Matt, Was so awesome to here your voice in the New Forza Motorsport Apex. It just sounded so natural to listen to describe the different racing series in the game. Very Cool
+Jonas Rosenven I really want to try to those glasses. I feel like my colorblindness has almost no real negative effect on my life, but it'd be interesting to see the difference.
We get this question a lot and the answer is usually, "How would we know?". We've never seen how you see so we don't know what's different. I suppose it's mostly just not picking up on certain hues that normal people do. I feel like I can see most colors probably just as normal people do, but some things I'll look at and not have a clue. It could be silver, pink, light blue, even green. Except for extreme cases (I'm not even sure those exist), we do not see in black and white. Just probably not everything that you can.
Hey Matt, I own a base 2016 XF Premium + Nav, which starts at $52K. Premium is about as base as you can go and still includes premium audio, nav (a $500 SD card), bi-xenons, leather, smartphone apps (to start and warm the car, track the car via Google Maps, lock/unlock, etc.) and some other stuff. Living in Florida I have no need for heated seats and steering. But, crucially, the car with 340HP and that ZF transmission is a massive bargain for the base cost. And for an additional $895 Velocity AP will actually tune the car to 400HP through certain Jag dealerships (warrantied) or via a provided OBDII plug-in. Most of that power is simply unlocking the 3.0's 380HP reserved for the S-model, with an additional massaging to get an extra 20HP and some extra torque. Pair that with stickier rubber, and holy crap does it transform the car immediately. I've had the chance to sample one, and I'm currently in the process of getting the tune done to my own. The Velocity guys are also trying to convince me to spend $1300 on my 2012 XKR (tune + pulley), which brings it up to 620HP. The car is already squirrelly with 510HP, so I'm not sure it's the best idea. Hahaha. Have you ever sampled any tuned XKRs or even F-Type Rs?
Matt your reviews are both professional, and with a twist of what "regular " people would say without getting paid for the review; very much appreciated. This Jaguar is nice but over priced
As a previous gen XF owner, the new one has been quite disappointing on the interior for the given price. The driving dynamics are definitely better than a similar 5 series, but interior material quality, technology is a let down. I mean look at the new E class and A6 interiors, they are leaps and bounds ahead of the Jag.
+A Jovial RUclips commenter Have the B&W in my car, it's actually not super great. It's good with a big punch of 1200 Watts, but not as amazing as you would expect from B&W. The newer Meridian systems have lower 'THD', so the sound quality is better. The B&W was a $2300 option, the $900 Bang&Olufsen in my girlfriends A5 actually has a more accurate sound reproduction.
+cookybiscuit Actually, this isn't the base model, the XF 20d is, which I think has 180hp and starts around $48,000. The 340hp 35t will go for just under $51,000.
Double wishbone upfront, not struts like most cars. Makes a big deference. And the compromise between sporty chassis & comfort is real a Jag specialty. I drive an XJ, same there ... very nimble for a huuuuge car.
+valcked Have an '03 S- type R, and it handles amazingly well, the suspension system is both firm yet has a damn good ride. In turns it made My E 39 BMW feel like a pig.
Hi Matt, good review. I love America becuase you guys have it all with different roads and climate. Stunning. Anyway, back to the Jag. In Europe, the one to go for is the V6 sequential turbo diesal becuase it hammers out an efficient 300bhp and chest compression 520 ft lbs of torque. Its a beast. I think you are being a little bit picky with the interior plastics, I mean I could moan about that in a Mercdes E Class interor but then again the E Class drives nowhere near as well.
Wouldn't Matt Farah compare the R-Sport package with Lexus's F-Sport instead of Cadillac's V-Sport? It just makes more sense to me as it's a suspension package, not a tune.
To the comment he made about the stop/start feature never turning off, when you drove the car in sport using manual shift, the stop/start is automatically turned off
Its nice, don't get me wrong....but I had to stop before the drive started just to say: $72k!? That's a little fucking crazy if you ask me. Compared to some of the recent cars, reviewed in this price range, there's no way I'd drop $70k+ on this.....I don't know what type of depreciation these jag's have, so maybe a low mileage, well maintained, preowned version, would make more sense......... *back to the regularly scheduled program.
Matt does the auto stop/start add extra wear to your starter motor? I always thought of them coming with a certain kinds number of cranks to last the usual couple years. If I started my car at every stop light I would think it would kill it quickly.
