Rolex and Patek Philippe collectors join the wider luxury watch world as Tim Mosso wakes up with watches! Today’s show features an extensive collection of luxury watches on bracelets as well as straps plus a distinct split between luxury-class watches and true high horology models.
Bracelet watches are the hottest models of the moment. Watches from Rolex dominate the category. This morning’s show opens with a classic watch reference: Rolex Explorer 214270. Upgraded in 2010 to a 39mm case and in 2016 with a fully luminescent dial, the Rolex Explorer sports watch never has been more capable. Also unveiled at Baselworld 2016, the Rolex Daytona “ceramic bezel” is a legend in its own time; today’s example of Rolex’s racing chronograph matches its Cerachrom ceramic bezel with a sinister black lacquer dial.
Rolex dress watches also have their say in the presentation; we feature a Datejust 36 and a Day-Date 40. This Datejust is anything but a common variant thanks to a Rolex “concentric” dial, roulette date, radial Arabic numerals, and a domed Everose rose gold bezel. The Day-Date 40 launched at Baselworld 2015 and quickly supplanted the old Day Date II. Today’s example features a stunning olive green sunburst dial, white gold Roman numerals, and Rolex president bracelet in matching white gold.
Cartier belongs in any discussion of leading luxury watch brands, and the new Cartier Santos blue dial belongs in any discussion of top luxury sports watches. With Cartier’s brilliant “Quick Switch” bracelet system and “Smart Link” sizeable bracelet links, the 2018-present Santos offers practical innovation for luxury watch buyers. The 2019 Santos blue dial adds a dramatic gradient blue dial base, polished metal numerals, and luminescent broadsword hands for viewing at night.
Audemars Piguet’s 2018 Royal Oak Offshore (blue dial) and Breguet’s legendary Type XX pilots watch provide sports watch chronograph options for watch collectors who prefer their action on straps rather than bracelets.
Patek Philippe of Geneve is a giant of the watch industry, and no fewer than four models appear on today’s show. The 5970P and 5270G perpetual calendar chronographs showcase two generations of Patek’s most acclaimed complication. A year-2000 Gondolo 5100J proves that fine finish (Geneva Hallmark) and chronometry (COSC Swiss chronometer) can co-exist in a single exquisite “manta ray” case. Finally the underrated stainless steel white dial 5960/1A annual calendar flyback chronograph provides a Patek Philippe option for watch enthusiasts who prefer sportier styles and full steel bracelets.
Watches from Officine Panerai, Laurent Ferrier, Maitres du Temps, and Germany’s A. Lange & Sohne round out today’s selection.

That Cartier Santos blue is winning at life...
The Cartier Santos really is an everyday piece. Very nicely conceived.
That santos de cartier 2019 might just be the most beautiful watch ever created.
Watching 2.5 years later. I miss this show format, was cool seeing Tim with all the watches laid out on the table like that.
Thanks Tim. Can always count on WatchBox Reviews for my weekly A Lange fix. Have a nice day.
Thanks for this kind feedback. I probably look forward to these showcases just as much as you do.
Best,
Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews please help me get my weekly breguet fix :)
@@0xss 17:05 There you go. Don't get greedy! 😉
Laurent Ferrier is my favorite watch on the table💙
Some great pieces, Tim. The LF was my favorite today. Interesting dial and, as always, superlative movement finishing. Love the Santos's new gradient blue dial and lumed hands - would love to see them on the mid-size reference. And, that blue lacquer dial on the Breguet is pretty special, and what a value! But I'm holding out for the next-gen Type XX, which I'm hoping will feature the styling and dimensions of the Type 20 Only Watch.
Totall agree about ferrier Tim!!! I like a thicker width in stripes, so Laurent takes it for me. A lot of the Moritz Grossman stuff is 🤤 for that reason!!!
Thanks for supporting the show, Zach! Gathering and sharing these watches is a highlight of my week.
Best,
Tim
That Laurent Ferrier is W O W !
Isn't that special? It's a true joy to examine either side of that watch. Finish is world-class, and I'd rate it above many of the best group brands and independents. And the watches are a better pre-owned buy than Journe or Patek.
