THEY WORK! Catching Catfish on Overnight DIY Juglines!

- I've building a second round of DIY catfish juglines to leave out overnight. They new ones work really well and I'm leaving them in the lake overnight to see if any catfish eat the bait. Although this is a primitive fishing technique, it still works and is easy and fun way to fish after you have the juglines built.

I like vids like this, different fishing techniques. Not like hundreds of other typical fishing vids on RUclips.
You have quickly became a carpenter my friend! So much fun to get new tools and put them to use.
You and rob should do a back packing fishing trip. Or just regular camping
OSG's getting a pretty big baby bump bro.. happy for y'all.
Blue gills are the best bait for big catfish .... Thank you for your hard work catfishing
Bluegill heads work super good.
I built these same pool noodle lines. I used a little bit longer piece of rebar. Maybe sit around the boat launch and catch some bluegill before you go out. Use the small ones whole and cut the bigger ones in chunks.
In Florida we use old ivory bar soap. Take a cheese cutter and cut the soap into sugar cube size cubes and hook it and drop in the water works really good for over night jug fishing. Give it a try
You could try an egg loop knot to help secure the bait. Or maybe a treble hook for better hook ups.
Khale hooks are awesome for trot and jug lines!
Justin, for big ol' cats, try this. For blues and channels throw out some chicken liver, wrap it in some panty hose to keep it hooked well. Hook it onto a 5/0 or 6/0 Circle hook. For the best tasting catfish (flathead). Use a little bit bigger hook and throw on some live shad/shiners or some cut bluegill. You and OSG will be eating some catfish dinner! Good luck!
If you see shad, check the TX regs on casting nets for shad and using them as live bait on the jugs.
We use bluegill as bait hooked just under the spine. Lately, we have had the best luck on shallow lines
Used to jug fish with my brother before getting into almost exclusively bass fishing. Couple tips i would give:
Circle hooks - fish pulls down and sets the hook on itself
Raw shrimp you buy at the grocery store works pretty well around here if you can't cast net some shad up for cut bait. it also doesn't stink.
We had noodles set up for 5/10/15 feet lengths as usually the thermocline wasnt much deeper than that in the heat of summer.
Medium size goldfish, bluegill and night crawlers, and skip jack work very well for catfish
I've always had good luck with tru turn catfish hooks!
I love these catfishing videos. To me bass fishing video after bass fishing video gets boring so it's a good change of pace.
Please do more videos like this
Nice video and review. we use fresh cut shad and goldfish on our jugs.
Try using the metal clips from the last to adjust your depth so you dont have a bunch of excess line hanging and put the clips at each loop for a custom length line for different locations
I love the PVC pipe thingies! Why not tie a quick release knot when using the eyelets? That way you can adjust to what ever length you need.
Hey Justin, get ya one of those inexpensive telescoping boat hooks at the marine supply, it helps ya grab the line on the jugs and you can use it to help dock your boat too.
Miter saw works great on the pvc and the noodles.
Try using a cane pole reel or an ice fishing tip up reel for reeling your line in.
Like seeing you do something different. Great ideas that get ppl thinking.
OSG IS GETTING READY TO POP!!
In the winter time for tip ups, at dark time there are these lights than you can attach to your flag and when the flag is horizontal the light is off but when you get a fish the flag goes vertical and the light flashes! You should check them out and see how the work on them!
Looks fun! Music was awesome too.
Do like what we do with longlines for halibut. Have a spool of the line and let out line from that until it hits the bottom and then make a loop and attatch the bouy to that. It works much better
When my dad and I put our lines out, we always put ours in about 10 feet or less at lake Texoma. We usually get a few good eating size a day if we check them regularly.
I also agree putting the cement weight if you leave them over night.
Fresh caught shad is hard to beat.
Might want to put a snubber on your leader leading to your hook. This will help improve your percentage of hookups I think. They are basically surgical tubing with swivels on either end of them. When a fish strikes, the surgical tubing flexes and helps set the hook for you. We used them when downrigging very deep for smaller fish that sometimes had trouble tripping the downrigger slips.