+Jonny T. all these posts are done months in advance and pre-scheduled. It would be way annoying to individually post every day. that would be ridiculous.
IIRC, BMW North America gave Matt a X5M for One Lap of America back in '12 or '13 that he took to a BMW tuner who made it run low 12s before he had to give it back and it was auctioned off by a dealer.
73k! Wow. I guess if you want a lux sedan and tired of all the 5 series and A6's and E classes this is a nice option. You can get an M5 for that kind of money though or an S6 though.
+Vincent Corralez Why? They don't make them anymore unless you mean a modified one. The F-Type is the XKR's current replacement although there was rumors of it returning but I don't see any room in Jaguar's lineup for it.
Matt have you heard of Enchroma glasses? They're glasses that allow colourblind people to see the full range of colours! If you didn't know they existed I thought you should know, they tend to leave colourblind people speechless
i really love the new Jags. they may still have a few flaws and i would definitely get an extended warranty but it's more charismatic than the german cars IMO.
+EminentLine This was a very long day. I shot 7 cars that day, and obviously did this one last because it was my press car. I had been out in the malibu sun for like 5 hours.
Matt, which new sedan would you buy nowadays? I kinda miss the old days. Every manufacturer seems to be copying each other. The Vulva(I mean the Volvo) that you reviewed recently seems more engaging than this.
Haha USA having the 340hp v6 as a base car, keep hearing similar on the podcast. Here in Britain where a normal car isn't really a normal car without the base 4 cylinder diesel
+Thomas Murphy Matt is mistaken. The base model is the 20d, which is a 180hp 4 cylinder diesel. But really, the price difference isn't that great between the two, ~$3k more for the 35t with 340hp.
+archinuk417 Money is in the suspension. That thing handles better than a BMW 3 series (not the M), which is saying something. Drive one and you'll see. Take it on some twisties
+archinuk417 Sure, but the Jaguar's engine is smaller and it makes 62 more lb-ft of torque at a lower RPM. Imaginably it's a pretty conservative tune in the Jaguar for both driveability and reliability.
+f2b.....f20bEG I can still tell the difference between contrast colors, it's a problem when colors are similar (yellow & green, brown & red, blue & purple, ect ect). I can still see differences in shades ;)
+f2b.....f20bEG That's not how color blindness works. I can see every color in the spectrum, and I can tell when a light changes from red to green. Imagine watching a football game, from the normal TV angle, above and at midfield. One team is wearing green jerseys, the other team is wearing red or brown jerseys. All the players will appear to be wearing the same color jersey to me. Or, put another way, if you're in the woods and wearing camouflage, I cannot see you. Camo works on people like me.
+Death2Rum I think the beeps and boops are really good if you want to text and drive, or drive half asleep, or drive drunk. An attentive driver with an appropriate level of skill shouldn't need any of that shit.
Grace, pace, and space man. Looks like this is a proper Jag!
Matt, Was so awesome to here your voice in the New Forza Motorsport Apex. It just sounded so natural to listen to describe the different racing series in the game. Very Cool
I agree. I was playing it and was like "Hey! I know that voice!" :)
+Tyler Cochran None of us accused it of being a simulator...
it's amazing how this road has so many dangerous sections without the side guard protection.
Hi Matt. I didn't know you were color blind. Have you tried the Enchroma glasses? I think they come in a sunglass version and a regular version.
like this so matt can read it!
Color blind with maps, infuriating. Red light at night makes Interstates disappear from your paper, that second you think you don't even exist.
+Jonas Rosenven I really want to try to those glasses. I feel like my colorblindness has almost no real negative effect on my life, but it'd be interesting to see the difference.
+dftns19 can you explain exactly how it looks you can't see colors period like a black an white affect? sorry if you're offended just curious
We get this question a lot and the answer is usually, "How would we know?". We've never seen how you see so we don't know what's different.

What a great looking car
I've heard the F-Pace SUV is also a very good car in terms of performance and chassis. Great to see JLR doing well.
Good review, too, Matt. (y)
3:20 When that beautiful twisty road in the back is actually your drive way. Wow!
What is you talking about 🤷♂️😭
Front end grip & turn in looks very impressive
Hey Matt, I own a base 2016 XF Premium + Nav, which starts at $52K. I`ve never heard of these Velocity guys, but I like the sound of them! I wonder if they have a deal with UK dealerships..
one of the best reviews i ever saw thx man
Give that Jag a drift. Jags love drifts.
