Waqar in his prime was way more destructive than what Shoaib was in his prime
Generating pace becomes relatively easier with sidearm action while bowling. I was way more impressed by Waqar Younis' pace and swinging accuracy even with the proper overarm action.

At that time waqar, Wasim, and Shoaib were greatest fast bowlers. Shoaib was extremely fast. Accuracy of waqar and Wasim were just superb.
To think that between 1990 - 2005 would have been Pakistan era if not for the cheating scandal. Just imagine Pakistan with this line up would have been No.1 in both the Test Matches and the One Day Matches. Not Australia with Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.
Shoaib used to bowl 10 overs in a test match. First innings he would come in take a few wickets in each spell then get injured. Rest of the match Saqlain or Mushtaq ahmed would bowl all day covering for him.

In my mid 40s but I grew up watching this era when Pakistan boasted the worlds most deadliest pace bowling attack. Sure, South Africa had Alan Donald, Windies still had Ambrose and co, India had emerging pacers (but no way near the class of Pakistan's Waqar, Wasim and co) and then the rest. Pakistan's pacers of that era were unstoppable. And the best. No question about it. Wasim being head and shoulders the stand out pick of the bunch, at his absolute best that man was UNPLAYABLE.
This was the highest peak in Pakistan Cricket, all star players from top to bottom 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I think this Pakistani team had the best of bowling attacks in the world. Wasim and Waqar were actually competing against each other as to who would pick up highest number of wickets. Saqlain was showing the world "the doosra", which was very difficult bowl to pick during those days. Mushtaq Ahmed was silently competing with Shane Warne and Anil Kumble, since he knew he was quite dangerous against team like England and South Africa who were always uncomfortable against quality leg spin bowling. And then there was Shoab Akhtar joining forces, the tearaway fast bowler, who liked to challenge speed gun all the time. They were actually very much capable of decimating batting line ups, especially blowing away tailenders in a flash.
It was wonderful time we can say that if we batted around 180 in 50 overs, our bowlers can turn the game and gave hard time to any strong batting line of the world. But this era will not seen. Legends
