5:09 I just want to say. I was raised Eastern-Orthodox, coming from Romania, an Orthodox country. Our priests are way more caught up with concerns about their spouse, their kids, and that brings along other concerns. You mentioned being in a lay prayer movement. Here you have to make an appointment to go to confession, because priests simply don't have time for you. The devotion Catholic priests bring to their church, is a blessing.

Thank you for this perspective from the other side. We only seem to get the Catholic perspective, and the liberals among us seem to find every nonsensical excuse to justify marriage of priests. Again, it's Catholics living in Protestant countries that are more sold on to the idea.

Thank u.. I find the married priest concept even an aberration.. if the priest marries then will he able to commit himself to the church completely?? Well, I have small children and let me tell u, they take away all of my spare time.. so, a married priest might find it really impossible to manage his priestly and family duties together..

My priests are not married and I still have to make an appointment. I am not distressed by that though, I think it's perfectly ok to make an appointment because even though they dont have families as they do lots of church and community work.

I understand the theology of the priest and nun being married to the church but that’s not really the reality. The church is Christ’s bride not the clergy’s bride. The celibacy discipline is still a holy act and it’s great but doesn’t mean that some who are ordained shouldn’t be allowed to marry if they so wish

We have a priest Young Married to his wife on the third child. He's a Diocesan Catholic priest at St Rita's in Dallas Tx. We need to throw the doors wide open to men married to women. ( He was Episcopalian convert) Everyone loves him. Celibacy should be optional not a Force choice which keeps married men out of the priesthood. Also priests were allowed to marry for a long time before 1 Pope came along and just changed it right out of the blue

One CANNOT serve the Church and take care of a wife and family too.
1 Cor 7:8 - "To the unmarried and to widows I say: IT IS GOOD FOR THEM TO STAY AS THEY ARE, like me."
1 Cor 7:32-33 - "I should like you to HAVE YOUR MINDS FREE from all worry. THE UNMARRIED MAN GIVES HIS MIND TO THE LORD'S AFFAIRS AND TO HOW HE CAN PLEASE THE LORD; BUT THE MAN WHO IS MARRIED GIVES HIS MIND to the affairs of this world and TO HOW HE CAN PLEASE HIS WIFE, and he is DIVIDED IN HIS MIND."
If you believe in the Bible, you cannot believe in married priests.
As an authentic Catholic I would NEVER attend a mass where there is a married priest. ALL priests should be heterosexual, celibate virgins, and nothing else. That is what I was brought up to believe, and that is what I will believe until the day I die.

Hey guys, thanks for responding. I'll address both comments here. We too have a married priest in our diocese and I greatly appreciate his ministry. I am open, as well, to the possibility of married priests in the Catholic Church. As long as it's not just a reaction to scandal or a misunderstanding of the theology of celibacy. John, I think the history of celibacy in the Church and the priesthood is more complicated and rich that 1 pope changing it "out of the blue." As Daniel pointed out, Paul references celibacy. St. John was a celibate. It's a thing from the beginning. It is though not a necessity from the beginning. But Daniel, it is also true that it is a possibility and that the sacraments are valid when said by any ordained man, whether he be married or not. I think it would look more like what's in the Eastern Churches. Pastors and Bishops chosen from the celibate, because they more specifically image Christ as the bridegroom, and others filling in the gaps.

@@danielfortier2629 maybe you should start by researching what you were taught was not the case for the 1st 1000 years of the Holy Church. Like the fact married men could be priest and were priest.
Now You being an authentic Catholic wouldn't take communion from a Married Priest who not a virgin well you would have to reject receiving Holy Communion from St Peter because St Peter was married with a wife and he had sex and some of the other apostles were believed to be married as well.
Question: "Were any of the disciples married?"
Answer: We know for certain that Peter was married because he had a mother-in-law (Matthew 8:14). The apostle Paul, who was not married, asked the Corinthians whether he also did not have the right to take a believing wife (1 Corinthians 9:5), as did “the other apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas [Peter].” From this, we can assume that Peter was not the only one to have a wife.
There's nothing wrong with marriage God created it he highly spoke of it that's how we got Eve. I can also sling up Bible verses saying how great marriages is and that it mans choice. Also all Eastern Rite Catholic like Byzantine like Maronite like Orthodox Catholics married men can still become priests and have kids and wife and a dog and they still take care of their parishes quite well for 2000 years..... They been able to have marry men as priests since the beginning of the church history...
100% for married men to become priests we'll get a lot more heterosexuals priest that way .👪 💒 PS the whole church watched our married priest baptize his daughter using the ancient Rite a baptism it was beautiful it felt pretty authentic with God being there.

