Nice video Craig. I like the Firehouse at the end there too. I am realizing now how important it is to keep the mower deck clean. I made a video in some year ago cleaning my mower deck and explaining how important it was to keep clean, but never cleaned it again. The deck rotted and the end of last year. It served a long life and it gave the excuse to buy a zero turn. lol. I will be cleaning this one a lot more often.
Thank you Brad!! The C series tractors are also my favorite. Searched all over for a C-160 with hydraulics, couldn't find one so bought the 520H when that came along. Great heavy duty garden tractors.
Oh, how well I know that routine!! My 2013 Simplicity Conquest (the WH replacement) uses chains to hold the rear of the deck and a 'hinge' on the front. What a pain to line up the hinge perfectly!! I have a lot of arguments with the belt tensioner, too! Many times the deck has come off of the chains and it's fallen off the front hinge a few times, also. The WH way was so, so much better and stronger!
I restored a 1972 Wheel Horse. Love them. a Chrome one is for sale in Ontario Fully restored, 179 of 200 produced. $7,500. I always send the clippings back into uncut grass.
Quick tip for ya if you do it one manned. Hook your lift rod in start the tractor hole the deck support up and hit the hydro lift up and it'll go right in then flip the latch. My dad taught me that because I always fought putting the deck on like that. Apparently thats how wheel horse intended to do it lol. Great video though!
Cheers, Craig.... Awesome video!! Haha!! I don't even have a wheel horse.. But, I have 3 Craftsmen's and an international cub cadet ( old one) .... ;-)
BillGoudy Those old Cubs run forever! Relax this weekend bud, I’m doing some ribs and something over the campfire tomorrow, not sure what, but it will be good!!
Let me tell both you guys something here, Good old tractors are worth their weight in gold! Look how this fellow was able to move that boat around, no sweat. Lets see you dingbats with the zero turn radious junk do that, you can't. They should be pulled off the market and scrapped, all you can do with a zero turn radious is mow grass, and it looks like it would flip you out of the thing, go cart with a mower deck. GO TRACTORS, ALL THE WAY!
I appreciate that video. The next time you clean the deck and take it off, could you please do a video on leveling the deck or adjusting the deck? Thank You.
billrok There’s no leveling, it’s hydraulic. The deck is a full floating deck, it hangs in the front like I showed and in the middle, but the deck you can rock back and forth, follows the lawn contour for an awesome level cut.
not2fast4u2c Lawn tractors are the very BEST! Look at all you csn do with them as opposed to that zero turn radious junk out there, which, all you can do is mow grass with them, and that's it. They look unsafe, flip you out of them if your not careful with what you do with them, go cart with mower decks, they should be outlawed.
That hitch ball was a Christmas gift from my wife years ago, guy sells them on ebay for Wheel Horses. I'm going to pound that out, its definitely on the list because it is driving me nuts. So are those two scratches on the belt cover that I got from the blade lever while pushing snow. Grrrrrr!!!
I know this video is older, I don't get to see anything but the title.. but I've pulled my 16' Starcraft around the yard. Also pull a 12 Triton snowmobile trailer, loaded with either two sleds or two Can Am atv's. I have a front hitch that makes moving trailers so easy, but I always keep the rpms up so the pump does what it needs to. Amazing how well this tractor pulls and pushes.
The pulley for the blades is the one closest to the engine. If you use the outter one, which I think is the snowblower pulley, that will be a slower blade speed.
W1WEASEL Engine longevity. It just doesn’t need to spin any faster, I’d get another 1/2 mph probably but since the motor is so torquey it can cut or handle any task. The Onan doesn’t sound as happy at 3600 so I’ve got it set a little lower.
The mower’s ratio through the pto/pulleys are designed to run an optimum tip speed calibrated to 3600 rpm. Beauty of a tractor! Maybe mine will look like that someday👍 Not sure if anyone knew this but the Quickie homebuilt aircraft actually uses a modified Onan👍
@@CraigArndt The engine actually has to run at 3600 because it runs the hydro fan and pump. By not running at 3600 you're not properly cooling the hydro system and it strains the hydro pump, hence the whining in the video when moving the trailer around. It specifically states this information in the manual. And the blade speed is significantly lowered too.
@@oscarjones5773 That's what the gauge reads, I don't know that it is actually correct. The fan is moving a lot of air, can feel it pumping out the back of the tractor...the hydro and filter never get hot to where you can't leave your hand on it. More important is to have clean fins on the hydro and not a build up of grass and crap.

CRAIG ARNDT, my friend, I have a Toro Willhorse DXi 55, year 2003, which no longer wants to start the brushcutter and the light on the panel is on directly; could you let me know how to fix it. Grateful
Hi José, I'm not sure... I don't have much experience with the newer Wheel Horses that Toro produced, LXI's. If your tractor has an electric PTO, I would start there. Also, if you haven't checked on Red Square, I would post that question to the fellas there, I go on it when I get stumped sometimes.
This is no show Horse! A full restoration was so it could be used. I bought that hitch in the front but the pin slipped out and wound up denting the sheet metal. Hard to beat these tractors. They work all their useful lives, live outside many of the time and then become pulling tractors, lol.
Beautiful mower, is that a 520h? Jealousy here
Nice lawn
Thanks, hope you subscribe Walt. Appreciate the comment.

Nice to have a big lawn tractor !!!!...We won't ask you how you got the dent in the front ..I see a body work video in your future

Can you run one of the other pulleys and change the blade speed?
The pulley for the blades is the one closest to the engine. If you use the outter one, which I think is the snowblower pulley, that will be a slower blade speed.
In other words, if you have covers, take them off and put them in storage.
