a joy to see Phabeni being so loved and protected. A truly beautiful herd. Many trunk rubs and love to them all ❤❤❤
he was loved by people around the world & by his wonderful herd, who accepted him in the most wonderful ways.
🐃🦏🦁🦛🐘The Power of Love is this...If you move, we move... The instinct of these gentle giants is remarkable - truly unique!!! Regardless being in the wild or having the protection of Mamma Adine or the all Babas of the human Herd!!! Bless your hearts for changing mentalities and the awareness that without the African fauna and floral, the world will collapse!!! What an amazing ecosystem!💚🐘🦛🐾🍼
What a world we would have if humans took an elephant’s lifestyle... peaceful, protective, and full of love..🐘❤️
So very true. 🙏
It's a wonderful scene: a healthy herd of elephant cows watching over the baby bull calf. But there is a hidden message as well: the human community of HERD that sees to the health of the adult elephants. It's a Great Chain of Caring that adds up to, I hope, to the survival of the African Elephant. This is why I have been a monthly donor to HERD for several years and counting.
It's good to see that Phabeni has all the protection he needs from his family ❤
it’s so lovely to see how they have adopted the little boy ❤
Oh this is Beautiful! A loving family protecting their baby. How loved he must feel. And Khanyisa is a Devoted and Caring Big Sister 💙🐘❤️🐘😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I was just thinking that about little pink princess. Shes a great big sister and maybe a great mother one day 😊
@@user-kp1pz6zv8y I agree! She will be an amazing mother 💖🐘💖👍🙏🏻😊
I trust comments, such as the one below, convey the scale of the gratitude we have towards you, the carers and elephants. Those of us who cannot physically visit you are blessed to have you in our lives--even virtually. We can feel the love that travels over thousands of kilometres to our eager eyes and hearts. Dankie x 1,000,000,000.
You are so kind❤️
@@herdelephantorphanage As I always answer: Wish I could do more.
We can watch and learn from this group of elephants. They are unrelated yet keep together to protect all in the herd bubble. They tell us that zoos are there to educate but to be honest I have learned more about elephants from watching these videos than I could from gawping at a captive Ellie in a zoo. Thanks to you all at Herd. ❤️🏴
Love this herd and how they adopt and look after the little ones ❤❤
I woke up in pain this morning and watching the tender loving care little Phabeni receives from his herd made me smile . Thank You so much for that :)
I wish everybody could see this video. Most people don't realize how sensitive, loving and responsible elephants are. I blame the news for only showing them at their worst possible moments, when they are angry from mistreatment, or terrified, running and looking dangerous.
Absolutely agree!! 👏👏👏👏🧡🐘🧡🙏🏻
Hunters don’t care. They want trophies and poachers want the same I guess
They are incredible creatures. ❤
Phabeni has brought a new purpose and joy to the human and elephant herd!❤
❤️
Incredibly beautiful 🙏❤️🐘
Thank you HERD for everything you do for these majestic elephants ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
How precious is that little life, all the grown ups are loving, protective and proud of their baby. Thank you Herd for making this possible.
They certainly are protective , I love how Khanysia has to be in the middle of if the huddle to protect the little guy . It great that he is doing so much better now and will soon be growing in leaps and bounds, just as miss Sunshine did ❤❤
The Great Wall of protection, that would undoubtedly be Elephant legs & a whole lotta love. ❤
we humans have much to learn from these intelligent wonderful creatures.
It's touching. I wish all human were that way.
😊
They are so precious! And YES they are a very unique HERD and as individuals so beautiful and unique. I will never be able to thank you enough for sharing these beautiful HERD moments with all of us. Much love Suzanne
Elephants are better than humans. They have values and honor them.
I always loved them since I was a young kid. I wish I could be there. Maybe in another life.
I love what you do for them and thank you for all.
