Reminds me of home. I was born and raised in the foothills of the Smokies. There is a history here of the people who settled in this area and the native Americans that were here first. I belong to both groups and have always been proud of my heritage. Your home makes me think of my own. Thank you for sharing yours.

Thanks for the hike Charlie. Something that never ceases to amaze me, the thousands of miles of rock walls in New England. The time and effort to create them. When I find an artifact by a stone wall I always pause and imagine what happened when the item was lost and realize I am standing in the shadow of someone 200 years old or older. The walls are some of my favorite things in New England. Great camera work!

Very well said Steven and you are so right, and to think these stones have not moved since they were placed there so long ago

Charlie it felt like the top of the world up there. What a magnificent range of views. The fact that people built the walls with their bare hands and muscle makes me wonder who those brave souls were. They took a chance and faced many dangers but faced them bravely and made a life in that rocky place, they called home. I wonder how many of them are buried up there where the air was clean and fresh? It gets the mind working and then you, the Stealth Diggers go out detecting and find remnants of their lives. I honour you all for your dedication to the history of the area, which is so very beautiful and majestic. LFOD my friend, thank you for taking us with you.

Watatic! My family and friends used to hike it! We lived in Ashby, just minutes away from Ashburnham. LOTS of old (1700's) homes in the area. Ours originally belonged to Captain William Wilder (yes, related) who was captain of one of John Hancock's smuggling ships, and John Hancock allegedly owned the place next to us. No, we did not own a metal detector when we lived there. We are going to request permission, of course. Great music background! Great playing and singing!

Great shots and video, Charlie! Makes me homesick for the rocks of New England. All we have down here is beach sand! You cannot beat the woods of New England for exploring! Even though I grew up in SE MA, around Carol Rio's stomping grounds, I spend most of my summers in the Lunenburg area of MA. Hiking around that area...Mt. Wachusett, Mt. Mondadnock many times, etc. Great, great times!!! Fantastic video! Loved it!

Good job Charley! I hiked Watatic back in the day as well as other hills in the vicinity including Wachusett, Monadnock, Pack Monadnock, Mt. Grace, etc. Hiked Monadnock in the middle of winter several times which was pretty cool. Winter hiking is a whole different experience. I am also interested in the stone walls. How, why and when they were built. I have seen various publications claiming that it would have taken a zillion (a little sarcasm) years to build them all with 17th and 18th century technology. Again great job and looking forward to the next "Not Thursday.

I wonder if whoever had that large stone that sits upright originally came from an area that had a standing stone circle? It could have been a place where he would go and be quiet and remember those he left behind. I think this is one of my favourite videos Charlie. Thank you for sharing it. Good times Digger Charlie.

You know what you should do a video on is how it came about you secured the rights to the area you mostly detect. I understand that you can't disclose the actual area and I totally understand that and I don't want to know that. It would be neat to know the back story on the land you guys detect. Awesome video as usual keep them coming.

Excellent Not Thursday Digger Charlie! Thanks for packing me up that Mountain, you must be exhausted! That one Rock in the wall reminded me of a grave marker of some sort. The walls that the settlers built on those hillsides are just amazing. Even the smaller rocks in those walls will weigh thirty or forty pounds. I'm guessing some of the average rocks weigh more than that. Those people had to be in great condition to lug thousands of large rocks up and down those hillsides. Thanks for sharing and taking us along. Enjoy your trip To Lake Charles, Louisiana!
