      What? This is just an upscale Prius. Totally makes sense to compare them to decide if this is worth the extra money.

    Had the car for a year from new now. It is comfortable and does not cause any problems The interior is a really nice place to be in and creates a very calm aura about the way you drive it. True, that the touchpad also takes some getting used to, but overall interacting with the car is really intuitive and relaxing. It's definitely not a performance machine, but it's not a old prius slow either. The steering feels really good compared to some ohter rivals, eaven maybe too precise for the nature of this car, but thats the thing bout it - it feels like it was made with care. Honestly I would go with a bit smaller than OEM size wheels for the sake of comfort side. You see, UX has a bit of an identity crisis, trying to be sporty'ish while it's not really necessary - but thats a problem with many modern cars in my opinion. All the comfort and safety creatures work really well. All in all a really nice vehicle to get around town, gentle to people on bikes in traffic and more versatile than a fully electric equivalent.The name really fits the car - the user experience is really good. We are happy with it.

    "There are plenty of options that cost 10,000 less." But these options will not last you 300,000 - 500,000 kilometers with minimal maintenance.
    Those options start to fall apart after 25,000 kilometers. For example, American, French, Italian or German cars. So in the the end you will probably end up paying more than 10,000 dollars if you decide to keep the car for few years. Save your time and the headache and get a reliable Toyota/Lexus. The only cars left that are actually worth it.

    Going to testdrive the UX250h tomorrow I've seen a few in my apartment complex neighborhood and it has my attention. It's a great small city vehicle and with the roof-rack it looks awesome for extra cargo for roadtrips. The Rav4 hybrid is nice for that same price but gosh is it FAT, not to mention that horrible Hitler stache. Kudos to anyone who buys that for their family, us successful Xennials will stick to a subcompact that won't struggle finding parking, will be comfortable to drive, and will give me 400+ miles to a full tank for less than $40-50 👍.

  • @Trades46
    @Trades46 5 лет назад +4

    It's a nice high riding urban runabout - decent space, AWD capability & small enough to parallel park . The Toyota derived e-CVT (I don't like that term because it isn't a CVT but people here won't get it otherwise) means it won't be a driver's choice, but if you live in a condo where electric car charging isn't an option, the UX250h is a decent choice.
    I kind of wished Lexus offered a turbo motor in this thing, but I felt Lexus deliberately left this out to move buyers up to NX300.

      I drove the rav4 hybrid and its a beast that is like my cherokee, not a big fan, this UX250h drove much nicer..... BUT, I still have no idea what I want. The model 3 or Y still calls my name... Time will tell for me... the rav4 hybrid does have a lot of features like this UX...... Why cant Lexus have rear heated seats?

    • @chamade166

    • @willnye9788
      @willnye9788 5 лет назад

      Not many people want that segment despite price. The Rav4 is a Compact SUV bulky for the city. The Subcompact is for city dwellers with no family, not to mention the UX250h gets the same fuel economy as a Rav4 hybrid and it takes less to fill up the tank.

  • @mynameis63

    Thanks Zack. You made some great points: Fast cars aren't the problem...it's people making poor choices that will ultimately hurt our hobby. Long- term cost comparisons, instead of initial feels, are the more sensible approach when choosing traditional vs hybrid vehicles. As far as water boots vs rain boots...meh...water panties instead of swim suits.....some say potatoe..I say spud. :)

  • @skagerstrom

    SUV's need those plastic parts to not look as massive. Have you seen an X5 with those things painted? It's horrible. The plack plastic makes the car look thinner and less heavy between the arch and the hood/rear window line.
    The smaller ones though... It would be enough with a little black line like the newer BMW's have it. This is to much. Also looks like a Jeep, and that's a bad thing here.

    11:45 I'm coming from a Mazda 3 6MT as a daily (I ride sportbikes, will eventually have dedicated sports cars). I want a car with amazing gas mileage, good interior cargo space, a low roof to chuck a cargo box on, and a *QUIET CABIN*. This is what I might buy to become my road trip car in ~2 years when this used market cools down.

    2019 Rav4 Hybrid, Lexus UX250h, or Tesla model 3. These are the 3 I am thinking about. The Rav4 I felt was too much like my Cherokee and a rough ride. The UX was smooth as silk, but a CVT and no real HP! The Model 3 was great, but it has many issues too..... Thoughts on what else I should look at anyone? Why can't Lexus put in rear heated seats, they are handy in winter....

    • @FN-1969
      @FN-1969 5 лет назад +2

      I’m actually considering the UX hybrid and the Rav4 as well. Way I’m looking at it is. Do I want more cargo or more luxury. I’m looking for a commuter vehicle for home to work daily driving. Includes some freeways for a trip of 30 minutes each way. I’m leaning towards the UX for the fact, as you mentioned the ride is nice and pretty quiet. I’m on a budget and will only spend so much per month. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a deal with the Lexus this month.

    • @msbgone
      @msbgone 5 лет назад +2

      @@FN-1969 cool man and your name is great... lol, if you think about it let me know how it goes. I have not bought anything yet. I actually just test drove a Rogue, Bolt, and Volt. The Volt was good. The UX still is on my radar, but being a new model this year I will wait and I really like the way electric cars drive.... take care!

