This has been one of my favorite monthly videos! Thanks all!
30:59 To be honest, it's the first time that i see AND hear Mark playing something from Tony Banks ! It made me smile ! Nice interview !
This video makes you want to listen even more, Thank you Marc Kelly for this magnificent demonstration.
His hands float on the keyboards.
Marillion is really impressive, all its members are incredible.
Wow. This has really opened my eyes. How much can one man remember. Gobsmacked. The man is a genius 😮👍🎹
Oh, to be able to play like that.
Superb.
Thank you so much for the music.
Great, such an interesting episode. Thanks, Mark, and all. So much looking forward to what your next jam sessions will create.
Fascinating and insightful, thanks Mark for giving away the secrets
Fantastic. I think that’s got to be my favourite MM so far. Fascinating and I learned so much. What a geezer Mark is!
Mark playing even a tiny bit of “Watcher of the Skies" made me so happy! Gosh, how much I love both Genesis and Marillion ❤
Two fantastic bands..for me, Genesis are the best band ever 🎉🎉
And he is a great 'Yes' fan. 😊
@@alexanderbleeser9784 love Yes ❤️
More of this please! Marillion Monthly is always my most anticipated video to watch each month. It never disappoints and this month's talking keys with Mark was the best of the bunch. Thank you Mark for being so generous with your time!
Beatiful video! Amazing!!! I am a sound designer and composer and this video should be given to those who study electronic music. Not just for the technique but for how Mark Kelly's system is perfect for live creativity. Congratulations, it would be a pleasure to meet you I add my violin :). Grazie Mark. Ciao
Mark Kelly is a very underrated Muscian,Indeed! His musical ideas are Just Fantastic. His Parts are the magical. Without being too Over the Top,or Complicated. He Weaves his ideas in Complete Harmony, with the Rest of the Guy's in the Band. He knows when to Play soft! And When to Play Hard and Loud in all the Right Places. Fitting his playing in with the Rest of the Band. This Allows Marrillions Music to Flow Dramatically and in Harmony, Effectively and Fluorescentèly and in Harmony with the Rest of the Band,Complimenting The Band Seamlessly.
His ideas are Great Too! Contributing Perfectly to The Bands Overall Sound and Magic.
Together, Collectively making Marillion's Music Reach and Soar into the Stratosphere! A Unique Band, Whom have given the Whole World an Importantly Musical Catalogue of Glorious Music, for well over the Decades since they first formed in 1979. Emerging from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire from the post Punk music scene in Britain to exist as a bridge between rock and Progressive genre to Become their Own Unique Entirety, Now. Thank you Guys, And All! For Your Dedication to Bringing forth, So much Joy and Happiness to All those Hearts and Minds! That you have touched together throughout the World! Please Continue for as Long as is Possible ❤ God Bless MARILLION!!🎉💥🙏✨️👏👏
This is extremely inspiring !!!! 👍🎹🎹🎹
The solo on She Chameleon still kills me now 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
me too 🙂
it was so enriching and interesting to listen to Mark K. to know how and why in his creation he develops as an artist and his way of expressing by showing his toys who loves to compose on them...
BRILLIANT
MFFM
MARILLION FOREVER FOREVER MARILLION
Thank you both for this magnificant monthly.
The smile I felt coming on with Mark playing the solo from This Strange Engine will not leave my face today, no matter what meetings are coming up!
This is one of the absolute best interviews I've ever seen. Huge thanks!
Fabulous episode - enthralling and informative for all us nerds ! Thank you Mark
That was absolutely fascinating.....thanks Mark and Lucy
Marillion: quite probably the NICEST band in the world. Good people!
I’m 6 minutes in and my mind is sufficiently blown already! what a clever and talented man you are, Mr K. ❤
Brilliant musician and sound wizard, great inspiration. Thanks Mark!
Love this, it's a great insight into Mark's creative process. The sounds Mark creates really are so incredibly special. Thank you so much! Super interesting and I'm not a keyboard player at all (only guitar... Badly)
Really great and very interesting video. I really enjoyed watching it and finding out about who Mark’s influences were.
As a keys player this was absolute heaven! I'm still using hardware synths but many of the principles of splits, set lists, sound orders etc are the same! Very reassuring to see a pro like Mark grappling with the same issues. Great insights into the sampling etc, obviously a band like Marillion with such a layered sound were always going to utilise this - it's not 'cheating', it's simply using technology to create the fullest recreation possible.
This was mind blowing! So much I didn't realise; thank you for explaining Mark (and Lucy). It made me think about the sounds I love from the band and how much of this is Mark. Really great video.
Great insight, thank you Mark & Lucy. By the way the solo at 10:30, I can watch & listen to you doing this stuff all day Mark!💕
MM just getting better and better. Loved this one. Very dear to me. Excellent job Mark.
Fantastic, thank you very much
Thank you very much for revealing the secret, my brother and I nearly went crazy trying to figure out what the choir is singing at the beginning of Be Hard On Yourself 😂
Brilliant! And I love Lucy's 'well done!' 😂
I really enjoyed that. Mark is a tremendously gifted musician/songwriter and a wonderfully engaging fellow. Great stuff!
Cheers Mark, really interesting video, really good to see how the set up has evolved, and how it all works together, Thanks
Well done, that was your best monthly video to date ..... after the 'Meet The Better Halves' one of course 😉
For me it's a very nice insight, there are so many possibilities and I have to say that technology is a huge help so that you don't lose track.
