My favorite story EVER, I bet I have over 50 times listened why? What is crazy about “CDW” This story was never released by Howard, and was released by August Derleth. Being a first draft and unfinished it would have been condensed, and the plot would have been affected after he sent in a draft to a publisher. This makes it very unique and is therefore “Indie” for literary works of that period. Anyway, what I found after a couple listens, I kept picking up more and more details I missed, then correlate them. Well, what’s crazy is, the plot is not only all elaborately interconnected, but even has Easter eggs from the mythos AND has its OWN mythos references and very few stories ever do that. Like the interview with the French prisoner he called up, he’s from AD1300s France. He’s asked about a slaughter, but Curwen during questioning mentions the haute vienne coven, which confused the prisoner, BECAUSE the HVC was from 1700s, and he was confused, and unable to answer, which leads to the bumping noise and muttering, Curwen of course killing him and cursing to himself frustrated. That’s an AMAZING little detail, took me A TON of listens to catch that. There are so many more of those little hand crafted easter eggs it just BLOWS my mind. So this story accidentally becomes easily the most deep short Novell ever, and is such an unappreciated hidden gem that most Lovecraft fans, let alone normal reader overlook. I love your reading of this, Good work!

I read this book and was exhausted because writers back then couldn’t just write what they mean.

like King, takin half a short story to describe a walk-on character.. then has to write a book about that character, he just cant let em go...
king bores me lol, but idk.. Lovecraft pulls me way in. the way he describes everything But the people. the odors, the sounds, the feel, the emotion, the weight of the current happenings, the dread, the fear..
Lovecraft definitely took some gettin used to, to absorb what i was reading.. but hes absolutely my favorite author so far.. im into all of his influencers too like Lord Dunsany and Algernon Blackwood, Poe, and several others.. i love that whole 1800s to early 1900s writing era!
