To me, it's disgusting! My daughters are 2 lovely amazing and very different people. There are different and separate things I love about both of them while still loving every part of them at the same time. They are both my favorite children, my first baby, and my last baby. Having a 'favorite '⁵ and not even trying to hide it is just shameful....kids know, they always know.. even I they say nothing. It breeds resentment and turns people cold towards their parents once they are older and fully grasp what's been done to them.

Also just think how this effected maddie socially, she was a head in school but why? How many hours did she have to work harder to keep up and how much time did she have to just relax and be a kid?

Especially since it was during those foundation years (ages 7 to 13 I believe I could be wrong on what age she ended on) of education and building her social skills. We found this out during the show. There is an episode where Jill and Christy came to the studio super early to catch and record Maddie getting privates and learning her solo early. They did it because Melissa was lying about Maddie learning her solo earlier than the other kids. Now the part about Mackenzie was a shocker.
Textbook gaslighting and child abuse... she made these kids feel like they were trash half the time and groomed them to do whatever is told of them, no question for fame. Disgusting. I'll never forget the one and only time I've watched this show, she had these little kids dance in underwear and belittled the girls and parents for expressing discomfort. Well her girls still had an advantage, because Melissa’s husband is very intelligent and taught the girls when they were younger all the way till high school. (They started homeschooling in season 3 or 4)❤

Abby isn't paid to be their mother. She can't teach them at school. The more time Maddie spent at the studio, Abby made Money. The better they were in competition, Abby made money. The more drama on the show, the longer the show run, the more money Abby makes. Abby had everything to gain and nothing to lose with that secret. That doesn't make her a good person but Maddie's mother was respofor her well being and failed.
I honestly don’t understand how everyone got so hung up on “fairness.” If everything were perfectly fair, everyone in the competition would get the same score. Why even have a competition at that point? The kids and parents who were most dedicated made the most opportunities for themselves, worked the hardest and won the most often. And raw talent and ability factor in as well. That’s the whole point of competing. I think the kids would have gained more from the experience and fared better emotionally if their mothers had explained the Dance Moms experience as an opportunity to challenge themselves as dancers and see how they ranked in different genres and against different dancers instead of constantly telling them their teacher was out to get them.
If Abby had her way ALL the girls would have been honeschooled and then in the studio 8-10 hours a day. She berated Kelly and Christie for refusing to take their kids out of school. I heard them say on a few occasions about taking their kids out of school, going straight to the studio, training until 10-11pm and not getting home till midnight its child exploitation IMO. Wheres the kids time to even have a proper evening meal, relax, and do their homework? Plus sleep depravation because they had to be up again at 6am, so these kids were trying to function on less than half the sleep needed at their ages. And then Abby ranting and raving about why they had no energy?? Also the competition schedule was gruelling - seemed to be long bus rides of 7-8 hours in some cases, or flying across the country through different time zones, plus they have said themselves filming on competition day could be up to 12 hours. Then back home to start on the school/studio/competition thing all over again. It must have bern shattering
To me that makes me speculate that melissa wasn't allowed to bring Mackenzie and that no other mother would have been allowed to do this. Only because melissa does actually care about Mackenzie, but she definitely allowed abby to put her on the back burner and grow in maddie's shadow.
It shows just as poorly on Abby as it does Melissa. Abby harped and harped how Maddie could learn her dance in 20 minutes, and the other girls were worthless. Maddie was just better. So she’s just as big of a liar as Melissa.
This is not new news. Even on the show the other mothers said all the time Maddy had secret privates. Jill and Christy even caught both Maddy and McKenzie having a private but didn’t want to turn over the video. In season 3 Malissa said she took her girls out of school to be home school. But They were actually kicked out of school because they were hardly there.
There’s no such thing a secret privates. The SHOW made it seem this way. Parents do this ALL the time. Is it okay? No… but it happens, especially for parents that want their kids to learn faster and be better.

Actually, schools are pretty powerless to do anything about low attendance rates and since her mom was taking her out after morning attendance it sounds like, there's really nothing they can do.

this is actually super normal in the professional dance world. at my studio growing up i was literally the only student who did full school days. everyone else either did half days or homeschooling so they could focus more on dance. i was gonna do the same but the program i was going to do it through fell through. the problem isn’t learning during school hours in general, it’s the abuse that went on onscreen and offscreen for these girls.