Where that cam was mounted, I felt the tinglies as he was whipping along the ridges. Good review.
Matt have you considered glasses that help colorblind people see some color? Like the EnChroma lenses
+damqn atanasov I was about to ask the same.
Color blindness doesn't affect my day to day life at all. I'd rather have my sponsored Dillon Optics!
+TheSmokingTire did you use to see color? Or born color blind
+tikiman48 no, never. I've never even heard of color blindness developing over time
+tikiman48 It's genetic
Matt your reviews are both professional, and with a twist of what "regular " people would say without getting paid for the review; very much appreciated. This Jaguar is nice but over priced
Your the first person to express the color blind issues , I am color blind as well and feel the same way .
+MrHPJunkie They also didn't bring back one of the best features of the car, the Bowers and Wilkins sound system.
+A Jovial RUclips commenter Have the B&W in my car, it's actually not super great. It's good with a big punch of 1200 Watts, but not as amazing as you would expect from B&W. A 340bhp supercharged V6 in a 'base model' car, too bad it's not like that in Europe. I Europe a base model saloon will be a 140bhp inline 4 diesel.
its all to do with gas prices.
+cookybiscuit 163HP to be exact. And a 6 speed manual!
+No Way And gas taxes, and taxes on engine displacement depending where you are.
+cookybiscuit Actually, this isn't the base model, the XF 20d is, which I think has 180hp and starts around $48,000. The 340hp 35t will go for just under $51,000.
+No Way
Compromise, if they did a V6 turbo it would get decent gas mileage.
Matt "The driver assistance pack, which is a whole bunch of beeps and boops that...that real driver's don't need!" Cracked me up!!! lol
Double wishbone upfront, not struts like most cars. Makes a big deference. And the compromise between sporty chassis & comfort is real a Jag specialty. I drive an XJ, same there ... very nimble for a huuuuge car.
One of the best handling cars, the Porsche Cayman, uses struts all around. You don't need double wishbones to have a great handling car.
+valcked Have an '03 S- type R, and it handles amazingly well, the suspension system is both firm yet has a damn good ride. In turns it made My E 39 BMW feel like a pig.
+valcked Jag made a jeep?
Never seen a car rotate so visibly on camera before
Awesome video guys! :D
You didn't say it, but that turning radius looks pretty good--at least for such a big car.
I've been binge watching your channel and I decided to subscribe thank you TST!
Off topic, but any chance on doing a 3rd gen Mazda3s hatch or are you waiting (hoping) for a Speed3?
Waiting for Speed3
What is this JagWire you talk about?
Matt, your Submariner is amazing.
I could see the heated steering wheel to be a very useful feature, especially during those cold 60F Cali winters
Hey Matt, you got a Ford Focus RS lined up to one take yet?
My personal RS will probably arrive before any press cars are available, so I'm just gonna do that
Sweet!
+TheSmokingTire Nice
+TheSmokingTire The premium /Drive stuff must be paying well with all the sweet new toys you've been getting! Can't wait to see the RS
+TheSmokingTire Matt have you watched Harry Metcalf's (Harry's Garage) video on his XJ-R
+TheSmokingTire where was this shot?
I love mine so much I took it from Qatar home to the UK, in LHD version!
that house at 5:20 is so incredibly dope
I swear that exact house & road there is in GTA5
What's with the front badge?
i love how he says 'real drivers'
Doesn't it have double wishbones all round? thats why its so good in the corners?
double wishbone up front, not sure about in back but I would assume that's why it handles well
You are right. It has integral link rear suspension
So this is similar in price to a V-Sport Premium......any thoughts on which you would go with?
Matt, maybe a strange comparison, but how's this stack up to the Chevrolet SS, taking luxury and status points out of the equation?
The SS drives better, but you can't just take luxury out of the equation when that's the point of this car.
Wouldn't Matt Farah compare the R-Sport package with Lexus's F-Sport instead of Cadillac's V-Sport? It just makes more sense to me as it's a suspension package, not a tune.
it'll be a $35k car in two years and worth every penny.
To the comment he made about the stop/start feature never turning off, when you drove the car in sport using manual shift, the stop/start is automatically turned off
The 340hp is the base in the USA? We get a 175hp diesel in the UK.
+Huw Robinson I'd rather have the diesel here in the USA. Real world torque while getting amazing mpg with the 8 speed.