Humans learn very much from these beautiful, loving, sensitive and caring elephants. Always together protecting one another faithfully. Kid Kanysha loves to protect her baby brother Phabeni. She is learning very well from her beautiful family 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘❤❤❤❤💖💖💖
Definitely❤️
Oh my goodness, look at how motherly our Sunshine Girl is at such a young age. And the relationship between her and the little man is gorgeous to watch.
Baby Phabeni, the bright star of the Herd, so immensely loved and protected, so many hearts are beating for you❣🌟❤🐘🔥
The Video today was so beautiful!!! The elephants , in their territory doing their thing…. Being a herd !!! Always so protective of the little One, it was magic ❣️❣️❣️
I have only one word......elephanTASTIC ❤
I just love Elephants and I was so glad to find the HERD during Covid, thank you.
With all the wonderful explanations typed at the bottom of the screen (thank you!) of how these highly intelligent, sentient beings are naturally, it makes me want to give each one of them a hug. I cannot do that. So instead I keep these elephants and ALL their carers in my prayers for health, safety & happiness.
Completamente d'accordo! Hi
Phabeni is just adorable. What a gift these magnificent animals are to all of us. Thank you all for your care and sharing of God's beautiful gift to us.❤
Thank you for sharing the beauty of elephant society. They have a caring heart for young children. It's really good.
Another exceptional video, Thank you for sharing 😊 When you're filming Phaebini in the Compound area, He looks like a Big Boy! And when he is out with the rest of the Herd, he seems so tiny, and I have to remember that he is not 1 year, yet. 😊🐘🍁🙋♀️🇨🇦🙏🐘🙏🐘🙏🐘🙏🐘🙏🐘🙏🐘🐘🐘
This is pure love and family
Look at all those elephant bottoms surrounding and protecting little Phebanie ❤❤. So glad to see him with his new family. They accepted him so quickly just as they took in Khanyisa all those years ago! Its such a beautiful sight.
My whole heart is warmed each and every time I watch clips from this herd. Sometimes, I ball my eyes out! The love and overall family dynamic and how protected Phabeni is. World leaders everywhere should watch along in steady doses. There would be no more war.
Beautiful ellies showing love and care so effortlessly and naturally. They're just so amazing. All of humanity can learn so much from them❤🐘
I love how it took just one baby to unite this herd into a real herd with no one off on their own! It's wonderful to see 🥰
That is the safest baby elephant anywhere with those body guards😎
It's wonderful to see their respect for the family ❤️. Hi khanisa ❤️💕 hi Phabeni ❤️💕 hi all elephants 🐘❤️. Hi wonderful people working for the Herd
Thank you Team for all the love and protection you offer these magnificent animals - bless you and special thoughts to Kenneth's soul.
💕 🙏
Does Baby Phabeni realize how lucky she is . All her brothers and sisters protect him and always ready for him
He , not she 😊
Animals are better than most people and elephants are magical in their wisdom of protection.
Adding my huge enjoyment of this video! So pleased & relieved that Phabeni has recovered and can now join the family on their walks. Ellie families are so impressively tight knit, all working together with the most important aim of protecting every member but most especially the youngest. Wonderful❤
How beautiful. People could learn a lot about raising their babies from elephants.
As the oldest of 5 daughters, I always wanted a big brother. Feels wonderful to see Phabeni's best life, surrounded by devotion and HERD love. 😊
(Like I've got that big brother by proxy.)
🇸🇿🌍🌿🐘🍼🐘🐑👨👧🦒🌛
I love to hear their trumpets (by the watering hole). Can’t get enough of that sound as long as everyone is ok and nothing bad is happening, I like their sounds of trumpets!
Hermosos estos animalitos ❤❤❤magestuosos ❤❤❤🐘🐘🐘😍😍
Life sometimes gives you a bouquet of roses and here is one such time ❤
Setombe looks so contented with her baby. The video footage these days is very clear and bright.
So beautiful and so gentle. Love watching them being so protective over the young. One of God's masterpieces at work.