    • @_kidtripp7772
      @_kidtripp7772 6 месяцев назад

It's important to note, (I go to a Byzantine Catholic parish and the TLM), that a married man can become a priest. In the East, once you are a priest, you CANNOT get married. You have to be a married man and THEN you can become a priest. However, if you are a married priest, you cannot be raised to the episcopacy/bishopric. The Western tradition of celibacy should stay because it is a beautiful tradition. If it is that big of an issue, then I believe (I hold this view) that the Eastern Catholic Churches should expand. It would, 1. Allow for married men to become priests, 2. Demonstrate that the Catholic Church isn't merely the Roman Church, and 3. It could improve Roman Catholics spiritual life (they may find a greater connection to God in the Eastern rites).

However, even though the church let them stay married, because he is married, he can never become a bishop.

priests that can balance a family and church duties are the rare exception and not the norm. One of the key reasons against married priests is that many of them will always put their family before the church much like how some of those megachurch pastors end up using a lot of their "churches" money to buy their wife a new bugatti ect. It's human nature but that is how it is.

So Christ was also perfect. It wouldn't have been right for him to have taken a wife of those who are meant to worship him. As a man I would have a hard time listening to another man on what a husband should be when he has no clue what it's like to be a husband. I'm not saying that I'm perfect in that, I mean I was divorced by the age of 23. But that being said I have always gotten the best advice about marriage from those who have been married and have seen hardships, yet worked through them. If a priest has never known this then all they can tell you is the little they do know, and what the bible says. Which the bible does have some great answers, however I have had a priest quote scripture to me that made no sense to me and he couldn't explain it any further because he couldn't relate to what I was going through. He told me that divorce wasn't a solution, which I already knew but it wasn't up to me. I lived in a no fault divorce state so no matter how hard I fought it, my ex was going to get it as long as she wanted it. So i didn't know what to do. Then I left the church even more confused. Granted I'm also not Catholic but I don't see how it could have made much of a difference considering the verse he quoted was in the protestant bible as well and I already knew the verse.

The Catholic Church is involved in many false teachings. Priestly celibacy is one of those teachings. The Church knows that requiring single priests to remain unmarried is unscriptural. Consider the following Catholic references:
    1. “We do not find in the New Testament any indication of celibacy being made compulsory either upon the Apostles or those whom they ordained.”-The Catholic Encyclopedia
    2. “The oldest evidence of a law on priestly celibacy is Canon 33 of the Council of Elvira [Spain], circa 300 C.E.”-Dictionnaire de Théologie Catholique
    3. “Celibacy of the clergy is nowhere demanded or even supposed in the NT [New Testament].” --Encyclopedic Dictionary of the Bible
    4. In the preamble to this 1967 encyclical, Pope Paul VI admitted that “the New Testament, which preserves the teaching of Christ and the Apostles . . . does not demand celibacy of sacred ministers.”
    5. “Ecclesiastical celibacy is not a dogma. The Scriptures do not impose it."--Pope John XXIII
Many Catholics believe Jesus encouraged priestly celibacy. But did he? Absolutely not. Jesus was born under the Law of Moses which REQUIRED priests to be MARRIED MEN! As Lev. 21: 1, 7, 13, 14 says: "Yahweh said to Moses: 'Speak to the priests descended from Aaron and say: "They will not marry a woman profaned by prostitution, or one divorced by her husband, for the priest is consecrated to his God. He will marry a woman who is still a virgin. He will not marry a woman who has been widowed or divorced or profaned by prostitution, but will marry a virgin from his own people."
So, if Jesus had told unmarried priests to remain celibate, he would have been encouraging them to break the Law.