Plz do this more
I'm 12 years old and You've helped me learn how to fish. Hope someday I will get to meet you. Can you please come to Alabama
Being into woodworking you probably have the tools to do this but if you have a lathe you can cut nice spirals in the foam and wrap your line neatly that way.
Cool video. I’m definitely going to try this. Thanks
Chicken liver works great! Use sewing thread to keep it on. Just wrap it around the hook and around the liver
LFG with some dope beats!!
keep these catfish vids coming!!!
One tip for ya justin, shorten your lines so they are free floating. You'll have a much better hook up ratio
Might try making some for different depths.
Just something I picked up from years of jugging for kitties instead of the chartreuse colored tape use reflective air duct tape like the tape they use to tape air ducts in attics together.it makes it so easy to see the reflection in the dark night with a flashlight. Oh yea and a spotlight with high candela power works too
Hey and always check them all even if they aren't tripped
In summer try punch pait on a treble hook or chicken liver on a circle hook. Fresh cut bait works to
May sound weird, but the absolute best bait for jugs is Beef Stew Meat marinated in minced garlic. Have never caught anything under 2 pounds on it. Circle hooks are also your best bet to keep them on the hook better. Just a little tip to not lose so many when pulling them in, yank the line like your setting the hook on a normal fish on rod and reel, works every time. I am actually doing my first Jug Line video tonight on my channel Louisiana Outdoorsmen!
Try some night crawlers they may get hit by other fish but that’s part of the fun too
Buy a casting net and get bait from the lake. Enjoying your videos! That trick to put the T on the end of the jug is awesome
You could try some screw in hooks some small ones to screw into the pvc pipe to wrap the line around like the old school rods without reels
Cut shad has always worked by far the best for me. Take a throw net out and catch some from the body of water you're fishing I swear that helps alot too
Hi lfg my dad has brain cancer like you and your videos help me get through it
you could make a a bunch of trot lines and pre-rig them in 5 ft incremints and put a swivel on each one and just clip on the one with the depth you need.
You could rig something up like a vacuum cord wraps up. It would be easier than wrapping all the way around the noodles.
Lfg, you can also use rubber bands to set your depth
Try shad, bluegill, cut carp, etc. Maybe throw a cast net. Cool video👍
Try using dove soap soaked in garlic salt and stuff/ or make a fun video making your own dip bait combos and stuff
On the stem part below the noodle use a couple of tee’s and a couple of 90’s to loop ur line on ..reduce the size of the 90’s to cut down on weight..could help on the winding up and storage part of the process..
I’ve had soo many people tell me to use all this crazy stuff but night crawlers are the best bait till this day
you should get a cast net and get some fresh shad for bait also I usually only fish jugs 2-3ft
Take 16oz. bottles paint them white and cut a swimming noodle in 3-4 inch slices. Glue the slices to the bottle bottom with liquid nails and tie the line around the neck of the bottle and you are ready to go. The hook can be stuck in the noodle slice on the end and stacked in a milk crate to keep them all together. When I jug fish my crate has around 30 jugs in the crate and I can put them out or pick them up in just a few minutes. My lines are only 3-4 foot long because I fish the flats, but if you want to fish longer lines you can wrap the lines around the jug and use a rubber band to secure the line at a certain depth. The lines I use small trotline with a barrel swivel tied to 30 pound mono with a small hook with threaded or cut shad. Give it a try it works well and its cheap.
Big thumbs up. Hope your having a great week.
We makethese all the time, make different size leaders and put a sinker on each leader so the bait sinks faster.
You should try to catch bass with fly fishing tackle
I like putting a live bluegill or tilapia on the top and bottom hook and the middle 3 hooks I do cut bait. All on 6/0 up to even a 9/0 circle hooks depending on what body of water.
Awesome video. Might give this a try one day.
Try cutting up the hotdogs and putting them in a freezer bag with some cherry or grape jello .... That combo works pretty good for me
Cut bluegill or shad with circle hooks. Crawdads work good also clams if they allow it. Nightcrawlers would be another option
If you have a local bait shop that sells live shinners you might try getting some. I have a camp on Toledo Bend and I use shinners most of the time when I'm fishing for catfish. And the end result is usually a cooler full of fish.
