- The Classical Hollywood Style has, since the 1930s, been the default stylistic approach of most of the world's narrative film and television. Described as invisible, it is a system of conventions intended not to draw attention to itself so as to create the illusion of spatial and temporal continuity and maximise audience immersion in the narrative. In this video, Duncan analyses the opening scene of The Maltese Falcon to demonstrate how the Classical Hollywood Style works.

i love this analysis! since i found this vid i've been showing it to all my storyboard and animation students, not only to help their understanding and appreciation of sequence construction, but also of influential older films that are and still engaging and involving.
