I like to use my oracle cards before bed when I need something more calming than Tarot. Your collection is stunning. I also have the Woodland Wardens Oracle. I use it about 1/week or every two weeks.
I use oracle decks in a few ways but mostly as what I call “medicine” cards. Ill pull one and just put it on my nightstand and let the energy kind of “work” on me while I sleep. I don’t analyze or interpret it, just look at the art, the message and go to sleep.
🤣I did a video 9 months ago where I talk a bit about how I use my oracle decks. You might glean some ideas from that? I always have oracle cards on my altar. I use them mainly for that purpose and, I never use oracle cards to clarify a Tarot reading. That is ass-backwards to me. If I pick an oracle card, that sets the theme or picks up on what's cookin' around me. I then do a Tarot reading to expand on the oracle card I just picked. You have a great oracle deck family. There is no reason to get rid of any of them. In my way of doing things, oracle decks fall under a similar vibe to reference books, magical tools, and on occasion, holy cards if their theme is representative of my spirituality. Thank you for doing this video! xoxo
I’ve been using woodland wardens the way you describe with my patrons. I pull a card from it and then I know what our theme for the week’s tarot reading will be. Works great! I remember that video you did!
I have a similar relationship to oracle decks. I own multiples, I hardly ever use them. And yet I have multiples on my wishlist that probably will come into my collection at some point. I frequently buy them for the art, and just to have a good vibe. My conclusion however was that they bring me joy and don't take up a huge amount of space.
i've never been drawn to oracle decks as much as tarot. I have five, each have a use, and i have no plans on getting more! 🐘i loooove woodland wardens and pretty much only use it to set intentions. it's a practice i've grown to really love since getting the deck, as setting intentions with tarot just ended up always feeling too broad i guess? also i swear 9/10 people ive heard talk about brian froud's faeries oracle say the same thing you have, and in my experience, i also fully agree! what an intense yet gentle deck. truly a work of art.
I absolutely use oracle HOWEVER not AT ALL in the way I use tarot...either in quantity or quality. Oracle is almost exclusively at the altar whereas tarot happens anywhere/everywhere. And while tarot is for literally anything/everything, oracle is only ever deeply religious/mystical/numinous/devotional. To use a visual analogy, if tarot is a quadrilateral (4 sides, literally any angles)... then oracle is only ever rhomboid. 🧐 (And almost nothing is a perfect square because squares are boring & 4-way symmetry pisses me off 🤪) ... Does that make sense? ... Editing to add: I didn't decide ahead that my oracle usage would be that way, I've just noticed over time that it feels REALLY weird to read oracle at the pub or park...I think the only other places it gets read are at my writing desk or right before art/crafting. And most often in conjunction with an already complete tarot reading. Pretty rarely by itself.
Why do I have oracle cards?! Because they are useful just like Tarot and they bring so much happiness into my life. 😊 I use them daily along with my Tarot. I use mostly Dragon Oracle by Diana Cooper, Magical Mermaids and Dolphins by Doreen Virtue, Mystic Martian Oracle, just to name a few. Thanks for sharing your lovely collection. 🖤🌹
For the decks you only use a few times a year, maybe you could try to use one deck for 2 or 3 specific purposes, and see if that works, so you could reduce the oracle collection by 2 thirds? Of course the emotional bond with "beautiful art", "special deck", "self made"etc still is there, but maybe if you put those in a box and hide them for a year, and then reassess, maybe you're ready to let go of one or the other, or maybe you realise that a certain deck of those is the better one, instead of another one you kept out. OOOOORRRR you still want to keep them all, and that's ok too.
This video was perfectly timed for me - I nearly bought an oracle this morning (it was on special)…but I stopped myself because…what am I going to use it for?? I typically use my oracles for special readings such as full/new moon or equinox/solstice or for ‘shadow work’. But I do have quite a few that don’t really work the way I thought they would. I’ve definitely bought too many because they were ‘pretty’. I’ll be making lists of my oracle cards over the winter (I’m in the Southern Hemisphere) and assigning them ‘jobs’. Those that are ‘jobless’ are leaving my collection!!
I do really like oracle, but I use them usually in only one of two ways. I pull a card with my tarot daily draw. (I like to see how the cards talk to each other. Often I find it brings out a facet of the tarot card in an interesting way.) Or I use it when I'm tired or overwhelmed and my brain just cannot read tarot. Usually for me oracle is gentler and easier to read. I've found out that I don't use oracle for all these specific purposes, like inner child readings or shadow readings. That's where I've purchased decks that I don't end up using.