@@megmur1766 maddie and mckenzie had no reason to go to college, maddie especially. she’s been working on numerous projects since leaving dance moms and so has mckenzie. yes, school is required which is why they both got the legally required amount of schooling done. it’s probably hard to image but in the dance world it’s very very normal for kids to be homeschooled or pulled early for half days everyday in order to dance. when i was training with a professional company i would miss almost 3 weeks of school every winter as we put on the nutcracker. not everyone is passionate about school/wants to go to college.
But...what if they decide to stop dancing or no longer physically can dance (heard way too many dancers destroyed by the latter, let alone those without a life away from dance)? Or they run out of money or they continue dancing and want to know more about the finances of the brand sponsorships they're being given...? Education gives opportunity and taking that away from children and/or young adults to me says more about the ambitions & priorities of the parents, than the talent or interests of children. I personally think the US is way too free (deliberately negligent) with how they do 'homeschooling'. It seems to be widely acknowledged as varying dramatically based on the intentions and interests of the parents, over the future, skills or basic needs of chileren 😣

Education cannot be replaced. Dance should only be offered as a PE credit with a local Dance Studio to collaborate, otherwise they can do it after school. There aren’t enough restrictions on that.

It’s the fact that Melissa pulled one out of school, didn’t tell the other, and fed one of them with the things that she needed into the other just got the scraps she gave one of them what she needed and the other was just left there. She is purposefully one of them after McKenzie specifically asked her for more time with her. Big shout-out to my friend Cody who gave me an immediately accessible way to pull a vacuum for silicone (albeit in small amounts.) Filling a syringe that I already had for silicone/alcohol/resin projects partway with the silicone to de-gas, capping the syringe, then continuing to pull the plunger. He even 3D printed me a little bracket to hold the plungers pulled back!
And Abby, Melissa and Maddie just lied about it, even when confronted, and pretended that Maddie was such a miraculous dancer and learner while she was just getting many more lessons and time. They even dare to expect the other kids to learn the dances in the spot, even comparing them to Maddie's capacity to do it while, in fact, she already knew the dances. It turns out that the other kids where quite fastener learners, they nailed the dances having much less time to learn and practice them

I don't think this is all "love and care for Maddie and her sister" there was a lot of screaming and humiliation, remember that trauma is not only caused when you're the one being mistreated but also when you see other kids being mistreated and humiliated. Maddie had a lot of pressure, since Abby was always saying she was "the face" of her studio and she had to win every time and let's not forget the weird things Abby did to Maddie, like kissing her and manipulating her to think she should've been against her own mother when Melissa didn't want to take her to class. Also, never compare how different people deal with trauma or situations, Jojo could be completely okay with Abby and the things she did to her but that doesn't mean everyone else should be okay too.
CONTEXT: This was before homeschooling was common. Maddie was extremely gifted in academics and was in the top of her class. Maddie was so bored in school that the schoolteachers volunteered maddie to tutor younger students for free. Melissa AND Abby both agreed that Maddie should be dancing with her free time instead of tutoring kindergarteners on math for free/ Maddie would eventually transition to homeschooling and Holly(Nia's Mom) took responsibility for a lot of girls' educational decisions and helped them all get the schooling and education.
Yeah on the show you could tell Maddie was Mellissas favorite too. Whenever Mackenzie didn’t get to fly out with the ALDC for competitions she wouldn’t mind but if that was Maddie she would throw a fit.

I honestly don’t understand how everyone got so hung up on “fairness.” If everything were perfectly fair, everyone in the competition would get the same score. Why even have a competition at that point? The kids and parents who were most dedicated made the most opportunities for themselves, worked the hardest and won the most often. And raw talent and ability factor in as well. That’s the whole point of competing.
I think the kids would have gained more from the experience and fared better emotionally if their mothers had explained the Dance Moms experience as an opportunity to challenge themselves as dancers and see how they ranked in different genres and against different dancers instead of constantly telling them their teacher was out to get them.

