Game I slapped on just to have something for your eyes is Backpack Hero.
I let this bad boy process for 15 mins and the sound was still janked for a while after it went up.
Next week I'll try half an hour!
sounds pretty good now
As a joke once, I played a paladin as a racist cop who hated orcs
The DM decided to have some fun with it and every time there happened to be an orc within earshot, we’d eventually get into a fight
After like 3 months of my party goading my character’s racism out, we had a BAAAAD fight that ended with all of our armors being destroyed
My party was shocked when my character was revealed to be a half orc. When they began questioning him, I answered “My mother went insane when an orc raped her. I fight this menace in her name” and everyone in the party gave me the biggest WTF look of all time
A fun fact i was taught by a writer, never use grape as a part of your plot if you can use anything else.
Nice. I hope that story actually happened because that's pretty legit.
@@jackhazardous4008 not a fact
@@jackhazardous4008 why? It's something awful that happens. It can be a valid character origin and it's a complex topic.
When did people get so frail? Unless you're audience is kids, I can't see a reason why you can't use such a mature topic.
@@chuck2703 it's more because what you think you have to say on the topic of grape is never as deep and meaningful as you think it is. Assuming you dont make a joke out of it
I'm tired of the "racism" debate, but what really weirds me out in its specificity is how 5E brands gnolls as "the one race that is definitely evil," going so far as to rewrite everything to make them even worse. Like, what happened there? Because clearly the 5E staff has no problems with furries given the other shit they've gotten up to. Did somebody on the team just have a really, really bad experience with a gnoll player? Did he see too much vore porn on FurAffinity?
@Mercaius It's because of the Lion King.
@@noonenowhere877 Damn I think you cracked it. Nala awoke something in them and they've been closeted ever since
it's really strange how the companies that produce nerdy content- rpg makers, comic producers, miniature companies- blame their customers for the supposed racism and sexism in their products instead of taking responsibility for it themselves. a few years ago a miniature game i played blamed the player base for the fact that there weren't a lot of women who played it. i guess the urge to bully nerds is universal.
Well thats because those in the company saying it are new hires, usually hired because they cried racism ot whatnot and the company wanted to say they were a good guy
Remember, the Hadozee. Nobody told wizards of the coast to portray them the way they did. That was entirely their idea. The thing I’ve learned throughout life is, if people accuse other people of being something it’s usually projection. I have never found any D&D players in my experience who were bigoted in anyway. If anything, the way, Dnd naturally is usually leads to people from the LGBT and other minorities joining the game in droves. I’ve met more trans people running dungeons and dragons game than I ever would have in real life in other activities.
Just remember the Big Bang Theory was made by jocks four jocks to make fun of nerds
Racism belongs in DnD. Them damn pointy ears.
Pelinal did nothing wrong.

It's a well-known fact that Orc war chants constantly refer to greeggas, which is only a racial slur when used by non-orcs.

Didnt drow get an int bonus in 3.5? That makes them SMARTER than most playable races
Just like die clever Deuschlanders, ja?
Half of the reason I made a Goblin Warlock was because I wanted to play a character hated by the world for what he was, while able to hide what I am (mask of many faces to look like a halfling). My DM then set it in a setting where Goblins were just seen as people (he was already planning on that, it was just bad luck with my plans)
Same reason why I played as an Orc in Morrowind, I saw they were hated and I was curious how my character would be treated. Suffice to say I wasn't disappointed.
Aww DM should have told you ahead of time though
I have played D&D off and on since 2001, when I was in the 6th grade. I've *NEVER* run an official game. Whether I DM or join another person's campaign, we have ALWAYS run our own worlds, with their own lore and worldbuilding, own races, etc. What we use from the D&D rulebooks is mostly stat blocks and rules, to keep things cohesive and easier to do things quickly; so we don't have to create an entire damn game and mechanics for it from scratch each time we want to play. Even then, most of it is winged by the DM's whim, to keep things less autistically hyperfocused on "THE RULES" and more exciting and fun for the experience.
Homebrew is the true D&D experience. None of the official books will ever meet the experience of a project of love from a dedicated DM.
Dawg, if I mention goblins and you think of Jewish people: that sounds like a _you_ problem.
Remember the days when people understood that offense is never given, it's taken....
Knife Ears get the spears. Put the shortstacks in the racks. Roast the Orcs like porks. Humies go boomies.

The very first sentence you read highlights the grand irony of this situation. Orcs were meant to be the inherently evil barbarian race you fight at low-mid level. Because they felt the need to humanize orcs for whatever reason, gnolls were instead made MUCH more evil, in ways that are disturbing even for me. How long before some journalist decides gnolls are an allegory for an indigenous cannibal tribe and we have to find new low level cannon fodder? A lot of these problems would be solved if they used the term "species" instead of "races". And no, the existence of half-orcs does not inherently mean they are the same species as humans. There are many fertile half-breeds in the world like those from lions and tigers or polar bears and brown bears. Even humans were known to breed with neanderthals, an entirely different species.