    • @FN-1969
      @FN-1969 5 лет назад +1

      Marc Spunt Thanks, lol. Nice name as well. I’ll plan on making an update here if and when I make my decision. I’m kinda shying away from Nissan, just was never a fan. But have actually considered Honda’s hybrid sedans. Test drove a Clarity today. Actually really nice and big interior. About the same prices as the UX hybrid base model but it’s a plug in hybrid. Gets between 40s to 110 mpg. But really prefer the SUV height. Though as mentioned in this video the UX does sit a little lower than traditional SUVs. And yes. Being a new model for the UX I agree being cautious. But Lexus / Toyota reliability seems very consistent.

    • @msbgone
      @msbgone 5 лет назад +1

      Marc Finn LPTA cool. You can try a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, a 2019. It is a plug in as well but electric range is low and features are so so. I am going to wait a year and see what happens. Good luck!

    I didn't mind this review at all, i really like the interior minus the stupid trackpad (it isn't a laptop). Your comparisons were great too, i often forget that mpg isn't everything in a dd when you factor in repair bills, space, looks, extra cost etc. It would be really cool to see their hybrid system implemented in a light hatch with a bit more pep, something that would compete with a fiesta st or something sporty and small like that.

    I understand the UX250h. No other Toyota vehicle uses the New 2.0L Dynamic Force High Compression Engine (Toyota's version of Sky-Active with 14:1 Compression in Hybrid/Atkinson Cycle Form) as a Hybrid:
    Prius and Corolla Hybrids use the 1.8L version, and All others Hybrids (Camry, Venza, Avalon, RAV4, Highlander, and Sienna) use the 2.5L version of that engine.
    I don't understand the UX200, which has the same engine and drive train (K120 CVT with Launch Gear) of a Corolla SE trim line.
    The UX200 should have NEVER been. The 2.0L Dynamic Force engine and K120 Launch Gear CVT from the Corolla SE trim line should've been put into the Corolla-HighRider AKA C-HR.
    Toyota bean counters put an old Valvematic 2.0L in the C-HR instead. Fortunately, the K120 Launch Gear CVT is in the C-HR.

      Strangely the UX250h is a parts bin special in exactly the right way for an enthusiast's "boring car". I drive 40,000 miles a year, 50/50 work and recreational road trips. I need a quiet cabin and stellar fuel economy. I need a naturally aspirated engine which doesn't pull timing when I run 87 octane. I want an amazing sound system. If I want to have fun, I'll get the stick roadster out of the garage or hop on my sportbike.

    I too hated plastic cladding. But it serves a purpose on my Outback. Dragging the bumper on a washed out gravel road? No scratched paint. Ice and slush buildup in the winter? Give that black plastic a tap with your foot, no worries about paint damage. Yeah, it's stupid in SoCal, but it can be functional.

    CVT's have one single purpose: To allow the engine to allways operate in it's most efficient rev range for optimum efficiency or power. Williams F1 tested a CVT in the 90's which was quote several seconds faster than their conventional F1 car. But when you implement fake gear ratios in it, all of that advantage disappear. It's LITERALLY useless!

    • @jomaha9227

      If you've ever driven one that just hangs at a certain RPM as it accelerates you may have found it to be obnoxious to just have a constant engine noise/hum/drone. A large portion of customers complained, so they stopped doing that.

    • @torod213
      @torod213 5 лет назад

      @@jomaha9227 Obviously I have driven a CVT. Yes it sounds weird, but people don't seem to complain about that with scooters, snowmobiles and ATV's and a lot of those use CVT's. It's just a matter of what you're used to. If all cars had used CVT's for decades, people would complain that gear ratios sound weird. Besides, like I said, if you're going to add fake gear ratios in a CVT because customers don't like how CVT's work, then DITCH THE FUCKING CVT. Like I said, at that point CVT's make zero sense.

      Carlos Guevara ... but a night-and-day difference once you drive them. The UX is more sturdier ride and is much quieter in the cabin.

    Lexus really needs to do something with their terrible infotainment interface. They lag so far behind BMW in this regard, along with handling, braking, and overall driving feel.

    Goodness GRACIOUS, I was watching this with a group of people, and they all tapped out very quickly, then me left standing, I had to stop watching after a few minutes I just couldn’t take it anymore. I’m never one to badmouth anybody, especially behind a computer screen, but constructively I do need to say this guy is VERY annoying and definitely needs a LOT of pointers want to comes to reviewing and talking. I have huge respect for Matt Farah and the smoking tire so it pains me to say this at risk of negative responses back from anyone who runs TST, or other viewers. However, I really wanted to know more about this car, rather than just pointless rambling and awkwardness. I’m sure one day Zach will get it and that’s great, but I’m sorry that I have to say this was very painful in many ways.

    I don't usually hate on cars because the car community doesn't benefit a thing from people arguing on the internet which engine or make is better, that being said whoever designed the back of this thing should be asked to leave his occupied profession.
    Utterly hideous.

    I would take Lexus mpg estimates with a grain of salt. They're always really conservative. My wife's ct200h is supposed to get 40mpg on hwy, 43 on city and 42 combined. My wife get from 48-50 combined all of the time and if I drive it slowly I've averaged from 52 to 55mpg. So, I'm pretty sure this one could do as well or even better. Hell my IS350 is supposed to get 27mpg on highway and on highway if I drive normal at 65mph I can average from 32-34mpg

      @Oshe Shango yeah the difference is that I stated a worst case scenario (my wife driving ) and she gets more that what the manufacturer states...

      I own the UX200 (not the HYBRID). Lexus rates it at 29/37 mpg. My Average mpg after each reset has not been less than 34 with 70/30 HWY/City. Great gas mileage on this little car. Probably hybrid is better esp if you drive more City than Hwy due to regenerative braking!