I think that’s part of what trips me up about oracle, is that they all seem to have different systems/voices in a way that tarot doesn’t for me. My experience of tarot is a singular voice in different outfits. But oracle are all individuals and maybe I don’t want my “deck family” that big? 🤔
1 have 1 oracle deck, I love it, it's beautiful, the book entries and keywords are great, but.... I don't use it. One could argue that I have 2 oracle decks, if one counts the Oracle Belline, but I use that one more in a Tarot-influenced Lenormand-ish way, and my brain calls it "cartomancy". On my wishlist are only 3 other oracle decks right now, and the reason why they are there and not in my collection is, that I have no idea what to do with them. I do everything I need to do with cards with my tarot decks, my Belline , playing cards and my Lenormand. I don't have an altar, so I don't need cards to display there. I never clarify or wrap up a reading with an extra card for a reading. If I don't quite understand a reading or a card after a while thinking about it, I pull a tarot cart from a cheeky/ funny/ out of the box deck, and ask "how can I unstuck my mind", then I just think about that card and my attitude a bit, NOT about the initial reading. When I come back to the initial reading a bit later, I suddenly see everything clearly. When I feel I need a wrap up message, I add the numbers, summarise the digits of the result until I get something between 1 and 22 and that major arcana is my wrap up message. If I need a supportive message, I add them up until I have a number between 1 and 9.
Why do I have oracle decks? Because there’s more uses for different oracle decks than tarot decks? Tarot is tarot. A good oracle deck collection can have so much variety in cool systems etc. (However; lots of the more old skool mass market ones effin’ suck)
I probably need to like INTENTIONALLY use my damn oracle cards. Like put tarot down for a month...maybe then I'll know what my relationship to oracle is...
I wonder if what is blocking them being used is just your uncertain relationship with oracle as a whole and how you connect and understand as a whole. It sounds like you are doubting yourself and otherwise expecting that you must have to get rid of something because of how much you actively use it. Accept that you aren’t working with oracle as much as tarot and it’s ok to use it a few times a year or for specific reasons, these decks don’t need to leave just because of that. I love the seasons of the witch oracle decks but know I won’t probably be using them much beyond that cycle or Sabbat season in the year and they work in short window of time and they will still be there resting for the rest of the year. That’s ok. Don’t quantity the amount of use over the quantity you get while using the oracle decks.
I get what you mean, but I tend to shut down when I have too many choices. I can’t ignore the ones dormant. That’s ok! But for the most part these are all ok for now. Still home…for now.
The Alchemy I find intriguing and is one of the decks on my (maybe-)wishlist, but I don't know what I would use it for/ or how. Maybe when a mini version comes out, I might try it, as it seems quite different, and who knows, maybe that one works for me.
Good video! I'm thinking that maybe it's not time for you to get rid of any oracle decks as I seemed to hear "I'm not getting rid of this one anytime soon" on almost all of these. I usually use oracles as a supplemental with my tarot read. It's always fun to see what the orcacle cards say to go along with what tarot is telling me. I have quite a few oracle decks but only use a few. Isis, Mother Mary, Brian Froud's Faeries, are about all the ones I use. I have a deck called Starry Beginnings that I love because I love astronomy and they are all photos from from Hubble and it's fantastic. I have the FEathered Friends oracle, and wanted the other Ted Andrews decks, but the one time I found his tarot deck I had to return it to Thriftbooks because it was only the majors in the box. I'm ok if I don't get his tarot deck now. I just don't want to pay the prices for out of print decks. I've been getting rid of decks, I took 5 decks and 3 tarot book to Half Price Books and all they wanted to give me forthe total of them was $23. Criminal. I don't even want to buy anything from them anymore because of that. The decks were Brady Tarot, Friborg's Tarocchi, Light Seers in a tin, Pulp Girls, and one other I can't remember. Light Seers and Pulp Girls I figured they'd give me $5 for, but the expensive decks? I'd rather donate them and write them off on my taxes. I guess I could put them on FB marketplace so I don't have to bother with shipping, but I really don't like being around people, especially people I don't know. 🤣🤣
I’m also not loving the Brady (maybe it’s the key words) but I don’t think I’ll get rid of it. It lost its spot in my basket of animal decks 😮 same with the Urban Crow oracle, it’s always shitty to me lol

@@MixtressRae that totally makes sense.

Not to tempt you Frodo but Kim Krans Alchemy & Archetypes decks are rad balls ⚽️ 🏀 🏈
I had archetypes but didn’t like it. 🤷🏻♀️

A mini version would intrigue me, because I might be able to shuffle it. That one mostly just makes me want to make my own collage deck. 😎
Your plant deck is nice. Why dont you use it. Its as nice as ones youre biying. Trlling you its real nice❣️ ig you dont want it, ill take it. Lol. ❤