A few tips:
Stick with circle hooks for increased hook up ratio, something even better would be a treble hook, but only use if you plan to eat the fish.
Look into a 3 way swivel to tie your hook of off it'll help with the fish twisting and causing tangles and getting off.
Those shad are terrible bait, grab a cast net and catch your own shad. Fun to do and can get as much bait as you need.
Proud of you for having that mora neck knife though.
Have both those set ups. If i ever had to much line i just bought some balloons and tied up to it about 1 foot of the bottom . Balloon float right beside it and is way easier to see if your getting hit. I use about 3” bream . Typically fillet them down both sides. Don’t cut the guts though. It’s basically like jigging for grouper . Usually get about 4-5 every time i use them .
I recently discovered bone in wings from Wing Stop left in the summer heat for six hours works pretty good for catfish
You must get a casting net and get real shad. It's what they feed on. Good vids, keep em coming.
You have to attach 2 ounce lead or whatever size you use on the line to the other side of the pipe. It works as a counterweight
You could try a treble hook with some hotdogs. Or stink bait (dip bait).
Put the pool noodle on the ends, pvc in the middle with the line. I catch a ton this way. Also get some reflective tape to put on the noodles. Hell of a lot easier to see with a light.
Looks like a mini dumbbell. About 9 inches total, usually have about 60 out at a time. No. Repeat no added weight.
In Alabama, we use chicken liver for jug fishing. It works really good!
Try limb lines and live perch, that’s what we use in south texas!
Your channel is the best!!!
You could add some garlic powder or cherry jello mix on those hot dogs or cherry jello mix with garlic powder on the hot dogs to give them extra kick for the catfish cuz I've learned that scent is key when it comes to catfish ☺☺
cut sunfish or raw chicken works extremely well
you can also put raw chicken into a bag, dump in a small box of strawberry jello and then cut it up and use it, they go nuts for the sweet scent
Use gallon milk jugs and stick a glow stick in the jug. You can see the jug bounce if you get bit
This video was such an inspiration to me to make some noodles like yours. I have caught a lot of kittys with them . The biggest kitty was 25 pound op
This is a nice change from the bass videos
live bluegill is also great just takes time
Defiantly use live blue gill for big flathead and blue cats
Get yourself some carp from bow fishing and cut into chunks works amazing for cats!
Cool stuff
Give treble hooks a try on one of the jugs.
Try cutting the 2 packages of hot dogs into 1" chunks. Place them into a plastic bag with 2 tbsp of minced garlic and 1 packet of strawberry Kool-Aid mix. This has worked extremely well for me. The garlic sends an oil slick in the water and the strawberry flavoring helps them hold on to the baits. Good luck.
Tip number one that you should do when your bringing up the line hook set it like a rod or pulled it up fast that way if there is one bitting it it will get hooked tip.number two raw hot dogs don’t stay on the hook that good they can easily fall off. Also your hook size and shape matters you want to use a 3/0 odd or a 4/0 odd depending how big your catfish are and I would recommend a circle hook. These are just some ideas you can use and they have worked for me before when catching cats
use a 6 size octopus hook with a heavy rod and good heavy line with fresh cut hand sized shad.
here's an idea for your noodles if your fishing at night plastic tie wrap a green lite stick on your noodles that way you can see them better an green lites attract fish for some reason
Make it go thru the bottom then like a slider and put eccses line into the top with a friction fit cap
Definitely use big trebles and use hotdogs that have been sitting in garlic. My dad is a big jug fisherman the hotdogs and skipjack are the best bait to use
CIRCLE HOOKS JUSTIN!!!
Lfg! If it's legal in Texas, catch some baitfish or smaller fish in the water you're fishing in for cats. That and shrimp. Like frozen shrimp in a bag from the store.
Another good bait I have learned works amazing is salmon fillets a bit expensive but the oils and juices they send out are kitty food
Use fresh oily cutbait and two to three inch live bluegills or sunfish.
You will have much better luck.
Also, fishing at night, try shallower water, in closer to shore.