Its nice, don't get me wrong....but I had to stop before the drive started just to say:
$72k!? That's a little fucking crazy if you ask me. Compared to some of the recent cars, reviewed in this price range, there's no way I'd drop $70k+ on this.....I don't know what type of depreciation these jag's have, so maybe a low mileage, well maintained, preowned version, would make more sense.........
*back to the regularly scheduled program.
One of these years you gotta come to the Bahamas.
hey matt, you should put a go pro in the foot area so we can see when you brake and accelerate :D
Matt does the auto stop/start add extra wear to your starter motor? I always thought of them coming with a certain kinds number of cranks to last the usual couple years. If I started my car at every stop light I would think it would kill it quickly.
I don't think so, that would be very poor design.
what's the difference between this and the S?
Matt is colorblind? wow, didnt know that.
Looks like in this car the V6 isn't nearly as loud and good-sounding as in the F-Type.
Excuse me if this has been asked but when's the RS coming?
Supposedly in June, maybe July. I don't have a build date yet
My neighbor has one of these. Very nice car
Finally, a car that actually thinks for the customers adult babies! Great video as always!
Can't wait for an XE review.
love this car
How do you post so early?! I stay up till 3-4am but I still always wake up to these.(which is actually pretty nice)
+Jonny T. all these posts are done months in advance and pre-scheduled. It would be way annoying to individually post every day. that would be ridiculous.
I'm colorblind, too! Welcome to the club, lol. At a traffic light does the green light look "white" to you?
when is the red stock na1 nsx video coming out?
June 9th
Oh you're colorblind? No wonder all of your videos are in black and white.
Matt, do you have a X3-X5-X6 M lined up anytime in the future?
IIRC, BMW North America gave Matt a X5M for One Lap of America back in '12 or '13 that he took to a BMW tuner who made it run low 12s before he had to give it back and it was auctioned off by a dealer.
+Alan C Do you know the link? I saw the X6M that he did at the track, I was just thinking a canyon run with one
+VORTEC RAW Idk if it ever made it to TST's RUclips channel or /Drive, but Matt had a writeup on the TST website a while back.
Negative, I haven't done much with the SUV': recently.
"Jags are Into drifting, they like that"
but would you take this car over a base model m3 or m4?
are people really cross shopping those cars?
Jet another great one take! How does it compare to the Audi A6 3.0 v6?
they put the guard rails in weird places up there, lots of tight corners without rails but there are rails on some straight bits of road... wtf
Hey Matt how do you think this compares to the current S4?
do these manufacturers request you to drive these cars or is it all private owner cars
This is a press car owner by jaguar
audio sync issues?
73k! Wow. I guess if you want a lux sedan and tired of all the 5 series and A6's and E classes this is a nice option. You can get an M5 for that kind of money though or an S6 though.
I mean, maybe a leftover S6 but certainly not a new M5
Jaguar XE S one day?
I'm driving XE in Colorado in June
:)
+TheSmokingTire I hope you find a XKR to review (:
+Vincent Corralez Why? They don't make them anymore unless you mean a modified one. The F-Type is the XKR's current replacement although there was rumors of it returning but I don't see any room in Jaguar's lineup for it.
+Vincent Corralez I've already reviewed an XKR
are you partial or full colorblind?
I have both red/green and green/brown color blindness
would have loved to hear how it compares to a 335i or maybee a 335d, other than that great video as always matt!
Much much bigger
+TheSmokingTire oops sorry meant 535 hehe
+ludde newbeast the XF is more of a 5 series competitor
Matt can you please review a 2012 xkrs or xkrs-gt
Matt be rocking a lovely "Hulk" ?
Matt how do think it stacks up against the current 5 series and e class ? Is it more driver focused ?
Better handling than the E class. I haven't driven a non-M 5-series in a long timr
Matt have you heard of Enchroma glasses? They're glasses that allow colourblind people to see the full range of colours! If you didn't know they existed I thought you should know, they tend to leave colourblind people speechless
Matt, what watch are you wearing in the video? Looks baller
Rolex Submariner 50th anniversary "Kermit"
+TheSmokingTire wish i could afford one!
+TheSmokingTire Matt, do you have any one takes scheduled with an E46 M3?
Great vid as always! This or F10 535i?
i really love the new Jags. they may still have a few flaws and i would definitely get an extended warranty but it's more charismatic than the german cars IMO.
R.I.P COD
lol
LMAO!