Best,
Tim
The Cartier Santos with blue dial is so nice 👍
That is a great-looking Day Date, and the pivoted end links absolutely make it wearable for a lot more people, me (and indeed you) included, although the 36 Datejust was a slightly better fit, albeit not as much my taste in colour as the green. Nice show, as ever. I was considering getting an Explorer 2, but the 41 - well I won't go into sizing again - which leaves really the used 16570 (with the glossy black dial and the 3185 movement - better than the 3186 in my opinion) - as the only option I like all around. I am reticent about buying used watches, though, given all the fakes around. Maybe I'll just buy one from you guys, or that Day Date.
A remarkable set of watches. Almost every piece is to die for but for me the LF and the Santos just a short nose in front on today’s collection review
That Cartier would be amazing in XL 38mm with diamonds on a blue alligator strap
Tim , you make me addicted to your channel . Probably the best watches review channel.
A watch I've yet to see featured anywhere is the Blancpain FF bathyscsphe ref 5100-..... Would've been awesome to see
The Santos with a 36mm width would be a perfect watch. Its a beautiful watch nevertheless.
Keep up the great work with this show Tim. I love starting my day with it 👍
Tim, what's it like to wind up an 8-Day watch, it must have a lot more tension and take longer?
The older I get, the smaller the watches I prefer...
Awesome video. All watches really amazing. Great job!
Beautiful watches. Great job.
First time watching your show, amazing very well informed review and you show all the unique features of a watch if they have any well done 👍🏽
not often I go against A. Lange and Sohne, but the laurent Ferrier is the better watch iin my humble opinion. That dial is killer!! Love it!!
Your reviews are just amazing
Would love to see some different variations of that Santos. Green dial/yellow gold anyone?
Tim I'm so addicted to your channel,,, to learn more about horology especially those that I will unlikely able to own. Thanks!
Thanks for all of your support, Alvin! What kind of features would you like to see on this channel in the future? I'm considering an unboxing series that would document each model and clarify exactly what it supposed to be included in a full factory set for any particular watch. The idea would be to create a reference for boxes and papers that's parallel to my product videos.
Best,
Tim
Hi Tim,,, unboxing very much overly done by others. If I may suggest, I will think super close-up micro shots will makes many of us both drool & wet our pants... especially on those highly crafted timepieces really deserved a close-up shots to showcase their degree of craftsmanship. It will really do justice for those beautiful timepieces. Apart from this, I couldn't think of any improvement required for your guys because you all already is seriously crazy good. Thanks Tim for making me realise how much I love about watches after learning more.
WatchBox Reviews While I agree that unboxing videos are a little over done, I do like your idea to include what is included. For example, every time you review the VC Overseas you mention the switchable strap system, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you show either of the leather and rubber straps included.
Honestly, if the only you can organically show these details is through an unboxing video, I’ll still watch it, and won’t complain. I’m here for whatever content you provide.
I was thinking that is seems like a lot of the watches reviewed are wonderful, but so out of reach out 95% of the people watching. Don't get me wrong, the Patek's, APs, ALS, are beautiful to see and marvel at. But it would be nice to see a little more in the sub $10k range. Regardless, I won't stop watching because your guys do incredible work and I am waiting for the "real" Tim to crack open the human chrysalis he resides in now and expose his true alien form. When he does, I know he will be wearing a DeBethune.
Awesome show Tim, I really like the A. Lange & Söhne Travel time, but my favorite has to the PP 5960/1A-001 Annual Calendar Chronograph
Thanks Abdul. I enjoyed that Patek tremendously. Given its discontinued production, complications, and rarity compared to any Nautilus, I'm convinced that the 5960/1A is a better preowned buy than any Nautilus or even any Aquanaut.
Best,
Tim
Santos blue dial is beautiful. Is this available at your Philadelphia store, I'll be planning a visit to the city in couple weeks. Hoping to make a pit stop at the brick and mortar store...
Love Lange but that electric dial of the Laurent Ferrier is on another level.
Laurent Ferrier dials are a highlight of the brand. From sunbursts to cloisonné to this miniature painting of the globe, LF is more adventurous with this part of the watch than say, Patek would be.
Best,
Tim
I still dont see a link for the Panerai contest

Hi Tim, interesting spread for breakfast today. My favs are the Rolex Explorer 39, what a great looking watch, all the classic understatement that is the brand and the Cartier Santos who's style, features, and price define value (this morning anyway). Keep it coming.
It's a shame that Rolex doesn't make any of the fun DJ in 41mm size. Feel like 36mm is too small.
Well... it's a shock to think you would think of that as a shame.
Good morning and great video!