Thanks so much for this wonderful insight into Mark's wizardry! 🔥🎹🎹🎹🔥
So much to love about this video
Falling from the Moon. Such a moving piece.
So that's how its done. Absolutely fascinating. Really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing that with us.
He's so musical, so clever and so lovely 😀
THANK YOU so much for this series! I love that you decided to not just make a 5 minute quick video, but a very comprehensive deep dive! Can’t wait for the rest!
Loved this. I always knew it was a complex operation to fire off all those sounds. Great little piece of insight.
Mark is a true master at his craft!
How lucky are we have to have Mark in the band ...
Yep mind blown.. Great vid.. respect to Mr Kelly 😎😄
That's fascinating. The best MM, yet.
I loved the section where Mark explained his set up to Lucy 😎 I use hardware synths but have the same routine with my band as far as planning ahead with sounds and splits.
Thank you very much Mark! It was Amazing! Thanks Lucy!
As a pianist and keyboard player myself this was really a genuinely fascinating insight - thank you!
Really useful info for keyboard players everywhere
this dude inspired me to be a keys player over 30 yrs ago, thanks Mr Kelly :)
Best MM yet! Thank you!
This was fantastic! Thanks Mark & Lucy! 😎
This is fantastic.
He never learnt music theory but he is still one of the best keyboard players in the world.
Really enjoyed that - thanks Mark and Lucy! I'm a keyboard player by the way - but not as good as Mark 😂
I missed you wonderful people
Mark's contributions to the band have been vital, starting with the Marillion website and not least Mark's big chords....which became Neverland
Are they the chords in the last section? If so he came up with my favourite Marillion moment!
Fascinating. Really enjoyed that!
Amazing and informative
Really interesting that was loved it👍
Excellent questions, Lucy!
I love that H does not like to play to clicks. Mark, as a keyboardist myself. I know you have so much prep! Thanks for all you do!!! #MarillionForever
This is extremely interesting I think..wow
Excellent, really enjoyed this.
Mark foi e continua sendo uma das minhas influências como músico. Thank you. Cheers from Brazil!
Thanks for starting my career mark stand straight
Great interview! I was wondering if Mark has a memory of what he thinks was the most satisfying chord change they came across while jamming. Where everyone went "oooo..that's brilliant!"
#Marillion 🎹
Hope we get some superb glacial keyboard bits on new album,, Very mystical and icy stuff
That was fascinating. Obrigado Mr. Kelly 😊
It’s been so long now that Mark may not really think about it, but when H first came into the band, was it difficult finding a way to accommodate two pianists in the same sonic space, or were an extra pair of hands on the keyboards an advantage from the start?
Fantastic episode, btw Lucy!
Truly inspirational! Thanks so much Mark for unveiling a few secrets and answering questions (mine at 34:10 😊)!
❤
Brilliant,
Thanks Mark and Lucy. Hopefully in the future Mark , you might treat us to another video.
I've been learning the piano for 5 years. How about a song tutorial or an iconic part of any song.
Just want to say I love the solo that you did on the Emerald Lies demo .The part that never made the album version
Well done on this latest offering
Any tips or advice for a learner ??
Thank you very much for the Insides into your world as a Keyboard Player 🙏
It reassures me to here, that you struggled here and there with starting in the correct octave when playing Split Parts, which of cause has never happened to me 😅
Obrigado, Muito!
Hes a Genius
Very interesting ! One question for Mark: Now with playing all those virtual instruments - how do you feel about the old stuff you played in the 80s like the PPG, Jupiter, Emulator, Pro One and so on - did you keep those items and if so, do you still play them from time to time?
Great!!! I have been waiting for this so much. A question remains: How are the clicks and backing vocals handled? All using multiple instances of the Mainstage playback engine? Cheers.
Awesome episode, thank you so much! Do you also program h's keyboard and P250 piano sounds using your main stage setup?
Little known fact but Mark (Marillion Automated Rock Keyboard -v10) is an android, programmed by the band and left on a battery charger every evening at Racket Studios. The original Mark Kelly was dissolved in acid in 1991 and replaced with an upgradable version. Ever noticed how 'he' doesn't age?
Mark is great but the takeaway is "If it's difficult, get Pete to do it!" :)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐❤
Simples assim ❗
🎶❤🇧🇷🕊️🎶
Agree with the comment that synth sounds should stay, bugs me when they're not the same, also bugs me when tribute acts get them wrong. particularly when they weren't sounds that were hard to recreate (Fish' band for example! :) ). Mainstage is a game changer, it makes a synth set so much more easy to navigate.
genius
Wonderful..but I'm stressed out just trying to understand the tec..my god no wonder he has lost his hair poor boy hahaha 🤣😉👍☕️
The Record company will now want their money back for you billing them for A Full Choir LOL😂😂
@Mark: Do you keep any of your old keyboards / synthesizers? If yes which one do you still own (like f.e. the Juniper 8, Minimoog, PPG, D-50, etc.)?
Question for Mark: does the output of the mac directly goes to the mixer or dou you use an audio interface?
Do the same for Ian Mosley
Can mark tell us the spec of his pc/laptops please for us nerds?
Would love to buy his book, but its not on any digital format and to buy it in Canada would cost a small fortune.
Can someone explain who Mike is please? Producer?
You guys are so human. Except maybe H sometimes. 👍👋🇦🇺
WOT! No Korg KARMA?
Yes yes we know all that you show off..I just want to know where you keep your red bull.....😂...😉