😂
R.I.P. your social life actually
What is your every day driver?
+Matt Sherman My Yamaha Zuma 125 Scooter
@TheSmokingTire I hope you get a chance to drive the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. It's a beautiful car!
Isn't jaguar bringing back inline 6
Is 3,770 to 3,880 lbs considered lightweight?
no...eventho todays car manages to handle this type of weight well.
+David Ha For it's size sure, it's lighter than an A6, 5 series, or e-class at least.
Oh yeah,
This car is huge dude. For that size it's quite light.
+David Ha Thanks for the answers!
yep i have the 2012 xf and it is a solid 4,000+ lbs. i had a pontiac base g8 and with my aftermarket rims it was 3900 lbs
Damn Matt, did you get enough sun?
+EminentLine This was a very long day. I shot 7 cars that day, and obviously did this one last because it was my press car. I had been out in the malibu sun for like 5 hours.
+TheSmokingTire matt color blind myself check out enchroma glasses you will thank me they help you to see the colors you normally cant.
Matt, which new sedan would you buy nowadays? I kinda miss the old days. Every manufacturer seems to be copying each other. The Vulva(I mean the Volvo) that you reviewed recently seems more engaging than this.
CTS-V is my favorite sedan on the market.
The last generation looks sooooo much better
So the R-Sport is like a BMW 3-series M Sport?
R-Sport is like BMW's M package, Audi's S-line, VW's R-line, etc.
douwebaekelandt Yeah, so this would be like a 335i M Sport
+Jue_boy The XE competes with the 3 series. The XF competes with the 5 series...
+Jue_boy
I think this car is bigger than the 3, I could be wrong. PErsonally for this kind of money I would get an ATS-V.
Jeff K I was just using the 3 series as an example. Maybe I should change it to a 535i M Sport
" A whole bunch of beeps and boops that real driver's don't need".... I LOLd :-D
Pretty much describes every modern car on sale.
seems like you can get a well spec'd M3 for the same price - it has more power and a better interior.... and a manual
BMW 3 series interiors are dog sh!t.
the M3? with the full leather?
+spinQubit a basic M3 (no full leather, no backup cam, base radio) is in the low 70's with the manual.
+TheSmokingTire A base model M3 in manual are going for right at 60k in my state.
+Raymond Newbill that's a very good deal. You should buy it.
I like this car and I like the F type but they should get rid of the supercharger and put a turbo on their V6.
Why would Jaguar make this sound this way if they also make the F-Type?
Just wait for the R
Being fairly scared of heights I wouldn't have the confidence to drive very hard at all on roads such as this one
could a got the ats v
F Sport, R Sport, V Sport. Cars are so sporty nowadays.
That sunglasses tan though
The interior doesn't look all that great. And only 340hp from a Supercharge V6? Nissan is making 333hp naturally aspirated and reliably.
+archinuk417 Money is in the suspension. That thing handles better than a BMW 3 series (not the M), which is saying something. Drive one and you'll see. Take it on some twisties
....
+archinuk417 Sure, but the Jaguar's engine is smaller and it makes 62 more lb-ft of torque at a lower RPM. Imaginably it's a pretty conservative tune in the Jaguar for both driveability and reliability.
And 340hp is what Audi's V6 makes at 3.0 supercharged, and BMW's turbo 3.0L also makes the same.
Acct1941 good luck tuning the v6 tuning the audi or BMW you'll hey 100 hp and torque
I'm color blind as well, between all colors. Definitely sucks trying to distinguish similar colored graphics
what do you do at intersection how do you know when to stop and go.
I'm guessing you just follow what other drivers do?
+f2b.....f20bEG I can still tell the difference between contrast colors, it's a problem when colors are similar (yellow & green, brown & red, blue & purple, ect ect). I can still see differences in shades ;)
+f2b.....f20bEG That's not how color blindness works. I can see every color in the spectrum, and I can tell when a light changes from red to green. All the players will appear to be wearing the same color jersey to me. Or, put another way, if you're in the woods and wearing camouflage, I cannot see you. Camo works on people like me.
you don't think that "beeps" and "boops" aren't important safety technological advancements?
+Death2Rum I think the beeps and boops are really good if you want to text and drive, or drive half asleep, or drive drunk. An attentive driver with an appropriate level of skill shouldn't need any of that shit.
I don't get it if u have 70k+ y don't u get a c450/340 which is better than this xf by any means