Thank you! I'll be back in action with a new set this Sunday.
Best,
Tim
That Breguet is amazing!
Wakey wakey! Hi from Oslo! Wow, I was almost blinded by that gorgeous Cartier dial! 🤩
That's one of my favorite watches of the year; I'd even like to own one. Thanks for supporting my show from Oslo!
Best,
Tim
Thank you so much for adding the prices in the description. If you put them in order of appearance instead of alphabetic, it will be orgasmic. (the ultimate will be the links to the watchbox website for each model.
I'm working on a system that will allow users to see the time stamp for each watch (with a link) so that you can jump straight to the model that interests you. My priorities don't always match the rest of the marketing staff, so it'll probably have to wait.
Best,
Tim
U r doing a great job, can’t watch u live cause of time difference but I never miss an episode. One last suggestion, on the website to add retail price to the model description if not discontinued, helps newbies like me to understand what discount or appreciation to expect if we negotiate brand new from an AD
I really like the Cartier Santos
With the exception of the Cartier, I Hated Them All!
Wow some lovely watches....thank you Tim
I dont think smart link is as useful as an on-the-go micronadjustment as once you size a watch thays done. Im praying that they make a maroon dial version of that Santo
It's a useful feature if you're giving the watch as a gift, because the new owner can size it and wear it on the spot.. And if you've been wearing the watch on the accessory strap for a few months after purchase, you might only get around to sizing the bracelet long after leaving the dealer. Finally, I'm in favor of any bracelet sizing system that prevents the inevitable screwdriver gouging and scratches. As an employee of a major pre-owned dealer, I see a ton of that.
Best,
Tim
The Olive green Panerai, I could rock that watch. Great selection againTim!
You should tell your viewers how much the watches cost.
The Explorer and Datejust Roulette at the beginning really looked stellar under this lighting setup, the best that I’ve seen them thus far. Exquisite Lange’s as per the norm! I particularly liked the look/finish of the continents on that LF travel watch’s dial, that dark dial in general actually. And those movements on the chronograph/perpetual calendar Patek’s, always a pleasure to look at. And finally that Panerai Luminor was really nice too, front and back. Just wish it were 4 or 5mm smaller.
Thanks, David. Even when I select Rolex models for the show, I try to pick out more engaging or distinctive examples; the world needs only so many RUclips videos about steel Subs and that Daytona I shared. The Day-Date and Datejust featured today were more my speed.
Best,
Tim
I agree about the Explorer, made we want one for the first time ever.
Bud Owens 😄 me too!
Cartier Santos for me
Great selection Tim. 👍 5970P is 😍
Glad to see Panerai getting some screen time..
Tim - what do you think about the pusher feel of the newer Omega 9900 Chronograph?
It's pretty good. Not industry-leading, but nobody will mistake them for cam-selectors.
Best,
Tim
Damn that Cartier is beautiful
Would love to see a Cartier Tank Solo XL featured on the show.
That Cartier Santos made me :O ... stunning
So much incredible knowledge. Whatever they pay you Tim, it can't be enough! Although I'm still disappointed that my wristshot wasn't featured in your show ;-)
I would really like to see the omega globemaster steel bracelet blue dial, the zenith defy classic blue full bracelet (non skeletonized) and the oris pointer date steel bracelet blue dial ( Blue is my favorite color.
MAN ! JUST WOW ! I thoroughly enjoy your show , you have put all the others to shame ! With your knowledge and speaking ability just wow thank you .
I just liked and subscribed now I guess I’ll just go and drop the others
hi Tim, it would be great to see a seagull vs a any other column wheelwatch ,
Is it me or did he miss that Pepsi GMT in the front? nevertheless awesome line-up, love it
Alex Eyben someone probably bought it during the show. Just kidding, I don't know why it got skipped.
FYI, I don't like movements where there is a large bridge that covers all the gears, etc. Maybe just me.
That LF is absolutely sick. Just wish I had the $$$ for one!
no video on latest james bond watch anywhere
When I have an example, I'll feature it here.
Best,
Tim
Omegas are a fashion brand, good for teenagers.
Tim could sort Brexit!
Man that Cartier Santos to me........is the BEST. In 10 years all the fake fanboys is going to have it stay with your rolex. Only genuine watch people please.
I totally agree with you Tim on the domed rolex bezel , beats the conical and fluted bezel anytime. If i get a rolex it would be with this bezel- so either datejust 36 or OP 39 for me
This guy presents watches like the Micro Machine guy of the 1980's. Well played. It would be a 90 min video otherwise.