Lol no dude. It won't matter how many times you rephrase or reword something, they will still come after it because they decided fiction has to be a reflection of reality. They see orcs and how they behave as offensive because it reminds them of how black people behave. There is no stopping them until people collectively say "shut up go away" and stop paying people who listen to them.
are half-orcs fertile? One sign of a species is that their mixed offspring cannot reproduce.
I dunno much about DnD, but that is sometimes thrown in for mixed races in fantasy.
@@Wyzai The lore for that is irrelevant. Lions and tigers, brown bears and polar bears, humans and neaderthals. The hybrids of all three have parents of different species, and all three are fertile. Modern humans are living evidence of that, given most of us have 1-3% neaderthal genes. Really, there's no hard and fast rules for what defines a species, it's more so a case of asking "are they different enough". Otherwise, you would have cases of animals that have much less genetic distinction between each other who are considered different species simply because of the sterile hybrid technicality.
Species and races are basically the same thing. Just species is a allowed term and race isn't. But even if you called them different species it doesn't really matter because most of the fantasy races that can be called racist are humanoids so it would just be seen as splitting hairs.
As long as they bring back ability mod bonuses, sure.
My first time DMing, I actually did play up racial stereotypes and adapt them into Fantasy races. My players were various races irl. The stereotypes were absolutely offensive on purpose and my players loved it lol. Telling a hispanic player that his drow wears a sombrero to counter his sunlight sensitivity made him laugh. My black player playing an orc was scared to go near water bc he couldnt swim. The only one that the party actually mocked was the only white player bc when they called him white he said "no im Bohemian." xD
This was maybe a year before the Orcs = blacks articles started coming out so I asked those players what they had thought of the sessions. They all said they loved it. They said they knew I was just "taking the piss" and that the humor was quite fun. Some even asked if I could DM for them again. lol. Normal minorities are just like everyone else; tbh minorities tend to have better humor about racist stuff in my experience bc its only weirdo leftists, usually wealthy white folks who take issue with these things.
Play your games how you want and if someone is offended they should talk to you and leave if y'all cant come to an agreement. But these articles pushing sjw ideals are just the modern satanic panic bullshit.
oh man this takes me back...

Race and sexuality are the two most boring aspects of a humans persona. The sooner society moves away from these flaccid obsessions the better
Dude it is awesome to have you back making content like this!!!
If you keep going like this I promise that you will be the first person I fund through patreon!
ugh, "no audio" posts are the new "whooah 301 views?????"
"you think we look like orcs"
yes
My favourite character I've played was a drow raised by dwarves as a child, who lost all respect from the dwarves around her after accidentally murdering their brother-in-law. The character considers themselves a dwarf, despite being born drow, despises other drow to unreasonable levels, and hates being compared to other drow because, as far as they're concerned, they aren't a drow, despite having drow blood. If this bullshit about "D&D is racist" was something more people actually believed, it would completely ruin this character, because the entire point of the character is to prove to their family and their homeland that they aren't the same person who made that mistake, and to prove to everyone else that, despite being a dirty dark-skinned knife-ear by birth, they are a proud dwarf in every other conceivable way.
But of course, shit for brains are gonna cry racism, because they need to make sure their pet ni- I mean, their beloved POCs are protected from the evil hateful huwhite man, even in places where there's nothing for them to make the quantum leap of logic required to make the connection.
The BBEG faction of my home brew setting is built on racism. Sure it has humans elves, dwarves, halflings, and even in some places orcs living together harmoniously. But it treats animal like raves as animals: centaurs are forced to pull carriages, minotaurs are kept as live stalk for food and leather, kenku are kept as pets, lizardmen are trained as guard animals, ect. If you're gonna have racism in your fantasy setting get creative with it.
The funny thing is that if you look at things beyond a surface level, D&D has been pretty good about things since at least 3rd edition. There are no differences in stats between different ethnicities or sexes of the same species, ie "everyone's equal". What do have tangible differences are species, which is kinda dumb to argue otherwise. Does anyone really think a species that has an extra ~60lbs of muscle compared to a human, or one that doesn't process emotions the same way as humans by virtue of being a friggin' reptile would develop the exact same cultural and social norms?
Exactly! And that's the whole fun of imagining different races
With regards to orcs, some of that complaint Kim's from the fact that a half orc has a -2 to intelligence. People are taking that bouncing ball and running too far with it, claiming that if you say that then you're saying that everybody of that race is by default a lower intelligence. Making it no different than making a racist comment about a real world person. It's absurd and ridiculously reductive. The idea that there might be a race in a fantasy setting that is a little less intelligent than others isn't a horrible thing, and the first thing that every version of Dungeons & Dragons has said is that there are always outliers. And Rule zero is to make your own fun. These were people that were going out of their way to find something to complain about and then blow it up as much as possible, and tie it into psychological theories that indicate that if you play games with this kind of mindset now, it will frame you as an adult and you will make those assumptions as an adult.
