Floating villages in Cambodia offer a unique glimpse into a way of life that has adapted harmoniously to the country's diverse water systems. Located predominantly around the Tonle Sap Lake, these villages are home to communities that live on stilted houses or floating structures, navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with a semi-aquatic lifestyle. One of the most iconic floating villages is Kompong Phluk, where houses are built on tall stilts that rise and fall with the fluctuating water levels of the lake. During the rainy season, the water can rise dramatically, and the villages seem to float effortlessly on the surface. In contrast, during the dry season, the homes are often left high and dry, and the local inhabitants adapt by using canoes for transportation. The culture in these floating villages is rich and vibrant, and life revolves around the water. Fishing is a principal source of livelihood, and local markets often boast a variety of fresh fish and other aquatic products. Visitors to these villages can immerse themselves in this unique way of life, partaking in activities like fishing, learning traditional crafts, or enjoying local cuisine. Those who call the floating villages home can not attend public schools, own property, get a factory job, attain a driver's license or open a bank account. Surviving primarily on subsistence fishing the average household annual income of a Tonle Sap family is $500USD. Moreover, the floating villages are a testament to the resilience of the communities that inhabit them. Despite facing challenges such as changing environmental conditions and developments in infrastructure, the people continue to maintain their traditions and way of life. Tourists are often drawn to these locations for their beauty, cultural significance, and the opportunity to witness a lifestyle that is rapidly disappearing in other parts of the world. Overall, floating villages in Cambodia represent a vibrant intersection of culture, nature, and adaptation, making them a fascinating part of the country's heritage. 🇰🇭❤ 0:00 - Random Village Snacks; 6:33 - Arriving At Floating Village; 15:34 - Private Boat Forest Tour; 22:42 - 50 USD Surprise For Villager; 33:07 - Inside Floating Local Market; 37:54 - 50 USD Surprise For Captain; 41:07 - Roadside Dinner With Locals.
At 30:46 the boat lady said " She has 9 children, all her children has a family and kids, Her Husband has couldn't make a living here so he left to Thailand for work.
Davud; Local Asian people, they afraid of talking about, for example croc where it is obviously does exist. Instead, they used jargon word like Ie. rowing ship for croc or something. In 1960; villagers told my mom to stay overnight but she insisted to go because it was 3 PM and her home just about 5km away. They told her "the tall". In that region, "the long" is snake and the tall is the ten meter tall ghost. My mom met him sat on the road. When he saw my mom, he stood up for my mom to pass. My mom ran about a km and reached the village. Villagers saw my mom, immediately, they knew my mom met that ghost. They spent about half an hour to do "returning soul" ritual. Then the men accompany my mom to her village about 2km away. The villagers told my father that, people died about 3 weeks after the haunted. A week later, my father moved out of that village to town.
Cambodian people are honest, hospitable and fulfilled with the humanity. They live happily whether they rich or not. Love to be in Cambodia in the near future to feel this amazing hospitality. Appreciate your best giving moments to the community. Specially they deserve it. Go ahead. Loving regards from Sri Lanka...❤❤❤
Yes khmer people are very big on kindness and honesty. Lying, deceiving or even past judgment on others can lead to bad karma or even bring it upon your family. Its just part of their culture to be so nice. But there is good and bad people every where.
The lady on the boat have 9 children and her husband have no job in Cambodia so he went to Thailand to work. I appreciate and thank you for visiting and helping my people.
The floating villages are a unique experience. Beautiful and extremely one of a kind experience. Nice and lovely people all around. Thanks Davud for choosing something not seen before.
Very beautiful video. May God keep you happy like this. You are very kind. Your love is amazing. May your generosity continue. We also get great pleasure in travelling with you. Best wishes David.
27:52 I think the lady on the boat said that they were looking for shellfish 30:30 she said she has 9 kids and that her husband went to Thailand for work
Thank you for your kindness and generosity towards the khmer people. May the Lord bless with richness in health, wealth and longevity. 🙏🙏🙏 and the lady on the boat said they were looking for snails to eat. Crocodiles are rare in Cambodia. If they arent on the menu they are praised as protectors of the land in some areas.
Salute to person who initiate this idea, incredible experience to you & me as well, protecting environment & the same time promoting tourism. Hard life 😢 ladies are taking the lead 🙏♥️ love from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 🇱🇰 ♥️ 🇰🇭 lovely people in Cambodia 🙏
Haha that child, God bless him, looks so happy. That's why children are the best of all creations, they are innocent, smiling all the time, not worrying about 9 to 5 job, not worrying about bad grades nor bills, but just enjoying life. Kids are the best! God bless Cambodia, its amazing people and God bless you mr Davud for being so generous, caring, compassionate and wise.
Been to Cambodia 🇰🇭 but never got a chance to do the floating village tour. Definitely would like to visit once I get a chance to go back, thanks for sharing and appreciate your support to the Cambodian people. ❤

Btw, the lady said she has nine children and they all grown up. Her husband went to Thailand to look for work.