If Abby had her way ALL the girls would have been honeschooled and then in the studio 8-10 hours a day. She berated Kelly and Christie for refusing to take their kids out of school. I heard them say on a few occasions about taking their kids out of school, going straight to the studio, training until 10-11pm and not getting home till midnight its child exploitation IMO. Wheres the kids time to even have a proper evening meal, relax, and do their homework? Plus sleep depravation because they had to be up again at 6am, so these kids were trying to function on less than half the sleep needed at their ages. And then Abby ranting and raving about why they had no energy??
Also the competition schedule was gruelling - seemed to be long bus rides of 7-8 hours in some cases, or flying across the country through different time zones, plus they have said themselves filming on competition day could be up to 12 hours. Then back home to start on the school/studio/competition thing all over again. It must have bern shattering

This is not new news. Even on the show the other mothers said all the time Maddy had secret privates. But They were actually kicked out of school because they were hardly there.

this is actually super normal in the professional dance world. at my studio growing up i was literally the only student who did full school days. everyone else either did half days or homeschooling so they could focus more on dance. i was gonna do the same but the program i was going to do it through fell through. the problem isn’t learning during school hours in general, it’s the abuse that went on onscreen and offscreen for these girls.

@@megmur1766 maddie and mckenzie had no reason to go to college, maddie especially. she’s been working on numerous projects since leaving dance moms and so has mckenzie. yes, school is required which is why they both got the legally required amount of schooling done. it’s probably hard to image but in the dance world it’s very very normal for kids to be homeschooled or pulled early for half days everyday in order to dance. when i was training with a professional company i would miss almost 3 weeks of school every winter as we put on the nutcracker. not everyone is passionate about school/wants to go to college.
But...what if they decide to stop dancing or no longer physically can dance (heard way too many dancers destroyed by the latter, let alone those without a life away from dance)?
Or they run out of money or they continue dancing and want to know more about the finances of the brand sponsorships they're being given...?
Education gives opportunity and taking that away from children and/or young adults to me says more about the ambitions & priorities of the parents, than the talent or interests of children.

It’s the fact that Melissa pulled one out of school, didn’t tell the other, and fed one of them with the things that she needed into the other just got the scraps she gave one of them what she needed and the other was just left there. Big shout-out to my friend Cody who gave me an immediately accessible way to pull a vacuum for silicone (albeit in small amounts.) Filling a syringe that I already had for silicone/alcohol/resin projects partway with the silicone to de-gas, capping the syringe, then continuing to pull the plunger. He even 3D printed me a little bracket to hold the plungers pulled back!
And Abby, Melissa and Maddie just lied about it, even when confronted, and pretended that Maddie was such a miraculous dancer and learner while she was just getting many more lessons and time. They even dare to expect the other kids to learn the dances in the spot, even comparing them to Maddie's capacity to do it while, in fact, she already knew the dances. It turns out that the other kids where quite fastener learners, they nailed the dances having much less time to learn and practice them

I don't think this is all "love and care for Maddie and her sister" there was a lot of screaming and humiliation, remember that trauma is not only caused when you're the one being mistreated but also when you see other kids being mistreated and humiliated. Maddie had a lot of pressure, since Abby was always saying she was "the face" of her studio and she had to win every time and let's not forget the weird things Abby did to Maddie, like kissing her and manipulating her to think she should've been against her own mother when Melissa didn't want to take her to class.
Also, never compare how different people deal with trauma or situations, Jojo could be completely okay with Abby and the things she did to her but that doesn't mean everyone else should be okay too.

Maddie was extremely gifted in academics and was in the top of her class.
Maddie was so bored in school that the schoolteachers volunteered maddie to tutor younger students for free.
Melissa AND Abby both agreed that Maddie should be dancing with her free time instead of tutoring kindergarteners on math for free/
Maddie would eventually transition to homeschooling and Holly(Nia's Mom) took responsibility for a lot of girls' educational decisions and helped them all get the schooling and education.
Yeah on the show you could tell Maddie was Mellissas favorite too. Whenever Mackenzie didn’t get to fly out with the ALDC for competitions she wouldn’t mind but if that was Maddie she would throw a fit.