The Santos is very nice as well, and cheap for what it is.
I agree on all counts. Our old friend Josh Thanos and I were discussing the latest Santos, and we agreed that Cartier perfected the already convincing 2018 watch with this 2019 dial evolution.
Best,
Tim
I bought the cartirer classic with white dial.. Just for the bracelet, and trust me when i say he cna put Audermas bracelet to shame
For me that Larent Ferrier stole the show
Great mix of hi horological watches. PP collectors, LF, AP, an others. No omega your thoughts about the new omega seamaster 300 James Bond black ceramic dial 18k gold hands an indences. Box set strap an bracelet looks like a winner. Look for your next show sir. You are the man on this channel. Happy hunting for your next watch (Z blue). Safe cycling.
He sold me on the Santos when he said all for under seven Grand. But when he put it on wrist it looked to small. It looks like a nice sport watch for guys with thin wrists though. I myself woulda took the Green faced automatic panerai. To me that's one beautiful watch.
It's not gloss.
Imagine the Cartier Santos shown here suddenly becoming the must have watch, subsequently breaking 5711 price levels in secondary market. I would laugh so, so hard.
It's a solid product that deserves accolades -- and sales! The Patek may be more refined, but there's no doubt that the Cartier's bracelet is light years removed from the crude assembly of the Patek equivalent.
Best,
Tim
I'm buying an AP royal oak in a month, thanks again for your videos!
My pleasure! These group-showcase videos remain the highlight of my job.
Best,
Tim
Cartier and Pateks are the winners hands down.
Oh this is perfect.
Thanks for supporting my show, Bob!
Best,
Tim
I’v tried on the santos 2018 large and I also have a 16cm wrist, so how come it looked absolutely , almost cartoonishly huge on my wrist, yet on yours it wears with ease??🤔
And a follow-up question: I’ve heard about how easily this bezel shows scratches. is this santos’ polished bezel more prone to scratches than any other polished bezel out there?
I'm sure the Lange posse will be after me for this, but the LF Galet wins that comparison. The Night Blue has been my grail since it's introduction. Nice to hear you agree Tim. It is my favorite world timer because of just the reasons you state, understated in the best ways. I'll give you one more and you know it already as a motorsports guy. LF finished third to another famous racer with a watch connection, Paul Newman at LeMans. The winners that day were the infamous Whittington brothers.....
Why r they called Arabic if they look like normal numbers???
RAIDER NATE because numerals that we use, that we just call numbers originated with the Arabs?
Glasses glued onto the head
For now. Management says they have to go away at some undetermined future point.
Best,
Tim
@@the1916companywatchreviews Tim, please tell the management that if the glasses go away, so will I :)
Your show was another triumph! And as to favorites, hmm, I guess the DayDate was a good one, and plausible for me atleast aesthetically. I also can't get the Santos out of my head. And that one may be plausible budget wise.
Good show as usual Tim!! Brilliant selection of all "Panerai's" but the "Breguet" chronograph with bi-directional bezel is most unique indeed. Would it be technically correct to describe it as a "Dress sports timepiece"? Or a "Very elegant sports chronograph timepiece"? Whats your opinion on this Tim? I would be interested to hear!! Regards........
It's jarring to hear about Rolex while the rest of the watches are true high horology. Like going to a supercar car show and seeing some tractors parked next to Bugattis.
Many collectors have a great interest in Rolex, so I cover the brand extensively. There are plenty of Koenigseggs and Rimacs on the table any time I record one of these shows.

Tim

You talked way too much and showed the box more than the actual watch. No wrist shots, nothing smh. With that said, very nice watch, enjoy.
Great show as always, I just wondered I never really see any RM’s or Hublot on your shows, are you not a fan Tim?

We're working on it. We may need to run that kind of contest out of one of our international offices in order to comply with national laws. The list of eligible nations is limited by certain tax and import laws that have slowed the rollout of new geographies.

Is anybody happy with the decreased live shows? Much less interaction with each other (fans) and with Tim. This especially hits hard when Brian bombs out on Wednesday which is a reliable disappointment. Tim, the product has gotten worse -- not better. The same is true for the Versus series: it's gotten worse -- not better.
I'm sorry to be so negative....I think I'm so down on these changes because of how much I like WatchBox and it's content.