Wonderfull bodyguards : « I will always love you « 💕
Phabeni you are so loved.😊
🙏💘💘💘💘💘💘
… our Khanyisa is so big now …🙏
Beautiful, pink adoring big sister. Seems like yesterday she was just a wee little nugget like Phaebini.
🩷🐘💙
Such a cutie
She has become such a wonderful big sister. ❤
I miss the close ups with Khanyisa.
Elephants are such wonderful and beautiful creatures!❤❤😊
It's amazing how they care for each other and the little monkey, Phabeni! 🙏
Sheer bliss to watch how peaceful and adorably together they are. Their strong bond is palpable. Wonderful.
I love how the human care takers watch after Phabeni’s acceptance into the heard and his well bing ❤
@@watchingover3592Absolutely. They also have a strong bond with the herd. It was so beautiful when Adine said to Phabeni in another video "I'm your Momma just from a different species." I think it says it all.
Blessings an you, Adine, your vision, your wonderful family of Carers ... and these wondrous stories of the Jabulani Herd that bring joy & hope & beauty into the world and into all the hearts of us who have found you & share you with the world. Many sweet blessings. This morning's story makes so much peace in my heart. I echo here so many comments below: us humans could learn about right relationship from following your herd (and other elephant herds.) May we all come through these challenging world times with more heart, vision, community--and dedication to protecting all our animal relations in all our parts of the world. May the intelligence of elephants point us in the right direction. ♥
These beautiful ellies define "family" in the best possible way! Gotta love them!! I fell in love 4 years ago when little pinky was rescued and have felt like a family member ever since. Bless all at HERD for their incredible care and devotion to these magnificent beings! Cheers from California!
We are so grateful to you for following us and our stories and thank you for those lovely words. 🙏💗💗💗🐘💗💗💗🐘
It's exciting to see this family of elephants stay together and take care of each other... It's an example for humanity! Good morning from Brasil!
❤he's really happy with his herd, aunties uncles brothers sisters and mom Setombe ❤
This reminds me of the Khanyisa video where the HERD came running to greet Khanyisa as she was brought by Jabulani to join the HERD. If there were videos that could show just how loving caring and accepting elephants are... It would be these two. You could see how they all surround little Phabeni whenever he is alone or walking. Even the big bulls like Sebakwe, Fishan, Samopane and Jabulani are around to show their support. This HERD is so unique in that some of them come from different areas and we're rescued and they were welcomed with open arms. It's a testament to the leadership of the Matriarch Tokwe and the older cows in the HERD. Their love and support is immeasurable. It also shows how the older bulls have come to assume the father figure role and that they will protect their HERD. What an incredibly unique and amazing HERD. This is also a testament to the leadership, devotion and sacrifice of Adine and carers. Humans could learn so much from elephants and their kindness and compassion. Thank you Adine and carers for all that you do. 🙏❤️
Thanks so much for the support❤️
And now Khanyisa is the big sister to Phabeni
@@maggiemccauslin1084 So wonderful to see.
I thought I could not love elephants more, yet because of your channel, I surely do!
They are so beautiful with all their nurturing and to be loved so much 🥰 I am so happy PHABENI 🐘 has the best family in the world. 🌎 🥰🍀🌻🙏
Ooh how I adore watching all of the elephants!! I noticed that while they were at the swimming area that the others spread around and separated so each area was protected. Watching your videos with the elephants is my great fortune!! 😊❤️🙏
It is wonderful to see all these beautiful elephants getting along whenever they are together,to bad we humans can’t be the same!💕
A complete joy to watch. I wish elephants could talk so they can give humans lessons on family life
Our little guinea pig is spoiled by both 2-legged and 4-legged ones!😍😄
The opening shot is outstanding. Mountains, clouds and water in the foreground with the herd. Looks like Khanyisa enjoys time with Phabeni, and he enjoys time with her. She makes a wonderful big sister. 🐘😊
❤️
He wasn't strong enough, and I grieve for phabeni