As for dark elves, on one hand they are pretty progressive. They are a matriarchal society, men are second class citizens, and they are very dangerous. On the other hand, I have to be fair and point out that going all the way back to the very first examples, the art for drow were very clearly inspired by people with certain, shall we say, interest. Chainmail bikinis, full chest, long wavy hair, whips. The way they treat the men, yeah this is a little bit like the gor books. Little harder to defend in a way, but still harmless
Oh boy, I sure can't wait for Dungeons and Dragons: Harrison Bergeron Edition.
But why can’t the drow be super pale. Visual language does matter it’s not stupid, it’s a significant part of meaning making.
They could be pale with black hair, but then that sounds like a vampire.
this is why 40k has the only acceptable Orc design.
This has actually been going on a lot further back then that. Check out Kasimir Urbanski - RPGPundit or his websites. SJW's have been at this for awhile, I think the earliest I can remember was Ron Edwards and the story-teller movement, and I think that was back in the 90's.
Well orcs are Russians now idk why but at least blacks are safe
just play Eberron tho
Just a little bit of hope for our future:
From what I have heard there is finally a new counter culture forming among Teens! Kids rebelling against woke culture, gender nonsense and policing of speech.
It seems like finally the pendulum starts to swing the other side.
Just like how older generations rebelled against the "everything is Satanic" BS, teens today are rebelling against the "everything is offensive" BS
I would say to simply not support these people and stick with older editions but wizards has been on a warpath to go after old editions. They are actively limiting a game based on creativity.
print an original older edition from the interwebs, I guess. No need to pay them for propaganda.
I’ve gotten sick of the woke racist bullshit coming from wizards of the coast. I started writing my own ruleset. They don’t have to be supported if you don’t like them. Play other RPGs, make your own. Don’t play by their rules, pun intended.
Yeah, fantasy in general *has* had this problem, and its a good thing to watch out for: its easier than many think to make something you believe is completely separate from IRL social issues, but actually making something that reads very much like that. Not to mention the cases of actual bad actors in the writing world doing it intentionally. But 5th edition DnD? I don't know, I feel like people are pushing their insecurities about never wanting to offend people onto these fantasy races and the people who use them in their games, and in the process are themselves being incredibly racist.
Dungeons and Dragons has been poz shit since I was in high school. Moved onto WoD. I know white wolf is pozzed too
Harmfull, you got this very wrong. The underlying issue here is that racism IS ACTUALLY OK! Humans are only one race, the same species, orks are not. The issue is semantics because.
Well said. Things aren't wrong because they're morally incorrect, they're wrong because they inaccurately describe reality. We've lost that distinction in the last ten years for some reason, though I think we knew it for a while.
This take isn't racist enough for my tastes.
Any chance of the vids on the mitabrin channel getting listed again? There were some classics there
I think it makes for an interesting story if an orc or half-orc needs to grapple with the morality of those around them, and question their own morals. Saying "all orcs have a blood lust" may be boring in some context, but showing that some orcish cultures are problematic (to put it lightly) and having a character say "I want to be better than that," is fun.
This is not meant to be rude. It’s race as in fantasy race (species), a group of people (stereotypes of a group, but not a race but a culture) is about the group, not the individual, people are different and we know that, we just need simplicity, a group of writers couldn’t possibly portray literally every person from a culture, it’s just our opinions, also think of other species (like a dog or cat) they usually are similar, it’s part of their genetics.
Orcs could be a metaphor for black people. A netflix original film did that. On the other hand "...What's the difference between an orc and some of say the jewish faith?". Bigotry has options.
6:45 Wait... dark elves are stupid? Since when. Drow (dark elves) are almost always described as exclusively cunning and clever. Evil sure, but very far from dumb.
I'm pretty sure at least in the lore dark elves are way above humans in intelligence. Downside is they are also usually very sadistic. Pros and cons.
The one thing that always bothered me about fantasy games is the complete lack of racism. That's why i love games like Arcanum.
Glad you're back to making this kind of content dude. Missed your dulcet tones and cogent argumentation.
Well, it helps that DnD has more than one actual race.
Maybe I need to look in to GURPS, then?
I remember playing P-Rad in the 90s as a kid. The female human STR would go up to 18/50 while the males would go up to 18/00.
There's nothing wrong with racism in a fantasy game. Racism exists. There will always be racism. If you project your IRL sensitivities in to a game that is meant to be an escape from IRL and you're wound so effing tight that a not real person insulted your not real personification, you need therapy. You are supposed to take the role of the person in the game, not be yourself in a different setting. Okay, your character doesn't like racism. Neither do I IRL but people like Nazeem exists as do the Thalmar.
Why is Skyrim okay by the masses (more than 30 million copies of the game, spanning three console generations) yet Thalmar are overtly racist, Nords hate everyone, Lard Harkon literally is a genocidal maniac wanting to change the world to only include what he thinks is the superior race (I remember being taught that a certain German did something exactly like this not too long ago... can't quite put my finger on it... I mustache someone for help with this one)...
I'm not sorry that racism exists in my not real setting.
lol in D&D there is ONE Human race, and it draws no artificial distinctions based on skin color.
don't get me wrong, i find making all orcs evil to be kinda lazy, but I don't see them as black people
