  • On August 17, 2022, Nova Scotian social workers were invited to a webinar with NSCSW staff member N Siritsky, RSW, to explore the root causes of workplace burnout, related ethical considerations, and ways to address them.
Understanding the causes of a problem is crucial to begin to understand how to fix it. While vicarious trauma and secondary distress are real concerns for social workers, often burnout and compassion fatigue are the result of other factors such as policy or management practices.
NSCSW members can watch this webinar to fulfil part of the newly mandated professional development requirements for all Nova Scotian social workers. When adding a record to your professional development inventory, you can categorize this session as either_ training in social work ethics_, or _training for prevention/management of vicarious trauma & secondary stress_. Visit nscsw.org/pd for more information about the updated professional development requirements for social workers in Nova Scotia.
