Every kicker starts their journey somewhere, and when they face off against the very best, the pressure can become overwhelming. This intense pressure is a common theme across all sports, underscoring the importance of mental health specialists in these fields. However, the fantastic news is that he's now performing exceptionally well in his kicking game, thanks in no small part to the incredible work of his kicking coach. It's truly amazing how technology, especially through video calling, has played a pivotal role in this transformation

When you are selected for the Boks, everyone assumes you can already do the basics right. Bok training is not high school rugby training. Imagine Rassie needed to train Etzebeth to jump, or Kolbe to sidestep. When players are selected outside their comforts zone, it usually is political. And only experienced rugby players can see it. Emotional sheeple can not.

Union has always been much more popular than league and is also a much faster growing sport. Only because our forwards are superior to theirs, will they now come with these excuses. The All Blacks are taken aback by that loss and now want to influence the refereeing panel to officiate in a style that will neutralize their weakness. They know the Boks will chew them up again. I cant believe Mannie needed his coach to change his angle. Back in my school days as kicker I had to work out the approach angles myself. It was hours and hours of kicking until both the left and right sides of the pitch were sorted. The difficulty is the 20m - 30m kick in front of the poles because an extreme approach angle will tell you the ball is going to hook. The true secret is direction of follow through.

Please look at how much his head goes down at the kick at 2:20, even though the kick goes over, that is his biggest problem. The head needs to stay still. Its not about keeping your head down! Its about keeping your head still like a kingfisher. Even though the kingfisher's body is moving around, the head stays in the same place. Why? Now that the Boks lost against Ireland in the first game at the World Cup, it needs to be stated categorically - Manie is a weak link in the team for his kicking at posts. You cannot go into a world cup with a weak kicker. It is poor judgement on the coaching and team decision-making staff. Two relatively easy kicks at goal which went astray. Very very poor. However good Manie might be at the rest of his game, a very good kicker is the most essential thing required. Swys's categorical analysis and self-importance is short sighted and smacks of hubris. And furthermore, Faf is not good enough as a kicker either.

Swys - you keep Libbok - as a support I have no faith in Libbok! He has ruined too many test matches for the Springboks. As a supporter I never want to see Libbok in a Springbok jersey ever again.

It sounds like everyone is making excuses for him. His a inconsistent kicker and that wil cost us if we back him.

Being concerned about not having a reliable kicker in a World Cup is not the same as not backing the player. It’s being sober. The kicks shown were too close for comfort. His unorthodox action is not much comfort either. Bad actions lead to bad outcomes, including missed kicks, inconsistency in kicking form and injuries. The explanation offered in the video is as much an explanation of why Libbok cant find consistency as it is as to why he kicked well against the ABs. Their are few athletes who can make this sort of unorthodox action work. Let’s hope Libbok is one of them.
And personally, I think the explanation is BS. If Libbok needed his stormers coach to call him and remind which angle he’s supposed to run at to kick the ball? The mans a pro athlete. If he doesn’t know what angle to run at, I don’t know what to say.
